Does it piss you off when people text at a movie theater?

if you cannot go 90 minutes without sending a text message, there is either something so important going on you have no business being in a theater or your just retarded.
I, for the life of me, can't understand why you would pay 10 euro's for a ticket and 5 euro's for a soda if you have no intention of paying attention to the damn movie. Unless it's on a date in which case you won't be texting either.

It annoys me if I can see it, obviously. I just don't understand why you'd go to a cinema and purposely leave your phone in a mode that can alert you to incoming calls or texts. When I go to the cinema I put my phone on silent and turn off the vibrate; more often than not I put it in a bag I have with me. I paid my £8, I don't want to be disturbed at all.
I don't see how it could possibly annoy you in a movie, unless they text with a message tone, then the noise would be annoying. But it's common sense to have your phone on silent... always, IMO, and just take the time to hold that vibrate button or change the setting before you go into the cinema at least.
But texting in general? How is that annoying in any way? They're communicating with others that they're not with at that point in time. People talk to eachother. It's what they do. It's not like everyone you are with is required to give you 100% of their attention all the time.
In a movie someone texting is nigh on unnoticeable, and if it is noticeable, it's easily ignorable. The light is minor, and there is NO sound. People breathing is almost more irritating. And let's not even talk about eating popcorn or drinking through a straw. Heaven forbid!
If you can't ignore someone texting in a movie theatre with a movie playing, there's something wrong.
And if people texting in general annoys you, then by god, look away! Or bare them the what... 20 seconds it takes them to send the text? If you're talking to them, then don't tell them anything vital for the fraction of a minute of the time you're with them, and continue on after they've finished. And if you can't do any of that then... Well, honestly:

Alright, if someone contacts you who is in so much trouble they cannot wait a couple of hours for the movie to finish, get the fuck out of the theater and call them because obviously texting them is going to take too long. Tell me that takes more effort than is deemably overseeable and I'll give you a cookie. I miss none of the movie, I've made no noise, and I've continued [x] conversation and/or informed [y] person.
It's called multitasking. As with my last post, 100% attention is not a law. Nor is it even possible. And in an hour to three hour screening, I'm sure one can find the thirty seconds it takes to multitask and text. If you can't/don't care to, don't.
I don't feel obliged to do it, I just know that I can with an infintesimal amount of effort. So I do.
And for god's sake, if someone's annoying you during a movie, tell them. They'll doubtless stop or attempt to avoid repeating it. And if they do repeat it, and it's in reason to be punished (I.E. not texting, call up an usher to warn them/kick them out.
Don't just sit there and fume about it then go home to moan on The Escapist forums about something that you could have easily prevented or caused to cease.
Yes, I think it is extremely disrespectful, the clicking and tapping is bad enough, then the really loud vibration on 'silent mode', and then there's the light. There is nothing more annoying in a dark movie theatre than having a bright light going off every few minutes in the corner of your eye. It is distracting, and takes away from the experience. Also, the people who text usually start whispering to the people beside them about what the person on the other end said. /rant
It basically pisses me off when people do anything other than watching the movie in the movie theater, so yes.
I honestly don't really care what people do in theaters, as long as they don't make any noise or obstruct my view of the screen. People texting, usually, don't do this; so I don't have a problem with it.
Oh I can agree to that. It's easy enough to go to someone "Hey could you please stop X. I'm trying to watch the movie", but it would be nice if people didn't play with their phones in the first place. It's just a little common courtesy.Sanat said:

Admittedly someone getting out their phone blatantly, maybe commenting or laughing about whatever they've recieved, and then waving the phone around (relatively speaking) while they reply and basically being obnoxious about it can definitely be irritating.MasochisticAvenger said:
