Dragon Age 2 Lead Writer Blasts Homophobic Fan

To be quite honest I think everyone but women got screwed over in the appeal department. All the girls I know who have played DA2 loved the characters they romanced (usually Anders or Fenris) where most guys who played the game (that I know), myself included, felt the female romance options were either boring/shallow (Isabella) or cliched (Merrill = Liara/Liana/Mission/etc.).

Not directing this to you specifically Fappy, but what about the Aveline romance arc? I might try it out in my 2nd play through. I'm just wondering how that might have played out.

Um, actually it does. Its called marketing dumb-ass. Wow, why the hell is he still writing? If you made a game whose buyers (or gamers) are five, well you would make it for children. Same deal. In general, majority rules. Some people are so stupid.

I was under the impression that she could not be romanced to begin with. You can flirt, but she rejects you ultimately.

How the hell is the guy "homophobic"? That's just unnecessarily inflammatory, and from what I've read of the posts he's at least trying to give out his opinion in a coherent, inoffensive manner. It's not like he's bashing gays, or going "Dude, so friggin' gay! Let me bone more chicks!"

I don't agree with what he's saying, don't get me wrong, it's just that I find this article pretty hostile to someone who really was expressing a simple opinion in a non-derogatory manner. Some of his opinions could be seen as bigoted, but I just don't see it. Could someone explain to me how this comes off as homophobic? I really do want to know, because I just don't see it.

Yeesh, I thought most gamers were already past the homosexuality thing. But then again, I haven't seen a homosexual in a video game that wasn't annoying since this guy:

But then again, Bioware was aiming for COD's audience, so that's maybe why some guy complained.

That, and I think one of the writers saying that Twilight was an example of a good romance should set some more alarms. Also, the aformentioned writer's opinion on Merrill:

You can't make all characters bisexual. Anders I did not look and see, hey maybe this guy is Bi, I always thought he was straight. Now Fenren was totally bi, he looked bi and felt really girly so I was cool when he hit on me (i turned him down tho). I liked DA:O where some guys were bi and some were straight.

Maybe that should teach you not to judge people based on appearances.

Since when did 'girly' mean bi, and what about Fenris is 'girly' other than his slender appearance (he's an elf).

My boyfriend is 6'2 and built accordingly. He's still bi.

I don't care if the male characters hit on my character.

First of all, I'm comfortable with my sexuality. So I'll say certain guys are crazy attractive (Gideon from the Scott Pilgrim movie). I can say it with confidence and I don't care who hears it because I'm 100% straight and anyone who thinks otherwise... well.. Why the hell would I care what other people think of me? I can't stand guys who live in fear that someone might question their manliness or straightness because that would make them pussies. Since when does someone's opinion of you make you anything you don't want to be? These people annoy me to no end. Grow the hell up. It's the year 2011. Not 1920. Living in fear of other people's opinions makes you a coward, not a "man".

Secondly, every one of my friends are female and half of them are into guy on guy stuff (yaoi) so I've been exposed to this for years.

Ive said this before and say it again. You know how everytime a girl gets on a game, or even in real life when she tries to hang out with you and talk about something you both like, you just say "oh fuck, im have to try to sleep with her!"
So she cant even do anything with most guys for fear of being hit on? Yeah, welcome to their world. And ONE guy hit on you that youre not attracted to flirted with you. How horrible.
Makes Dragon Age more realistic, if you ask me.

OT: I like the fact that DA2 tries to have a large variety of choices regarding romance, though I do see why some people might feel bothered by having the other male characters hitting on them so much. However, if you remember the majority of Oghren's dialogues with Sigrund, in DA:A (flame shield is UP), you know its not really new character 'psychology' for Bioware. Just a bit different

Also the Flirting honestly blind sided me with anders.. I always play the well meaning person and boom we kiss.. I was wide eyed shocked I didn't pick any hearts.... wel maybe one or two... to see if I could gain friendship faster)) you know what I did? I skipped the video.... honestly not hard... and after I hot down anders to share my new mansion bed neither was he ( heh)

what's the guy's deal? no idea.... plus I love Merrill.. and sadly being a straight male gamer if a plush doll of her would go on sale I'd probably buy it..
