Tales Of Symphonia is a massive and utterly fantastic RPG. It happened to come on two disks, had about nine different characters for your party for you to mix and/or match at your pleasure, a variety of outfits ranging from "What a nice suit" to "Dressed in the dark", and a fantastic combat system, and as such, happens to get my recomendation. Also try the Viewtiful Joe series, which was a harder-than-especially-tough-diamond of a side-scrolling-beat-em-up that also happened to be a good laugh in places too... And that's on easy. Well, in places. The difficulty, the funny is wherever it wants to be.
This summed up my thoughts beautifully.

Only two things I can add our Metroid Prime 2 and Paper Mario:Thousand Year Door

Tales of Symphonia. Favorite game ever. I got over 400 hours of quality enjoyment out of it, and to this day, still play it and the Wii sequel.

Metal arms, you play as a robot and can shoot stuff, and it has nice split screen 4 player multiplayer.

and of course Timesplitters, in which you can select the character you wish to play as in multiplayer, it's a shame though you can't play as a bassist.

Mario Golf is pretty cool, and amazingly addictive.
Metroid Prime is certainly worth a look.
Beyond Good and Evil, as mentioned above, is well worth a look, charming little game.

Let's see, off the top of my head:
-Sanity's Requiem
-Metroid Prime
-Super Mario Sunshine (the first Nintendo console to be released without a first party/Mario game) and it's a little under-rated IMO

My recommendations have already been said, but its worth mentioning them again.

Viewtiful Joe
Eternal Darkness (This is a must buy)
Pikmin (2nd one is supposedly better as the 1st had a time limit)
Metal Arms (Great fun for multiplayer. The only game that could replace Halo for me and my mates)

As I'm sure a lot of people before me have said Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker
Also. Sonic Adventure 2, I imagine you don't have a DreamCast, so it would have to be SA2Battle

Resident Evil 2002 remake is one of the best games on GC.
As is Tales of Symphonia.
Wind Waker is very fun and, if you can get your hands on it, Twilight Princess. The latter is super rare due to the fact that nintendo royally fucked up the Wii version by inverting the entire game-word just to make link right-handed. I worked at gamestation and it's said that only one copy of GC twilight princess came in pre-owned at £40 and it was snapped up immediately. You ever see it, BUY IT!

Read the title, folks.
In a stunning turn of events, I'm actually going to specify what kind of game I'm looking for, as apposed to vaguely saying "Tell me a good game" with no information beforehand telling you the sort of thing I want! Shock and awe!
I'm already getting Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario Sunshine, and am looking for a cheapish sort of game. Platformers and RPGs tend to interest me and I enjoy a bit of multiplayer now and again, whether it be co-op or versus. Let's get reccomendin'!
X-men Legends (esp. the first one) for the co-op, I believe you're SOL for the platformers, but in general I'd recommend F-Zero GX and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (the best Star Wars game ever) if you can get your hands on them.

Metroid prime 2: Echoes, probably the best game for GC that fits most, if not, all of your criteria. And you could probably get it for under a tenner, or you could go through the trouble of buying a wii then buying the prime trilogy and play one of the best trilogies in gaming.
