The way I see it most anime try to be true depictions of the work their based on, at least until they catch up to the original work, then everything become a shit storm.
Western Products seem to be more design by committee and "ya it's good but it needs more _ for western a TV/Movie audience"; even though that is proven wrong constantly...
The biggest current western F*up for me is The Walking Dead, the show is horrible, the comic isn't great but at least it is original. The show is a generic piece of trash constantly trying play out some drama the producers feel was under whelming in the comic, only to fail horribly.
I think Carl shooting Shane in the beginning is far more interesting.
That said there are some exceptions, and Adult Swim has most of the current ones.

Eh, I didn't have too much interest in the project from the beginning, though it looks OK.
I totally agree with the main beef about it though, I had the same one when I first saw the trailer.
It's occurred to me that the only reason western animation can't be respected as an adult medium; apart from comedies but there are a crapton of those so they don't count for this point; is because people aren't willing to give it a chance to be respected as an adult medium. For some reason there seems to be this cultural bias that has everyone believe only anime can do "mature animation", which I think is total bullshit. Anime is just a style of animation and, theoretically it's no more valid a style than any western styles when it comes to telling a story.
But, I digress. Movie looks decent; I'll probably catch it when it lands on Netflix. Interview inspired minor bout of animation centric nerd rage.

Cause Under the Red hood just like the rest of the DCAU titles, are Bruce Timms backed personal pet project, and since Timm has garnered DC and WB, with critical acclaim and cash up the wazooo, they let him free reign of Budget concerns and the whole reconstructed WB animation arm.TheIronRuler said:

In short, Bioware has nowhere near the resources and connections to make a project with UTRH animation and quality, so they opted for the cheaper aesteticm hiring an Eastern Studio that will do pretty good with Rock bottom prices.

It isn't an anti western so much as a mind set that thinks anything foreign is more interesting and exhotic. In Japan and China people love western things for no reason too. They'll wear tee-shirts with slogans they can't read, just like people in the US get chinese characters tatooed on them.Soviet Heavy said:

Even darker properties try to appeal to kids on the side. Where anime is more for ... manchildren. If you could list all the Western animation that was made without any care for children in mind, it would be a pretty short list. Whereas with anime, it would be a lot longer. A lot of the titles on that list would still be ass, but they WOULD be less geared at children.
So I don't think that's an unfair claim.
I probably won't watch this because -- I don't like really anime, anymore. Also it looks sort of bad. That said, I think that this video has the people involved talking in a pretty mature and chill manner with a few unfortunate remarks. I think all the nerd kneejerk is a bit unneccessary.

Western animatino is only seen as for children because assholes like Bioware don't want to give it a chance. They work off of some predetermined bias that works off of the ASSUMPTION that western animation is only for children.
They diss western animation for not going places, but its their own damn fault because people aren't willing to let it go anywhere.
