As a pansexual 3rd gendered person with male genitalia, I hit on fucking EVERYONE> But I don't do it solely in an attempt to get laid. My straight male friends, gay female friends, and all non-interested gay male and straight female friends know I do it as a mix of a running joke, and to make them feel good.

Wait, does the game not let you tell dudes hitting on you to fuck off? Because I'd be irked if it didn't.
if you shoot them down you gain rivalry points.... still trying to understand saying no to a man in a fur lion cloth would make him your rival.... but hey maybe they got a different kind of dictonary?

You people(the ones going omg guys hitting on my character) do know there's a way to shut them down right? Ignore or you know pick the option with the broken heart.

I did a playthrough, and the only character who hit on my (male) Hawke was Isabela* I could tell Anders was metro, but we knew that from Awakenings.

Just don't click the heart options and you'll never have to worry about your delicate masculinity being threatened.

*hey did anyone else walk in on Anders when he's giving Brann (?) treatment for an "itch" and then Anders warns him that you "never know where those pirates have docked"?

I know, he wasn't full blown gay, just acting like any tough guy with gender role issues would in that situation.

Still, he's the closest thing to a "normal" homosexual in an RPG, due to his sexuality not being his defining factor, and the RPG being the only place where that shit matters. That, and he was a badass ************ who was a serious bro and didn't get on my nerves.

And besides, considering all the bromance in that game, half of the male cast was pretty much gay, anyways.

You forgot the part where he beats the negative part of people's pysche's to death with a chair.
Damn, not only that, I forgot about him punching his homosexuality in the face:

My thoughts in no particular order:

My male companions never made the first move; then again maybe that's because I did the first chance I got.

Vael is full on straight. If you roll Hawke as a healing ***** you can have any combination of Aveline, Merill Vael, and Verric without guys hitting on you.

I'm a pretty much straight guy, and both Anders and Fenris seem fairly attractive.

Should straight women and homosexual males have an option that turns off females flirting with you?

You are always going to offend someone. I made a comment on here about how white people use St. Patrick's Day as an excuse to drink. I'm Caucasian, and I like to rip on white people. Well some douche turned it upsdie down and said "Are you implying that people who are not white do not need an excuse to drink?" No, I was implying that uptight honkies like to have an excuse to drink. I make a point to never type anything directly offensive to minorities. So I take pleasure in making fun of white people. And STILL some asshole finds a way to turn it on its ass and make me look racist. Had the game had a "No Homo" button, it would seem offensive. People who claim Dragon Age 2 isn't looking out for the straight male gamer need to learn to just enjoy life. I hope to God the guy who responded to me about white people drinking was joking.

if you don't want people thinking your interested then don't use the heart option.

Your not forced into it at all.

There would also have to be an option for no heterosexual relationships if you would ever consider this.

I'm a straight male with a girlfriend and I romanced Anders...

I totally regret it. He is so freaking whiny in DA2.

LIKE OH MY GOD ANDERS WE KNOW YOU'RE A MAGE AND THE TEMPLARS ARE MEAN, I'M TRYING TO GET IN YOUR PANTS, SHUT UP!

My problem isn't with the possibility of homosexual relationships, but that I couldn't turn down Anders without getting rivalry points. Is adding "I just like you as a friend" too much to ask? Not that I wasn't flattered.

I find it funny how people call this guy a homophobe just because of his opinion.Of course Bioware has to stay politically correct in all this and its great that they give this options for everyone to enjoy. However it could have been presented better in the DA2.Its seem its always the homosexuals that get the knee jerk reactions to post like this.Sure I may disagree with your lifestyle but I don't hate you for it.Its your choice and I can respect that as long as you respect my choice to be straight.
Did you read the posts?

Dave Gaider's first post was amazing, and I'm going to expand one of the points therein. Namely, the one about privilege.

As non-heterosexuals (or women, or asexuals, or anyone else who isn't a completely normative straight white male) we have no choice but to be okay with your heterosexuality. Society is predicated on the assumption that everyone is hetero by default, and you are constantly catered to in almost everything, not least within the games industry. If we genuinely weren't okay with your heterosexuality we wouldn't be able to play games, heck, we wouldn't be able to walk outside.

The guy is being heterocentric, if not outright homophobic, in that he clearly considers (unconsciously, to be fair) that to be an entirely normal state of affairs that us fags should just be used to by now. His complaint is not that he has not been catered to, but that he should be the target audience and should be catered to more than anyone else because of it.

It's just standard heterosexual self-entitlement really. A lot of you (by no means all, thankfully, as this thread is demonstrating) are so wrapped up in your privilege that you consider a bias to be fair, and any move towards inclusion to be threatening or unfair on you.

And it's okay, I disagree with your lifestyle too.
You forgot that the complaint was actually a bit racist too with its "only exotic options of women." I am still shaking my head at that. My wife and I found and still find Isabella to be very lovely. Her skin tone never occurred to me as a negative but apparently it did to the original OP.

Why is that so strange? Anders is a whiny guy, of course he's not going to like your character rejecting him. Would you see a person as more friendly when they turn down your advances?

Because there were absolutely no romantic choices deigned to pander to the straight male demographic within Dragon Age 2.

heh I see what you did there
The original OP covered that... It was his politely worded "only exotic options" or bluntly put, no darkies or elves rule. *sigh*

Yeah, it was annoying that the only way to turn Anders down was to say that you were uncomfortable because of teh ghey. I had a similar problem with Zevran, actually. I chose an option that I thought would be "I'm totally fine with you being gay, but I'm not interested in you in that way", but it ended up being "What are these confusing feelings in my pants area, we should look into this later in your tent."

i wanna see this guy get hit on by a homosexual male in real life, i expect spontaneous combustion.

and you know what, the devs have every right to make the game this way, i am currently playing the game through as a straight male, who knows, next time i may play through as a female lesbian, or a bisexual male who attemps to go with everyone and is an ass, the point is its MY choice.

The only problem i have with the homosexual side of Bioware's game is that they tend to bash it over your head with over the top characters.

Look at Zeveran, his constant moves toward the main character and his mannerisms are stereotypical at best. I don't know where Bioware is getting their "gay personality" but not every gay man is RuPaul, nor throwing himself at every attractive man they see. They are normal people like you and me, and act the same as us. There is a difference between adding a realistic gay character and pandering to over the top stereotypes.

I only played Dragon age: origins, Mass effect 1-2, and the first part of KOTOR. I don't know the problem with Dragon Age 2's character, but that is just my view from the few games I played completely. Gay characters are okay, but putting in over the top characters and claim it's "mature writing" is kinda insulting.
I'm with you on the lack of subtly gay characters but I am a fan of Zevran. He had the carefree attitude of a person who knows they are dead. He lives and loves freely because he hasn't had anything of depth. If you romance him or befriend him, you can learn that a lot of his sexual advances are a salve for a past sin. He has a surprising amount of depth so it is rather sad how many people seem to hate him.

When I played a female elven mage with intent to bang all three characters options for her, I was playing her as somebody just left the Circle and kinda just going with the flow to enjoy herself. She had a fling with Leliana, tried to be with Alistair until he had to be king and couldn't be with her, finally going to Zevran for consolement and finding a true love. He was actually hard to romance and easy to sleep with. It was compelling and fulfilling. I feel that people need to give Isabella and Zevran more of a chance.

However, I do get what you're saying about the lack of subtle gay characters, I just had to get that off my chest. XD

Guy sounds like a male chauvinistic pig when he states that female characters have to be "secondary, male-type support characters" and the instant they become "strong females", they become queerbait.
