Does anyone have any links that might actually indicate this is a thing and how this system actually works or is this just a bunch of assumptions based on what little people know? Because Valve isn't always up front with how things work in their games, and no one's offered any corroboration to back up there opinions.

I only ask because this wouldn't be the first time I've seen gamers flip out about something they didn't really understand and try to stir up a shit storm where there really isn't one.

Thank you for your insult, one thing that I can confirm about the Escapist is that forum reports do get looked at by regular people.

I'm so glad I've never run into this problem. I have around 90 games played, and I have yet to get a communication ban or being put into low priority queue. Maybe it's because I only play single draft, which from my understanding tends to be less hostile than other modes, or maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm glad this system hasn't fucked me over.

But yeah, this system is fucking bullshit. It seems way more likely to encourage the kind of abhorrent behavior that is so prevalent in these kinds of games than to do anything to fix it. I really hope they change it soon.

SD and RD are the ways to go. AP isn't a good idea past the 80 win threshold, or "ever" in 5stacks.

Plus, I just find SD more fun than AP. I like being forced to try out different heroes, instead of just picking a few that I know I'm good at. It also means I'm not constantly playing with or against the same few heroes.

Although occasionally you get some epic disasters when playing SD, like a game I just played where somebody was trying Meepo for the first time. It did not go well for us. Thankfully, that stuff doesn't seem to happen too often.

I'll experiment for a while, then have a run of bad luck and go back to lich for some games =D. There's only so much I can rely on other people to support and put up with them when they inevitably fuck up.

Seriously, after playing lich for enough games, when you see someone playing him badly, it's enough to make you cry.

It is really stupid. LPQ worked and it was good enough just let the ragers play with each other. Muting doesn't help anyone, especially since you can already mute them anyway. IDK who thought that was a good idea.

Dota's hero roles are a lot less rigid than League. Randoming is nowhere near as bad as for your team, there's generally something you can do. Heroes aren't delegated into 1 or 2 roles, and the places you can go on the map aren't as limited, it's not always 2-1-2 or 1-1-2 with jungler. Hell, there are some heroes that can jungle and lane at the same time. Hooray for multiple hero selection! Randoming doesn't really hurt your team unless it's a competitive scrim.

And trust me, everyone gets used to the turn and attack animations. I hated them at first, but now every time I play League with friends, it feels really weird. Also, I believe emotes and taunts are actually being added. There have been files found for them. The tutorial also isn't finished, which will probably help with all the unintuitive bullshit. Even though it doesn't seem like it most of the time, the game is in beta, and not yet complete. It's unintuitive as hell, but the tutorial has barely been released.

[sub][sub]I don't get why you're calling valve whores when their business model is 10x less greedy though...[/sub][/sub]

I just wish the queue times weren't as long. In Australia, SD queues take me about 10 minutes. I've just started queuing for both SD and AP. I'll occasionally get an SD game without waiting for ages, but I can't be bothered waiting that long for every game.

yeah that's the problem. I get wait times of 2 mins for AP and 5+ for RDSD

What continually confuses me is when I get a game in the Australian server, and none of the rest of my team can speak english.

It's because Australian/English queues are quicker, so they don't bother with their own language. It's a pain in the ass, though I hear it doesn't happen as much on AU as it does on the EU/US servers.

The very first day they added the mute, back when you got completely muted, ie you couldn't use the chat wheel and you couldn't chat in lobbies as well, I got muted for something or other. I think a bunch of guys came to gank me early on and I juked them and proceeded to tell them how terrible they were, and they got pissed and reported me for it.

When playing with friends but not in a 5 stack, we usually go All Pick and just random except for one guy who always plays Lifestealer or QoP (to be fair, he is damn good as them). Sometimes I'm too lazy to play a hero I may or may not be good as and pick Invoker or Rubick or something. I have also been playing a ton of Elder Titan lately, he is so much fun. When we have a 5 stack we go Captain's Mode and when I solo queue I just go for All Random because the teams that get drafted there are lulzy.

