I would but can't really as living in Asia most of the games (at least on console) that I buy have their boxes and manuals in Korean or Chinese with only the game itself being in English.

I usually read them while the game is installing, I find it quite useful to get a brief into to the game and it's mechanics early on.

Duh. What else are you going to do while your roommate drives you home from the store with your brand new game? That is, assuming, you have no car.

Yes I read them. I got to read something while I am using the bathroom before I'm playing a game.

Not really. I've become so used to playing videogames, I can figure the controls out fast enough.

Well yes, I do read them.
First, becouse I like the art that comes within them.
Second, becouse I like to know the slightest bit of the game before I hit start. So I don't feel completely lost about the controls even though most games today comes with a tutorial.
Third, but not least, becouse they smell so good!

I don't read them but I like to look through them still. Might have nice art or something.

I'll thumb through the manual when I just get a game, and will occasionally read deeper if I get bored.

I read them when I buy a new gam and am unable to play it til I get home.
I also use the manual when they change the controls completely from the previous games in the series (I'm looking at you Metal Gear Solid 4). They completely changed the cqc controls for that game, and it took me a while to learn them effectively. I still get owned in cqc multiplayer though, so I suck.

I know I should read manuals as often there is vital information which improves my game playing ability but most modern games are self explanatory and I hardly use the manual at all, even if I am stuck.

Maybe if the developers put more effort into their manuals, be a bit more creative and engaging then I'd read it as I'm waiting to get a chance to play the game

I sort of read them on general principle, then I loose them in the black hole that is my room. And then I find them years later with my Gamegear or an action figure that I really liked and thought one of my friends stole. I really don't trade in games either, even if playing them is like eating a spunk flavored lollipop. I just pass them on to friends and then suddenly they cut off all ties with me and start leaving flaming bags of poo on my doorstep.

I do.
I even save them when i trade/sell my games.
Just for the art.
Doesn't that hurt the trade-in value?
im not shure.
Very few of the used games i get have the manuals in them.
Iv sold games without the manual and gotten more than ones iv sold with the manuals.
It just depends on the popularity of the game.
Though, it could hurt the value a little.
You lucky git.
My local game shops won't let any one trade-in games if they don't have a manual. But weirdly, they allow ones without covers.
Hehehe.
Im suprised i havent taken the covers off my games as well.
Then again, strangely most of my games i love had awesome covers.

Only when they are worth reading. Most manuals these days are pretty much worthless. Some don't even match the actual game because they make changes to the game after the manual was made. I usually end up going to a website that has walk-throughs, hints, tips etc instead of reading the manuals for newer games when I get stuck in them.

I read them, but only if I know I will actually remember/use anything in it. I spent 20 minutes reading all my guild wars books before actually playing them and being swamped with pointless story, I forgot all the controls, so I wasted my time and I managed to pick up the basics in under 40 seconds.

I smell them.

Then I read them.

If you don't understand then you haven't been playing games for as long as I have ;).

That smell reminds me of my first happiest moments as a young gamer.

For some strange reason, I always found the game manuals to be good restroom reads. Then again, I've also been told that I'm a fairly strange person, so it kind of goes hand in hand that way.
