I found out that if you choose the humourous/charming response instead of the diplomatic one in that situation, you skip the whole 2 flirts 1 rivalry thing. After that, he never hit on my male Hawke what so ever.Gildan Bladeborn said:Depending on your initial dialog choices with Anders, when playing as a male Hawke merely being nice to him and picking the diplomatic options will present you with conversation branch where you literally have only a choice between two "flirt with" responses and one "end relationship" choice, which makes you sound like a jerk and nets you rivalry points. It would have been better if there had been some kinder way to suggest that you're not into dudes, but the way they designed it now there isn't any way to play a male Hawke and be consistently nice to Anders without flirting back - obviously if you've picked snarky responses prior to that junction you wouldn't find yourself in that situation, but if I see a little heart icon and deliberately don't click on it, the last thing I'm expecting is a wheel suddenly full of hearts and nothing else.Sober Thal said:The only thing I noticed was that elf in the Brothel. The actual companions didn't seem to be pushy at all... unless provoked (the big heart next to the dialog was kinda a give away!) : P
Suggesting that Bioware was neglecting the straight male demographic though is rather silly, because they quite clearly haven't.
Keep playing then, because it comes up - her dialog definitely changes depending on your gender.Mikeyfell said:Merrill didn't mention that Hawke was a woman once (so far anyway)

Whew! Man that sure is HARD to do.
Lol first playthrough i flirted with everyone, had a 1 night stand with Isabella end ended up with Anders as a relation because he was the first that gave the option.reddfawks said:It's not even a case of homo or bisexuality.
I call it being Hawkesexual. Nobody, NOBODY can resist the Champion! =P
I spit my drink when Anders made the ferelden circle remark in act 3 in the hanged man.Molverine said:I jumped back a bit when Anders was like "Yeah it was so lonely and cold in the circle so me and Karl just fucked like rabbits".
Not that i was expecting any different, and not that i mind, but i have never met a gay person in real life that within two minutes of meeting me tells me about the time he made sweet love with "Jerry in broom closet". REALISM!![]()
Surely if Hawke has romance plots with every character regardless of gender that's MORE writing.Ewyx said:However, it would be nice if the characters in the game were either bi straight or gay. Everyone being bisexual is just lazy writing more than anything else.
I've never met a gay person with a spirit of Justice halfway possessing them, either. lolMolverine said:I jumped back a bit when Anders was like "Yeah it was so lonely and cold in the circle so me and Karl just fucked like rabbits".

Ah yes, the Commander Shepard approach to NPC attraction levels.RobCoxxy said:How dare Bioware accept homosexuality?
As a straight male, I demand Garrett Hawke to be swimming in poon-tang, not occassionally flirted with by other men! tsk.
Are you seriously suggesting that going after someone simply because of who they're attracted to, without any other sort of valid reason, should be equal to someone getting in an argument with someone and falling into a physical altercation? That defending a person's right to BE is favoritism? Really?RowdyRodimus said:Now, can we say the same thing to gay people that they shouldn't get special treatment or rules based on their lifestyle? Take Hate Crime Laws for example, if someone beats someone up because they are gay the person gets a harsher sentence than if it was because they just didn't like the person. Neither act should be worse than the other, but it is giving gay people more value as a person in a way.
How about necessity? Poverty. Being strung out on drugs or alcohol. There are a thousand (exaggeration, obviously) completely non-personal reasons for crime.RowdyRodimus said:Besides, I've never heard of a crime against a person that was done out of anything but hate.
Gonna be honest, I've been having a crappy day and these past few comments have been giving me some chuckles, thanks *thumbs up*Acrisius said:Wow, I delivered a hero to the world. Haha I'd actually forgotten about the duke when I was reading this. But joking aside I suppose I could sort of understand if flirting bothered some people. Maybe they should just have it so flirting happens if *you* push for it? Seems like it would solve all of the problems in my opinion but, *shruggs*.The Gentleman said:Because apparently "straight, male gamers" are not pandered to enough in games?

I think it's supposed to be obvious that Anders is not quite right in the head. If you went so far out of your way to help him, maybe he just needed to vent about the whole having to kill his first boyfriend thing? I don't know, it didn't seem THAT far from realistic considering how messed up he is.
Especially concerning the other, far less-realistic portions of the game.
