I find that if I'm sitting there taking corners at 180mp/h or slashing and hacking the bad guys or just gaming period that jamming out to music at the same time really helps. So what I wanna know do you think so too, and if so what kind of music do you find is best to get those 1337 juices flowing? Or is it bad cause you get to into it and start headbanging like crazy (I end up doing that alot) or just wanna start dancing?

I like DnB and Hip Hop, and I have a hard time concentrating on what I'm doing. If I am trying to do anything on a video game that requires me to think, and I'm listening to Pendulum, I have a really hard time concentrating.

For some reason I am not the kind of person that can passively listen to music. If I am listening to music I am usually staring at the Windows Media Player window and letting the music wash over me. Flipside, if I am gaming, I like to listen to whatever it offers for sound effects and music for the same reason. Plus a game like Doom 3 or NWN 2 gets the playing quality slashed since they are very dependant on atmosphere.

For games where the talking does not matter like most combat games and basically all shooters, my game goes thru the roof when i hear any kind of rock. I listen to Rage against the machine while playing Call of duty and Halo, and I listen to slayer and the sort for basically everything else.

That depends on the situation-- like the others have said, if there is no important dialog to be heard then I do enjoy playing music. Crank up the metal for those Halo deathmatches, and maybe some nice trance to help me get through those tedious Mass Effect sidequests. I would enjoy listening to something during my weekly WoW raids, but then the guildies get pissy when you stop healing to do an epic air guitar solo.

Power Metal.
Slaughtering undead hordes with the speakers blaring out "Full Moon" (or possibly "Another stranger me") is strangely...helpful.
Exception goes out to games that really require sound input to be playable, generally if I ever play FPS games over the intrawebs, I need to hear grenades hit the ground or a double shotgun blast annihiliate someone to my left, not the chorus of "Over the hills".

But aside that, yes. I believe that if you find music that either puts you in the right mindset, or you just plain like, or both...You will find that music helps make gaming an even more blissful experience.

I agree with most points here, metal = goood = supermegakillathon... well perhaps not that much, but it does improve gameplay and reflexes as opposed to "... ... ... 'what?' BOOM".

I used to listen to music while playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 all of the time, but more recently the only game I've done that with was City of Heroes since music in MMOs either gets old very fast, or just isn't there. I never listen to music while paying shooters because I want to be able to hear gunshots, and know which direction they are coming from.

Depends. I enjoyed playing Q3 with metal, indus, and DnB. It really pumped the adreline up, adding a good deal of cinematic coolness.

Depends on the game, When I used to play Doom, (way back when) I couldn't play unless I was listening to White Zombie. The beat perfectly match the pace at which the player would run.

Actually, I find soft rock very good for playing action games. It calms you down, so you can make better decisions, and react quicker. It's not quite as strange as it might sound.

Depends on the game, I used to enjoy playing Wipeout while listening to some heavy metal music. On the other hand tearing down a long straight in Test Drive Unlimited, driving a Ferrari Enzo and listening to the classical music on the car's radio is also brilliant, much better than most other types of music.

It's strange but I find listening to heavy rock or even metal music while playing some FPS games, tends to get me into the game more.

Need some ideal music for FIFA now, though that isn't easy to find I suspect.

No, because I generally get annoyed when I realise it's halfway through the album and I wasn't paying attention.

it depends on what the game is, when its something like an online shooter or mmo, when the story and dialogue doesnt really matter, i love listening to music, metal in particular which gets me pumped.

if its something wehre there is a lot of dialogue, or where the story is the main point of the game. like say bioshock, i dont.

Think about it, people amped on metal are extremely trigger happy and aiming at the center of the body(usually) people listening to calmer music and not working with the added adrenaline and take time to aim can usually pick off said amped gamer with about 2 well placed shots
also the best song to listen to while using a sniper is "I can see for Miles" - The Who
