I am OK at gears of war, but put on some chasing cars by snow patrol and WHAM i ang a god no-scoping and chainsawing my way through entier teams. what? so snow patrol is some of the softest music out there i cand play gore filled bloddy gears of war? bah who care what you think.

ITS NOT WEIRD!
yeah it is
Actually, I find soft rock very good for playing action games. It calms you down, so you can make better decisions, and react quicker. It's not quite as strange as it might sound.
yeah it is
Think about it, people amped on metal are extremely trigger happy and aiming at the center of the body(usually) people listening to calmer music and not working with the added adrenaline and take time to aim can usually pick off said amped gamer with about 2 well placed shots
also the best song to listen to while using a sniper is "I can see for Miles" - The Who
just doing this so the quote boxes get insane. also hes got it not having that super jittery rush makes me a god a snyping. but i dont shoot everything that moves so i get shotguned alot
and the tower of quote rises!

alright so snipers have the advantage there, not that it makes much of a difference because the ampedup gorilla will be taken down soon enough...especially if they are running in circles...set paths are never a good defense against a sniper

I used to play FPS games with music all the time, but these days so many of them require you to get your gameplay cues sonically that I find I'm at a huge disadvantage if I have any music going. I suck enough at them as it is. I might put some neo-folk music on while I play an RPG though. Also I do like filling my MP3 playlist with the faster Ministry tracks in Grand Theft Auto. Perfect speeding at 200mph music.

Everyone in that quote pyramid should be banned from the forums for thread vandalism.

Only if im getting to tense. Ill start to overthink and get paranoid and then ill try to put om some tunes, like the relax beats from zoolander. Aside from that, tunes are just to bring a game to a great zenith and if I get to competitive like a dork it just distracts me.

I don't really like to change the original music from games that I'm playing, or stiffer the advantage having no music but the volume way up, that comes with playing games such as COD4 online, but I personally like to listern to Akira Yamamoto's stuff from silent hill when I'm drawing, which is pretty much the opposite from the original question I guess, listerning to game music while not gaming?!?

I have fond memories relating back to listening to a Keith Urban album whilst searching for fishing rods off the shore of Desolace in WoW.

As long as it's not too intrusive I think music helps. Blues or something...

Although, the only game where I play my own music is Warcraft 3 because the music of that game is complete bullshit. Especially compared to the StarCraft or Warcraft 2 music.

To answer the original question, yes, it does help me a lot. Having Iron Maiden blasting while playing Saint's Row really gives me an adrenaline rush.

HAHA look, now my name's on top!!!! YESSSSSS. I'M THE KING OF THE QUOTE TOWER, I'M THE KING OF THE QUOTE TOWER!!! bow down before me, lowly peasants, and i may think about sparing your lives (and let the gates of my fortress go undecorated with human heads... yeah right!) *thrusts*
I felt special, so i shall include my contribution to the quote PYRAMID, not TOWER. It's 7 year old stuff, you should all know better by now :(.

Anyway, as many a person has said before, I cant concentrate myself whilst playing and listening to DnB. As an example, some games such as CoD4 make sound effects which signals a shot was extremely close to you, my initial reaction to this is the same when im shoplifting at HMV and I leg it like crazy. But if say Granite (Pendulum fans know what i mean, sick track :)) is being played in my earole then I wont hear the sound, and ill get what normally happens when the security guard from HMV catches up to me :(.

BOTTOM LINE: No

I play almost all game online with the sound off and no music on (sometimes I play with the TV on in the background). If I'm playing a campaign where I need voices I'll keep the sound on but very low. For games like CS and CoD4 I play almost exclusively with the sound completely off or as low as they can be without being off. I find it more relaxing to have absolutely nothing pumping into my ears and in the past when I've tried to listen to music while playing I've come away with brain-meltingly bad headaches so I gave up.

I have ulterior motives, though, because I use sound like leg weights. If I'm on par with someone and they start giving me crap I'll pop in the headset and my gaming abilities subsequently skyrocket so I can put the punk down.
