Dota 2's automated mute system - Valve's most prominent stuff up

This is the one time I'm going to praise LoL.

You know the tribunal system? Where real people judge reports? That shit WORKS bro.

Valve meanwhile, turn up, and like the pack of engineers that they are, think that machines can do the job better.

So what does this mean? It means that any of your reports, for any reason on another player are handled by a program rather than a person. There's no context, there's no reasoning involved. Anyone can be reported for anything.

However, what this ends up meaning is that with my 15 dota 2 invites, I can have 16 dota accounts, all with 3 reports per week on someone.

With no-one actually checking things, I can get someone demoted to LPQ for a long long time or muted for a week.

Who thought this was a good idea?

No but seriously, I saw this, and realised it's far too prevalent.

They should just scrap the whole system all together.

Automated report systems are abused far too easily and people will report for anything, even if it isn't a reportable offence.

People will report people for just being bad at the game.

Not intentionally bad, just not very good yet. It's probably the most hostile type of game out there.

Sounds bad. In SMITE I'm informed all reports go moderated, but then that's a smaller game and who knows. Still, the fact there is an "intentional feeding" section of the report form infuriates me. I've seen that maybe twice out of 350 games, and you get all sorts of threats like that. "Oh look, you're 0/2 down, reported". Then again, I've had that threat put to me a number of times and I've yet to have a suspension of any kind.

A much bigger problem in SMITE is leavers. Again, that's probably the smaller number of players.

I liked Crystal Maiden though. Stun, slow, hilarious ult and something to help alleviate the Anti-Fun. Pretty fun.

What do they do to abandoners exactly? In SMITE, I'm not entirely sure of the rules, but leaving a game gets you an automatic suspension (not a massive one, like 30 mins or something). Then if people report you and you've typed something in chat like "cba with this I'm out" before going afk then there might be longer sentences. There still seems to be a lot of leavers. I don't know any SMITE player who doesn't think leavers are among the biggest issues.

Gotta say though, the BM doesn't seem so bad. Yeah you see some BM, but so long as it's casual queue you don't see anything like as bad as these other MOBAs.

I still don't believe all those claims that the system doesn't work. Pretty much every complaint thread I've seen about reporting made it very clear or at the very least implied how the poster deserved the punishment. On the other hand, I have yet to be muted or put into LP (or anyone I personally know, for that matter), even after getting reported by several groups of friends (which I assume because of them announcing it in chat). So from my perspective the report system seems to be working fine so far.

I played CM almost exclusively, I once got this like slug guy who could switch between like a run really fast but lose tankiness mode. Slaa something.

Who the hell plays against bots anyway? Real manly men go right into matchmaking and use their vast LoL knowledge to notice how sluggish everything feels. I play too much LoL to invest time into a game that is like LoL but less fun (Flame Shield Activate)

I dislike the voices of any of the characters i've seen, endless ice puns and an annoyingly cheerful voice on CM for example. I don't even find any of the characters interesting at all actually, I have no idea why. That's the ultimate turnoff for me personally. The sluggish gameplay only gives me more of a reason to not play it.

To be clear I have nothing against people who play DOTA and I really WANTED to like the game but I find everything so... Boring? Lacklustre? Yeah. Something like that

Seriously though, no emotes really detracts from the game when you have entire teams spamming /dance at the start of the game in comparison. You just have to.. Sit there. Doing nothing at the tower... Seems so empty. Riot thinks up some really good ones as well. Diana has this bizzare sense of humour that nobody seems to get except her, TF has some witty lines, Ezreal dances to Haruhi etc etc.

I'm so glad I've never run into this problem. I have around 90 games played, and I have yet to get a communication ban or being put into low priority queue. Maybe it's because I only play single draft, which from my understanding tends to be less hostile than other modes, or maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm glad this system hasn't fucked me over.

But yeah, this system is fucking bullshit. It seems way more likely to encourage the kind of abhorrent behavior that is so prevalent in these kinds of games than to do anything to fix it. I really hope they change it soon.
