I'm suprised jermey kyle hasnt jumped on the bashing gamers band wagon tbh. i have never seen this phil guy and dont really want to. On The subject of adiction i have to say that its not adiction its obession because if you stop thinking about it your fine. to me if a game gets me "addicited" then its a good game and has very strong immersion. as long as u take a brea every now and then and dont let it ruin your social and working life then all is good.
I would imagine most of the degenerates Jeremy Kyle brings on his show would not have the mental capacity to play video games.

The media.. Calling video games evil?... Why? When the fuck did this start? I hope this doesn't become a trend!

...Seriously, drop it, its a feeble minded older generation trying desperately to pin societies problems on a definitive answer and missing the point entirely. They are doing what their parents did to them with Rock and Roll, and Television.

Let me tell you societies problems...

The problem with human society is... HUMANS! Humans are by nature crazy hairless apes and, like most animals, have not gotten over that pesky "Violence is a correct problem solving technique" instinct.

Although I usually like Dr. Phil, I disagree with him. It's true, you can get addicted to games, but that happens to those who doesn't handle it good. I dislike WoW cause of it's milking money out of people. Don't take me wrong, people can do whatever they want with their money, I just think that I could spend my money in better ways, and that there are better games online that don't demand a monthly fee.

Also, "addicted" means you can't stop and get crazy if you don't get what you're addicted to. I've never heard of someone like that. I just hear about people get whiny when they're mom tells them to go to bed. That's just being generally stupid and lazy.

Jeremy deals with completly different problems also the British public/media don't really deal with gamer issues in the same negative way as America does or blame rock stars i.e Marilyn manson for causing people to be violent.
Hell France even gave a Knighthood to Peter Molyneux

I would suggest that someone who spends their time playing WoW has far better critical thinking skills and quite possibly better social skills than someone else who spends the same length of time listening to/reading Dr. Phil.

Gaming is no more harmful than any foray into art and entertainment. Sometimes, with particular personalities, the effect may be harmful. For most, the only problem is we could be doing something more productive. However, since I'm American, I can just point to the more than 50 year tradition of wasting my leisure time as evidence that it's perfectly okay.

When i was still in school i use to play Runescape about 12 hours a day when i got home.I would class that as an addiction but i wouldant say it is worse than Crack. I was still eating right and doing enough walking that i should be.

I dont see how people like Dr Phill can sit there and rant about Gameing being worse than crack cuase it is not. If i buy Runescape membershit i still have money left over for food and drink. Would a Crack addict still have Money left over after they bought there daily Crack no i didant think so.

I love playing video games, enough so that my social life dwindles at times, but nothing unhealthy. I didn't even own a console for about 6 years until I bought a 360 in Feb. The number of nights I have stayed up until 5am to play a game is far less than the number of nights I have gone out with my friends and had a wonderful time.

Addiction and compulsion are so very different. The latter is easy to break free of with even the tiniest amount of willpower, which everyone on this thread, probably this entire forum, has.
This. Addiction =/= compulsion. While it can be difficult to stop a compulsive behavior (far harder than you imagine, actually), it's just not the same thing as a chemical dependence, which is itself not the same thing as addiction (you can be dependent on a drug without being willing to steal for it/think about it all day/etc.). I read scientific journals for a living (I'm an abstractor), and pop "psychology" drives me insane because they're throwing out terms that aren't used the way they're using them.

Moreover, they're acting like this is some new epidemic. I remember in the early-mid '80s that the same thing was said about pen-and-paper RPGs, and then it was said about Atari and arcade games. Funny, my generation managed to grow up just fine despite the D&D and the Pac Man.

Dr. Phil is moronic. He think he knows us better than we know ourselves. I personally want to play World Of Warcraft. For Oblivion I have over 100 hours and over 1,000 saves.

I would rather be addicted to videogames than anything else.

actually I'm irish... just to clarify :)

Slate means to intensely criticise something in an aggresive manner, for example...

many PS3 fans like to slate halo

Funny, I didn't know that the word wasn't used over the water!
It might be.
I honestly don't keep up with slang anymore. Actually, that's not true - I never kept up with slang.
Slang is for lazy people who can't read a dictionary. Ain't that fo' rizzle? I only keep up with the neccesities.

But, in all due seriousness, WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT Dr. Phil AND HIS SHIT SHOW? He is a hypocrite and unknowledgeable, just like any other ass who pretends to know everything.
