Wow. And I'd been debating just sticking a $20 in an envelope and mailing it to the man because Grim Fandango was that awesome and I wasn't able to buy it properly. Now I know what to do with it!

I wonder if I'll be able to FRAPS the thing so I can Let's Play it...

In 33 more days he will have enough money to buy the world, and become supreme evil overlord.

The irony in this is that there was no way in hell they were going to get a publisher to green light this project and, if it keeps going like this, the final product could be even bigger than they hoped; which would (you would hope) lead to more sales; which will lead to publishers getting inferior developers to create half assed knock offs of a game they could have had their brand on; which will make the original look even more awesome; which will lead to a renaissance in game design that involves more than killing everything that moves; which will lead to a society who value intelligence over image and conflict; which will lead to piece on earth and an end to war.

I may have got a bit ahead of myself there.

This kind of thing makes me happy. I'd love to see it mean more developers break free of the shackles of the traditional publishing model but I do wonder just who else could fund a project this way.

Yum yum! When I get home tonight, I'm pledging £30 because the world needs this game! I can't even begin to say how much I love games like Day of the Tentacle, or how important they were to me when I was young and unemployed.

To be perfectly honest ... I believe the hype around Psychonauts 2, Notch and the whole thing there had some slight impact on this.
Not that I doubt Schafer's ability to get people funding this game ... But they got the money overnight ... literally. That said, Let's see where their efforts to use the remaining funds for localization and the such lead them.

Someone donated 10000 to get the lunch with Tim Schafer. Some gamers have a whole lot of cash on their hands it seems...

Pledge $150,000 or more:
Tim Schafer (that?s me) will give last four remaining Triangle Boxed Day of the Tentacles, in original shrink-wrap.? (Limit of 1) (Holy crap, what am I thinking? I only have four of those!)
*SMACK*

Sorry...that was the sound of my jaw hitting the ground.

I do wonder what it would take to get Grim Fandango reprinted. I can't help but think content may be partially to blame, awesome as it is.

Got no intrest in such games, but damn the thing is growing fast. Will any money, apart from the 400k, go to the games budget as well, or to cookies I wonder?
They will go to Tim Schafer and Brad Muir's monkey love shelter. Just like the profits from Trenched/Iron Brigade.

After all, Trenched is a game about love.

That article states that disc based games can cost up to 30 million dollars to create.

Sure, if you're going to license the entire Motley Crue album catalog and get Ozzy to be a voice actor...

But no. The article also says that even a simple XBL game can cost $3 million to make.

Who the fuck are they kidding.
Well, a car CAN cost 8 million Dollars.

I wish I could support the cause, but I'm a bit too young to be donating. :(

Ans I'm sure my parents would looove to fund a silly little video game.

*Sigh* Guess I'll just have to help by buying Stacking or Costume Quest.

Today, coincidentally enough, is payday...

Both for me.... AND FOR TIM! TAKE MY MONEY!

TAKE IT!

EDIT: Sorry. Mr. Schafer. We're not on a first name basis.

*sigh* Yet.

You can run up quite a budget funding a studio that isn't based in your mother's basement.
