Ever since I switched to Firefox, and lately Chrome, I never open windows. Just new tabs.

Also, I live in Texas.
*snickers* This.

Seriously though, unless it's snowing outside I keep my windows open 18 hours a day. I'm on a busy street so they stay closed overnight, darn early morning traffic always wakes me up if I don't. I use a big, old, and more than slightly dusty fan for air circulation.

Air circulation is the key for my room, I live in the attic.

I use electric fans because I'm cool. :p
And I live in Louisiana and therefore I'm frightened of opening the windows this time of year.
And, uh, I carry one of those old-timey fan things around the house alot and end up pretending to be a southern belle.

I'm currently living in Germany, where air conditioning beyond the walls of supermarkets is an alien concept. All I have is a fan that blows dust around... and a fridge with cold, cold water!

That said, opening the window is, in my opinion (formed from growing up in a part of Canada where we sometimes hit 42°C in the summer with 100% humidity almost every day), usually stupid - at least during the day. It lets all the hot, muggy air in, not to mention flies and other nasties.

I always leave it open at night, though, that helps a lot. More important than opening the windows is keeping the light from seeping in - heavy curtains or blinds are good here, as is sticking to the side of the house/apartment the sun currently isn't cooking (for me, this means the study is off-limits in the morning and kitchen/bedroom are off limits in the afternoon).

My house doesn't have an A/C. My mum and dad's room does, but it's self-contained. The rest of us do just have to open our windows and pray that the 30 degree heat outside is actually cooler than the arid atmosphere within the house.

But I do have this problem in the car. Actually, the opposite problem. My dad's adamant that we use the A/C in hot weather, but he doesn't seem to realise that it's shit and doesn't work. When I tell him so, he still won't have the windows open. Bleh, warm car trips.

I'm like that with lights. I turn on a light and everyones like open the curtain. I'm like what about glare. Problem solved.

Air conditioning goes on once this ***** hits 70F/21C. I would open the window but the neighbors are fucking loud outdoor types and it opens onto their driveway.

I don't know about you but when people tell me to open a window instead of using my a/c (and yes I do pay my own energy bill so don't even think about it) my first immediate thought is to throw them into a pit of horny koalas on steroids who have just finished watching fox news. People are always asking me why do I turn on the a/c when its not even that hot (80F is when I start turning it on) and I tell them "because I can". I might just be a loose cannon but does anyone else get really pissed when you're sweatin your ass off and you wanna turn the a/c on but people tell you to open a window instead?
Why are the koalas horny? That would be awkward, just sitting there in a pit with giant koalas and they're all having sex...

If I were you, I'd compromise and have the fan on. You remind me of this guy I knew who always drove his car 1km to work because he could. Harden up. =P Just kidding, I shouldn't be scornful of those who are more sensitive to heat or cold... actually, it sounds like your natural biological cooling system is functioning properly, so you shouldn't be fretting about this heat. It sounds like you just feel like indulging in a luxury.

I'd be slightly hypocritical calling you out on having a non-eco-friendly wasteful indulgence, and most of the people who tell you off probably are.

since my computer is a massive monolith of a gaming computer it can get fairly toasty in my room. if its devils nutbag hot outside heck yes im turning the ac on. But if its a comfortable mid 60s to 80 degrees outside or a bit breezy out i love to crack my windows and smell the fresh air. that is unless the chicken farm half a mile from my house has recently been cleaned and the 3mile radius around it smells like a skunk that ingested sulfur its whole life while rolling in the chicken poo has been running around the neighborhood well yea im gonna shut my windows

If there isn't any cool air outside, it's kinda pointless to open a window. Though it is my only option, we're not to big on a/c in non workspace environments here in Europe.

Fortunately where I live, nights are quite cool (60's) even though the day's are easily 80's or 90's, so I open windows at night and close them in the morning.
By the time I'm opening windows again, it's usually in the 70's or 80's inside (90's even in my computer/console room), but using fans and being adjusted to the heat make sweating non-existent or minimal.

I don't have much against air conditioners personally, they do make it much more comfortable, but they are a luxury that can easily be cut to dramatically reduce pollutants. I used to use them all the time, but then I moved to a new house which doesn't fit the air conditioners I had. Rather than go through the hassle of buying new ones and putting them in (with them being so noisy and heavy), I just deal with it. It's not actually that bad once you get used to it.

What's up with the title? It suggests there is a reason to do that rather than just your own personal preference. I could change it to "Don't use your a/c, open a window," and it would be just as valid (more so actually since not using a/c saves money and pollution).

I much prefer a cool summer breeze to the air you get out of an ac. But saying that in the north of England a scorching day is the sort of day that most places would wrap up for.

Well, seeing that I don't have AC, I always open a window. Well I have AC in my car, but you really have to unless you want to sweat your balls off of course
