V-Sync only helps when you are playing top-tier games whose specs are designed for a more powerful PC. Most of the time there is no tearing that is noticeable.

I have no idea what the v-sync does, but I always "check" it because my machine can handle it.

I use it. Handy for Half Life 2 which tore badly on my last PC and tears badly on this one without V-sync.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Not usually since it limits my frame rate but occasionally I need it like with Rage, after the latest driver update I get horrible screen tearing unless I turn it on.

Nope, since it makes most games perform worse. The only game I ever used it in was Jedi Outcast, where it removed problems with me getting dizzy and nauseous after twenty minutes of playing. Something was wrong with that game's framerate I gues...

Try playing Mirror's Edge without it and doing speed turns at a high FPS.

If you can't for various reasons, trust me, IT'S NEEDED.

Screen tearing (along with jaggies) is the devil's work. Any and every action to prevent them must be taken.

So yeah, I use it.

My computer has always had a noticeable problem with screen tearing in any game, so I have to run V Sync all the time.

V Sync isn't one of the setting that makes things look better, it fixes a problem. If you can't tell the difference you don't need to have it on. If you need to have it on, you'll be able to easily see the problem.

I find for some games that if you can't run it at 60FPS it locks it in at 30 instead, maybe that's what has happened.
Could be... I just filed it under "great unsolved mysteries of the world" since no other game has ever had such an effect on me. Might have been some strange combination of various factors, it's really hard to say without any comparison. I just know VSync helped.
