I'm following a Bachelor study for biomedical sciences. So wrong biology stuff tends to get to me. When it's obviously fake it bothers me less than when the director tried to use pseudoscience to explain it.
Do NOT watch Red Tails, or The Red Baron. Egads, they're awful.shootthebandit said:
Let us not forget the severe mistreatment of edges (block with the flat or you won't have an edge), the supreme lacking in the footwork department, the fact armor means nothing to hollywood, how they NEVER counter cut (they prefer to debate with their weapons), how stupid some of the characters fight (In the final fight in Rob Roy, the bad guy could have finished the fight more times than I had fingers), the noise they make when drawn in reality is NOT the *schiiiiiiing* that EVERYTHING with a blade makes in movies, longer swords are extremely difficult to draw from your back, they make up a LOT of weapons that wouldn't work in reality, katanas are not the be all end all sword and in reality are a terrible choice if the enemy has metal armor, pressing against each other's blades to have a chat is ridiculous and a simple turning of the blade and you can hit the fool (or grab him and come around his blade, grappling was as big of a part of swordfighting as actual sword work), and how certain wounds don't seem to bother named characters (an arrow to the shoulder blade would prevent you from living, let alone drawing a strong warbow unless you are the Rock).Wyes said:The bad swordplay however really irks me, especially because it's really easy to do right! I can count on a single hand how many good/remotely realistic swordfights I've seen in a movie on one hand and still have at least 2 fingers left over. It's annoying because there are 2 mistakes that are almost universal; fighting far too close, and launching attacks that are only ever going to hit the person's sword rather than the person's person.
Superhero films don't really get me in the 'bad science' department, since it's obvious that they aren't going to pay head to any sort of real science from the start. Anyway, Abomination has healing and shit.snagli said:"What? He barely lost any blood, he couldn't have bled out"
"No, the blood doesn't flow like that when you chop someones arm off"
"WHAT? There is no liver there, you can't have been shot in it!"
"Oh come on, all of your tendons were severed, you can't walk, dumbass"
That sort of stuff I scream in my head all the time. There's also the Walkers from The Walking Dead, still being able to move their body even though their spine is severed. (I'm not saying zombies are impossible, though).
Also, this:

See his spine breaking through the skin on his back? He is incredibly vulnerable thanks to that, but it doesn't really seem to bother him.
Also some basic science stuff, but mostly the anatomical sillyness in films.
The Patriot was a great movie, until you learn history and see just how BAD they butchered it.ReadyAmyFire said:Studying Aerospace, and have handled firearms before, so any errors involving guns and aircraft. Also films like the Patriot and Braveheart and their deliberate disregard for history.
The excuse is always "it's entertainment, not a documentary". Well in that case make it about the Blargon race fighting the Snusnu's on planet Nixtor. Do not shit all over history and past accomplishments with your lazy storytelling.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! NO! BAD! That is simply terrible...TallanKhan said:"reverse the polarity of the neutron flow" anybody?
I'm with you. I'll let it slide if the film or programme has a knowing sense of stupidity and is presented as entertainment. But if it's trying to be serious then it better get serious about its research and execution.thaluikhain said:Only if the film is trying to take itself seriously...but that happens a lot.
