Well there is the standard no hats rule, as well as the no snowball fights and other things. But last year at one of those everyone sits in the auditorium and listen to the principal meetings, they brought up fights in school and said you could defend yourself during a fight, and by defend yourself I mean try and run away. That's all I can really think of as stupid rules.

in middle school, we weren't allowed to wear hoodies, but a teacher decided to be awesome and send everyone wearing a shirt with a pocket to the office until the principle let up.

Work: No, they're all reasonable.

School: Yes, all of them.
Well, not all of them, but a lot of them are rediculous. Even if I have no lessons until 10:30am I still have to go in at 8:45am.

my school had this crazy policy no video games on their computers.. and they used synchroneyes to watch us and police this policy... so we brought in our own router and broke off from their network

lan party in computer class aww yeah
brought in your own router? how'd you manage that?

oddly enough, we had a LAN party in one of my technology classes (we played quake 2), and the teacher was in on it! hell, he directed us to the download site.

I got threatened with a disciplinary at work for wearing shorts, by the woman who makes the rules up and her reason was "those are the rules".

Ironically she was wearing a skirt at the time put apparently that's allowed.

Well Thompson vs the dept. of work and pensions might have something to say about gender bias dress codes, especially as I handed my notice in friday so the more shit I can cause the more fun these last two months will be :D

[edit]

By the way I have a non-customer facing role, there's even a layer of management so I don't have to deal with internal clients, just sit in my cube and bat emails around so my appearance need not matter.

well my school only has two exits one in the front and one round the back. they alway's lock the back door despite the buses parking round the back and so we have to walk around the school this might not sound like much but its a big school. this works out as a huge walk as to get to the back you have to walk around the pitch and then up a hill. its just a really incovient system when the back door is there waiting to be used.

We're required to pledge servitude to an icon in a weird kinda ritual, non-denominational idolatry. It's written up in the contract that I'd lose my job if I actually redistributed the copyrighted graphic.

It's actually down to that or your job

[small] Also, no food and drink in certain areas, no shoes [/small]

No hats, which to me is retarded considering I wear more 'dressy' hats, such as Fedoras'.

My old school has gone completely insane regarding its absence policy. Unless you'd like your absence counted as 'unmarked' (which, if you get three, means you'll be going to Saturday school as well as losing your shot at a driving license for a year if you don't have it already), you'll have to submit a note at least the day before saying that you'll be missing from school, informing them you won't be there, otherwise you can't pick up any homework/assignments from the days you missed.

This'd be fine if it were just for dentist appointments etc., but even if you're sick (which I'm sure we all plan a day ahead for, right?) you have to submit a note.

Also, miss more than 10 of the same class (including sick leave/doctor's appointments) and you're at risk for not getting credit for the class.

No public displays of affection.
I'm probably going to be told off in school tomorrow for hugging two female friends...

Mine was an all boys school which was pretty lame. Had these terrible Black and Grey uniforms, i really hated those. Hair was above the ears and off the collar. Had a no cellphone policy and all. It was one of those schools that tries to produce "Men of Outstanding Character" and would force their morals and beliefs down your throat. Glad to be out of there.

As for my job, No cellphones, and I have to wear a nametag at all times. I really hate people addressing me by name when they dont know me. Its rather rude

No nerf blasters anywhere near the campus. -.-
Same here. Me and my friends (mostly me) have thought about having a huge Nerf war before, but apparantly you can get expelled for that. Though my middle school was fine with it. I even had a group of them in the science class because that is what my project was about.

Although on reflection it is probally to reduce fire alarms and the smell of burnt teast but come on.

No hats
No backpacks in glass. I mean, you could be storing a bomb or weapon in yours! If someone really wanted to shoot up the school, not being able to bring their backpacks to class isn't going to stop them.

No cellphones/iPods/electronic devices. I can understand being required to have your cellphone turned off or have the ring set to silent or vibrate (although I've seen situations where the teachers would hear the phone vibrate and, despite how quiet and non-interruptive it is, still take it away). And you aren't even allowed to use your phone or mp3 player during lunch break.

No holes in pants, even if the holes are below your knees. I mean, I can understand prohibiting holes that are higher up on your pants, like when they reveal your underwear, but any hole, anywhere? I've seen people get sent to the office for a change of clothes and punished for holes below their knees. All those kinds of holes are revealing is the same part of your leg that would be visible when wearing shorts.

No "open lunches." We used to be able to leave for lunch and eat somewhere else, or go outside and get some fresh air, but now we can't do any of that. Apparently when they let us do that, we were getting out of hand and were trashing up the parking lot. Sure, people do that, but it was never bad enough to warrant outright banning open lunch, and it's obvious that the real reason was that the school wanted to keep people in the school so they would buy lunch there and the school would make more money. I would be more understanding of this if the food in my school wasn't terrible.

My school's absence policy is similar, although luckily we don't have to submit a note in advance and don't lose a shot at getting a driver's license. Are they even legally allowed to that? How are they going to stop you from taking driver's education outside of the school?

otherwise you can't pick up any homework/assignments from the days you missed.
And I absolutely fucking hate these kinds of rules. It's taking priority of punishment over education, which is bullshit. Sure, punish people for your silly rules, but the last thing you want to do is make it more difficult for the student to catch back up for the classes he/she missed.

Work rules aren't that bad. I don't bother wearing the uniform half the time, I rarely follow correct procedure for anything and always have my mp3 in when I'm not supposed to. My shift regularly takes 3 hour breaks (8 hour shift) which we get paid for and most nights we leave early. All this because there's no management around at night. And it is good.

As for school, well, there were no mad rules as such. There were two I routinely violated. The first being "take it seriously" ...mm yeah it's mandatory british schooling, I was hardly gonna get worked up about anything. The second being "keep the shagging to a minimum". What can I say? I'm a fucky guy.
