Does the number of levels in WOW make you less likely to play it?

How long does it take you to level up in WoW? With all the expansions coming out and the max level going up, does the incredibly high level requirement tip you off? One of my friends who started playing WoW stopped because he found the numebr of levels to get too imposing. And this was before Wrath of the Lich King when it was just 70. Do you blame him?

If you can't give a yes or no answer (for the poll) please share you're thoughts. Putting "other" in makes me angry, because it doesn't really give you a straight up answer.

Shouldn't this be in offtopic?

Edit: When I posted this it was a completely different thread about something else.

I only ever reached Level 35 during all of my playtime. Every expansion decreases my probability of trying it ever again, especially now that word in the street is soon there will be no servers playable without all three of the expansions (Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm) installed on your computer. And I don't have to tell you that each subsequent expansion will only raise the cap further. And the rote that 'the game only truly begins once you reach the level cap' will still stand. So the game doesn't begin until 300+ hours after you started it. Awesome.

It's like considering Star Ocean better than any other RPG because you can level up to 255. Sure it takes you a million years of grinding, but hey! 255!

I don't mind grinding levels in WoW, I just quest it and get the variety they bring.

Why would raising a level cap be bad. Gives you a reason to still play. I don't really mind high level caps in regular rpg because you never really need it higher than a certain level to beat the game but mmos you can't really "beat" and your always competing against someone so the ability to get better helps you out and adds to the expierence.

A person who likes playing WoW won't mind the level cap increase. But if someone is "forcing" their way through the game, meaning tehy're struggling to have fun, then the cap might seem daunting.

Last time I looked, WoW was a game.

And I say no because---

Actually this guy summed it up. Levelling is just part of the game, if you're enjoying the game, rather than concentrating on levels, it shouldn't bother you.

No, I found leveling in WoW quite fun. What made me stop playing are the news about WoW cataclysm and a certain server crash.

Well not for your first character. I actually really enjoyed the leveling process the first time, exploring all the amazing areas, slowly becoming more powerful. Second time it wasn't as enjoyable, but they have introduced so many ways to make it faster and less of a chore that I would probably consider doing it a third time.

No, it didn't put me off. I only played the game for a few months before leaving, but I was sucked in immediately. Besides, once you get past some of the achingly slow phases in the original game and get to Outland, it all flies by.

I didn't mind the level cap for the few weeks I played. I just thought the game was boring.

Actually the game really doesn't "start" until you get to the top level, it's all about raiding and PVP when you get down to it.

Truthfully leveling up can be done in a few days, some have even turned it into a formula which is how people sell fully leveled up characters via gold sales sites and such, and how many people have entire stables of top level characters (me, I only have one, and I use him to raid).

You don't even touch my play time until you see how long I spent at each max level.

I *AM* getting bored though. The only thing that really appeals to me anymore is raiding. Truthfully, I'm half expecting to retire come Cataclysm and switch over to Star Wars.

Right now my online gaming is divided between both CO and WoW.

Leveling in WoW is a much faster and gentler experience than many other MMOs out there. I can pretty casually level up a character to the cap in under a week in-game time. IF I actually used Heirlooms and Consumables and blah blah I could get to 80 in under 4 days playtime.

Just because there's a lot of levels to go through doesn't mean it's difficult or even all that time consuming.

Woah this was a completely different topic back when I posted that, I think the OP's just recycled the thread instead of creating a new one.

I sold my old wow account before wotlk knowing that having to level again would put me off playing the game anymore but really it's only a few weeks real time to get to max level especially with all the tweaks blizzard make to speed up leveling. And the new content is drawing me back towards wow.

Whatever street you are listening too is full of crap every sever is playable with vanilla wow or expansions installed and will continue that way with cataclysm.

If you have to grind to level in wow now you are doing something badly wrong especially at that level, you have the whole of the Wotlk expamnsion content to level you. As I mentioned I stopped playing before wotlk but with BC by the time I reached max level I still had 3 whole zones of quests left.

Meh, it's not that bad. It's cheaper than buying a new game every month and gives me more content to enjoy, so I enjoy the level cap.

It actually takes less time to level up to the level cap in WoW then it did when the game was first launched. Blizzard is constantly making the trek from 1-70 much, much easier. Mounts at lower levels, even flying mounts at lower levels. About triple the xp gained from mobs and quests from when the game started...double that if you use the recruit a friend feature. Most classes gained way overpowered moves for their levels. Gear for lower levels has been made progressively better. Not to mention AH gear for twinking out your lower level is drastically cheaper then what it used to be. Chances are if you can't level up to the cap in WoW nowadays mmo's in general probably aren't your thing because it really couldn't be any easier unless they started you off at a higher level with gear 10 levels above what you should have...oh wait Death Knights...nvm.

Soooo theres really nothing to complain about...