I am going to have to agree with this "muted if you get enough voice/text reports" thing. I mean, there still needs to be a penalty for it but make it harder to abuse. Maybe they should increase the the amount of reports before the ban so a single team can't abuse the system. This game is still technically beta so they are allowed a few mistakes here and there. Overall, no system is perfect and people will always find a way to abuse it. Look at LoL's tribunal. There are some players who go on there to report people exclusively so that they have a higher chance in getting the BP rewards for making the "right" choice. At least that's how it was when I played it a year or so ago.

A bit above 1100 dota games, around 200 of lol and maybe 500 of hon here.

Personally I totally disagree with you OP. In my experience:

a) I have reported several DotA players, several reasons, and it's always nice to see bans when logging.

b) The only player I know/play with that has been on low priority/muted is a friend with rage quit issues and totally deserves it.

c) I would assume they have a filter to distinguish reports from people in the game from guys finding and reporting a random player, thus I am almost sure what you are saying is, pardon my french, pulled out of your ass. However it would be interesting to do an experiment, what do you say about mass reporting me (I go by Free Gold!! in DotA 2) and we can see what happens. Not sure if this is discussed in your link, the page gives me an error due not being logged in to those forums.

d) Really dislike the tribunal, it reminds me of: And it makes me never talk in LoL. In DotA sometimes I will tell the teammates when they are making a mistake, why and what better alternatives are, calling them retards in the process; in LoL I don't even say "GG, easy" due how totally bonkers and unpredictable the tribunal standards seem to be.

Personally I think both systems are crap, DotA should get more people involved in the report process and LoL shouldn't have crowdsourced it, especially because I am sure almost always it's the top 5% anal retentive players the one that volunteers for such a task. That said I like the DotA community a little better, maybe it's only because my ELO is quite higher there.

Edit: I admit to be biased also because I find DotA also way more enjoyable than LoL at all but the lowest levels, at which LoL really shines.

Why can't you explain the better alternatives without calling people retards?

in LoL I don't even say "GG, easy" due how totally bonkers and unpredictable the tribunal standards seem to be.
First of all, in an online game, there's only one thing worse than a sore loser - a sore winner. And "GG, easy" is a sore winner trademark, but it's hardly what gets your account sanctioned.

The tribunal standards are not unpredictable or bonkers any more or less than the reporting standards are in the first place. But, I've been an avid tribunal goer for a while (while I still played the game that is), taking my time, not just hitting "punish"; to get through my 15 daily cases would take me on average an hour and a half, as I went through chat logs and all. I have reviewed hundreds of cases. You know how many people I pardoned? Seven. Everyone else, everyone else deserved their reports, because they were being offensive - and I mean "I hope your mother dies of cancer, then I'll rape her" level of offensive, not "GG easy" level of offensive.

You don't get put on the tribunal for saying "GG, easy" once. You have to be reported several times, by several players for your case to even go on the tribunal.

Sorry OP, I can't really understand your situation because I've never run foul of this problem.

I've reported two people since I started.
A bane elemental who kept sleeping me to steal farm or to ensure his own escape from ganks, and...
A verbally abusive Pugna player who insisted on joining my Phantom Lancer on radiant bot when a Lion had already called it, and fed intentionally when we both refused to move.

I got "thank you, action taken" on both of them, but despite being a prolific player who often argues very aggressively with trolls and complainers, I've never been muted or LPQ'd.

Surely there must be some human oversight going on.

Yeah, it has a lot of potential for abuse. Praising League of Legends for the tribunal though? People can't be trusted in either system, that much has been blatantly obvious for quite some time.
Next thing you'll see is people praising Riot for the 100% original idea of the commendation system, or the completely original and innovative chat wheel.

with only little less than one hundred DOTA games on my name I never ran afoul with this system, abusive dickblisters were reported and penalised and I myself have never punished because of any reports, probably because I dont swear at people or leave the game early.
