It wasn't bad, it was just disappointing, i felt like i was playing some weird mass effect mod. I enjoyed it enough to do 2 playthroughs, even if the first one got bugged on the last mission when fighting meredith and i couldn't finish the game. I doubt i will play it again since most of the dungeons are copy/pasted and no matter what choices you make the ending is the same.
The ending is always the same in every game.

OT: I like it. It has been out less than two weeks, the only people talking are the ones who hated it or just played it once so far.
There are exceptions, but i`m not only talking about the game's ending, but most of the quests, you can`t stop certain people from dying or leaving, no matter what you do
you can`t save Merill's village or stop anders from blowing up the chantry, mother always dies, brother/sister will always leave and hate you until the game ends, etc..
I just want to correct one thing:
Merrill's village doesn't always attack you. They didn't for me. I took responsibility for the Keeper's death and they let us take the walk of shame out of the camp.
OP: The game was rushed. It could have been better had they put development time into it.

Just started it and I kinda like it. I like how the standard attacks are more than the MMO "stance, attack, repeat" kind that DA:O had. Although as of now I have to say I liked the variety of skills/spells Origins provided. The dialogue wheel was a nice touch especially the fact that Hawke actually talks and is called by his name, but if what I heard is correct the stat-based options and Persuade/Intimidate options are gone which is disappointing. Anyway some good stuff, some not-so-good stuff. As I said I like it so far.

I like it so far.

Don't really get all the hate.

I'm actually liking it better than DAO which left me a little cold.

At least some of the changes strike me as progress and I like how they've made some effort with the art this time. DAO looked like Poser. The Qunari didn't look alien at all.

Storyline... see I have a hard time judging this because Planescape was my high water mark for CRPGs and Tolkein "tributes" bore me mindless. At least they tried with DAO with the social commentary stuff but they do it better in DAO even if it's a bit heavy handed. Tranquil Solution. Hrhr.
I am liking it better because you're somehow more "in" the gameworld. I also like how you're in the city and your friends all live there and have their own concerns.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, alot of the hate seems to be little more then change backlash, but then again they do have some valid points- reused environments, how little choice you actually have over the direction of the story and not being able to change companions armour all sticking out.

I really dont get the "its not an RPG" thing though- leveling system, abilities, inventory- all the technical aspects are there, and you can still roleplay a character you just cant choose exactly who it is- alot of the haters seem to want a digital D&D forgetting the fact that tabletop and video games RPG's are inherently different in there potential and limitations.

But I do have to say the number of bugs borders on the insulting.

I enjoyed every bit of it after two playthroughs.

I'm looking forward to my third one after I finish DA:O with Dlc's and expansion(I got Golems of Amgarrak and Witch hunt left) so looking forward to the outcomes in DA2.

Likely the worst Bioware game ever. Still better than almost every other game on the market. Played through it two times, will go for a third run after I play through Origins/Awakening again. I would like if the game had a longer dev cycle, it's a bit of a rush job. Still awesome, though...
I was thinking that calling Dragon Age 2 the worst Bioware game ever is like calling Cars the worst Pixar movie ever. Not their best, but better than anything else on the market.

It's good, just not as RPG-ey as the last one.
This is the same thing that happened to Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2, the only difference is that because Origins was much more RPG-ey than Mass Effect 1 was, people are bitching a lot more at the change in direction.
It is still a good game.
i agree with most of you what you said except the last sentence. the removed SO many of the RPG elements (and many of the extras that made DA:O so spectacular) that i cannot even be bothered to play through the game again.

the last 2-3 hours of the game are fun (if completely bat shit insane) and a few of the fights toward the end offered some challenge. but other than that, DA2 was a pale imitation of its predecessor.

Honestly, I love the game, in some ways better than the original. I don't deny that it has its faults (and certainly probably could have used another month or two of bug testing and development), but I like the fact that bioware took a chance and made something that wasn't the same old, cliche "assemble the forces of good to fight some ancient evil" plot line that is in most games these days. Don't get me wrong, I like that story, but it's cool to see a story that focuses more on drama, intrigue, and political struggle.

just finished it...

hot damn, it was great

sure, the game had it's faults (overly repeated environments, otherwise limited textures ie: darkspawn and female dwarves) but the first one wasn't without it's faults either, to the point where i don't see the hate for the second one

Halfway through playthrough 2, and it's a mixed bag.

I enjoyed the dialogue and characters enough to merit a second playthrough, the combat is also pretty fun once you crank the difficulty up. But the recycled enviornments are simply horrible, kirkwall get's boring pretty fast, and the copy pasted dungeons are instant immersion killers. A little more time in development building some different enviornment would have made the difference between a stale experience I had to slug through for the characters and dialogue, and a pretty great RPG.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit. It has its faults, but then the first one did as well and people still love DA:O. Combat is a step up from the first, but repetitive environments a step down.

The hate is mostly just from people who hate the changes Bioware made and love whining about it or anything. When DA:O came out some people where whining it was no Baldur's Gate and now with DA2 people are whining about it not being DA:O.

Yeah all the haters are getting their words in while those enjoying it are glued to their screens, the comments about it will balance out soonish.

I loved everything, but the story and crappy characters. Everything else is pretty good.

i like it, i can see why some of the origins fans wouldn't like it but on the whole i think it's good, the environment recycling annoys me a bit too but on the whole i'm on my 2nd playthrough and still enjoying it.

I thought it was a great game and I am at the start of my 3rd play through at the moment. However, one thing that has bugged me about an otherwise great game is some of the results from chat choices. My prime example of this is...

The confrontation with the Dalish hunters after leaving the cave you killed the keeper in. If you tell them that the keeper became a demon and it wasn't your fault, they attack you. However, if you just say what amounts to 'she is dead, deal with it' the elves stand down and you don't have to wipe them all out.

Overall however, it is a minor gripe to an otherwise brilliant game. I know some people complain it is dummed down compared to the last one but I personally love the changes, who liked the old crafting system anyway? and half the spells in DA:O were useless so why not get rid of them?
yes, why not just get rid of everything that the player has to do and make an interactive movie with Quicktime events and 3 choices that ultimately lead to the same conclutions. After all the combat is useless and any effort put into it on your part is just a hazzle amirite?
You miss my point. I was not saying that all the conversation options should reach the same conclusion, I was saying that in a few cases, the conclusions that are reached make no sense in context with the situation in my opinion.

I personally think that there should have been more than one outcome to every conversation unlike the way it is now. In most of the conversations it is entirely possible to skip through the entire conversation using the 'jackass' response and get the same result as if you were using the 'peaceful' one. This becomes very evident when you are on your second or third play through.
