We all know why the internet is the success it is. Being able to hide behind a mask of anomynity and say whatever we wish without worrying about saying it directly to a persons face, who wouldn't want that every now and again? But when you say something stupid on forums, does it really matter to you?

I'm sure most of us have said something on forums that wouldn't earn much respect. So i ask you, did you feel at all guilty? A few months back i was put on probation for a certain comment i said and before that i made myself out to be an idiot on another thread and, while i know it doesn't matter, i still feel guilty and regret it. So what about you?

Yeah, personal accountability and all that...

So I do try to avoid putting my foot in my mouth as well as I can. I think it's worked so far.

...I hope.

I don't have a problem with being stupid on forums, I don't feel guilty at all, but I try to refrain from being an asshole when it's unwarranted.

It does affect me, because some people at my school know my pseudonym, and will stop at nothing to get some dirt on me.

When other people are being stupid, it's just plain annoying. But the Moogly Googly Great thing is the height of hilarious.

I believe that the web can be better place if less people act stupid.

On the other hand there are people who take this weird, warped world serious and geniunely deserve to suffer my wrath of swearing and dickheadedness...

Nope, I'm an arts student.

Thus, crazy as bat guano. Therefore, I regret nothing because everything I say is pure genius.

It's unavoidable to fall into John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory every once and a while. And yes, I feel guilty when it happens. It's also good for all concerned to point out those people who seem to embody it out.

Everyone has their moments, even in face to face conversation, of being a dickhead, but the internet is worse because some people seem to think that it's their right to be that way all the time. I try to stay away from it as much as I can.

If I only say smart things the Escapist staff will eventually notice my genius, and ask me to join them. My first few reviews would be a little shakey, as I'm overcome by nerves and intimidation. The coach would take me aside and tell me the next game is my last chance, which also happens to be the state championship. After a montage of work-outs, I would step out onto that field a new man. But hold! The other team is made up of steroid poppers and jackasses that push old ladies over! And they are really good at video game reviewing! I'm amazing, reviewing the best games and insulting the gaming industry without alienating my readership! Despite my fantastic play, the game still comes down to one last chance. I choose "Zuma" as my review, the little game that everyone said could never make it and has a father dieing from some rare disease that can only be cured by...love. And it is in those moments, as my fingers graze across the keyboard in slow motion and Celine Dion sells out, that I know my moment has come. HE HITS THE REVIEW!!!! I win the state championships, learn how to fly, get a plethoric amount of women, and let Timmy know that last review was for him. All for you Timmy.

I better not say anything stupid.

My proudest moments of Internet use occur when I'm typing a post, and I realize that I have nothing to contribute that hasn't already been said. As painful as it is to not say my exact thoughts in my exact words, I do have the strength to not post stuff that doesn't need to be said.

Sometimes I will say something stupid or offensive things though. I deeply regret saying them.

I'm very rarely "serious" on forums, even this one, but that doesn't mean I behave like an idiot. It just means that I'm more likely to tell a joke than make a direct point.

In my defense, often my jokes contain some point or another.

Well.... sometimes, anyway.

But anyway, when I am straight-up serious, I tend to kill threads, so I try to avoid that.

I try to be serious but I can't always be. Then life would be to boring.
NOTE: long explanation coming up.

Many people at my school say I'm a nerd, and I am. But many of them don't know how smart I really am because I never act smart, I act like an idiot.

I really don't care what people say about me because I know what I am like.
If they say they're smarter than me- I'd like to see their IQ.
If they say I'm a nerd- Yes I am.
If they say I'm fat- Then they must be on the verge of planet size. (I'm actually very fit)

What I'm trying to say is that I can be an idiot to people's faces and have no regrets. So I would have no problem doing it on the internet if I felt like it.
