He continued: "I will say that we experiment with things, but for us we are never interested in making a multiplayer mode you could just play in some other game. Because, A) that's not creatively interesting and B), financially, you're wasting your time. They're going to go play Call of Duty [http://www.amazon.com/Halo-Reach-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA20M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1282345447&sr=8-1]."
Never have truer words been said.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I really just want a solid single player game, I'm sick of every game feeling as if they are required by law to include a multiplayer portion, it takes time away from the single player game itself. They're going to be playing the "real" multiplayer games anyway, so most of the time other multiplayer games fail to come close to their success.

Don't worry Bioshock Infinite 2 done by another studio will have multiplayer. :p

But seriously, this is awesome, I'm not into multiplayer and found Bioshock to be awesome so I'm very happy that they are not going to be wasting time with something I won't even bother playing. =)

Multiplayer in a game requires a big time investment if you're interested in getting good at it and unlocking all the features - not too dissimilar to MMOGs. I personally wont play much of an online multiplayer unless I enjoy it enough to play it extensively. Sure, I played Bioshock 2 online for a few hours, but it wasn't good enough to pull me away from Halo 3 or Team Fortress 2.

The industry needs more people like Levine.

I wish more devs would begin to get this notion.

While yes death match might be fun for a little while, its not really an absolute requirement for games.

Perhaps some new concepts for multiplayer? Might be interesting to see them think outside of the box on this.

OOH perhaps you could allow a multiplayer territorys where you as a big daddy protect big sisters and defend them against other big daddys as they generate cash for you. The objective is to own the most territory to earn the most money. Call it Pimp Daddys!

I may actually get Infinite now.

Hopefully they make the gameplay more interesting than the original. If they do its a buy for me. Because honestly I loved the atmosphere and story of the first game.

Enjoy ;3

OT: Was it another studio that made the multiplayer for Bioshock 2?
But it is a good thing that developers see that not everything has to have multiplayer to be good

Alright, I guess it's good that they're focusing on the single player.

But if the were to do "something like L4D" that could be really cool.

I'm playing Bioshock 2 multiplayer at the moment and it's not bad. It has a (sort of) story for one thing - entirely unnecessary but it adds some flavour. The mechanics are also very different to things like CoD - it definitely took some getting used to.

On the other hand, did any play through Bioshock and think "good, but could have done with multiplayer"? Didn't think so. If you make a really good single player game you don't need multiplayer at all.

You know, no matter how old that joke has gotten at this point, I just can't stop laughing at it. Probably beacuse Jim Carrey did such a good job with it:

Anyway, I am really glad to hear this news. There is absolutely no reason that every game should have a multiplayer component. While there is nothing wrong with multiplayer games, they shouldn't be forcefully added into games that are primarily a singleplayer experience. That is just a waste of money and time that would have been better spent on making the singleplayer experience better. BioShock is a game that really doesn't need multiplayer and I am glad to see that they won't bother with it in Infinite.

Also, I loved the Sessler's Soapbox [http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/693184/sesslers-soapbox-keep-it-single-stupid.html] on this very subject.

I'm really glad to hear this. i hope they keep mutiplayer out of Infinite. It kind of worked in II, but on pc it was buggy as all hell and barely anyone played.
The customization ws decent, but it lacked alot.

well, this may be a bit late, yeah, but I feel like I have to say it

in my humble opinion (real humble, since nobody gives a true shit about it =P) I think they should change the name, idk, just call it Bioshock: Infinity, because when I read Bioshock Infinite, I think of some sort of cheat code, like infinite biological shocks =P

anyways, back on topic, I would like to see a multiplayer on this game, since I do love bioshock 2's multiplayer, as laggy, hard to find matches, and rather unbalanced, I love it, because I think it has style, and the characters are pure gold, especially Buck with his business talk

I like that they think the game can stand on its own merits, and doesn't need multiplayer to infalte its value.

How can they have new plasmids? The Sea slug hasn't been discovered yet in the time frame.
...

Anyone else bothered a bit?
If they had left the origin a mystery, maybe it could make sense.

EDIT: Also, Ken Levine seems like a boss.
Ooooo deep. It could use Plasmids with other ways. Birds? Human Genetics? Interesting.

Finally, a developer wanting to innovate a bit in Multiplayer Modes

I loved the original Bioshock despite it's debilitating lack of multiplayer. I didn't care for Bioshock 2...despite the fact that it has multiplayer...I saw the trailer for Infinite and can't wait to see more! It looks really freaking cool X3

This is very good news... I'm looking forward to this and multiplayer was a failed experiment with BioShock and this means they will focus on the single player which is what BioShock fans want.

I'm crying I am so happy to hear that Infinite probably won't have multiplayer. When you ask people what makes Bioshock great, they don't say the Multiplayer. Why? Because there was no multiplayer. Multiplayer was tacked on because the studio saw that every other game had it so they had to have it to.

Don't get me wrong, the MP was good, but no necessary. The only reason I played it at all was because I wanted all the achievements. After that I haven't touched it. I'm just not a multiplayer type person, I generally hate people, so why oh why would I want to play online with them?

Honestly, I wish the time on development and the space on the disc was used to expand the single player, you know the thing that made Bioshock great.
