It's not even a case of homo or bisexuality.

I call it being Hawkesexual. Nobody, NOBODY can resist the Champion! =P

Ya know, after reading the original argument and getting past the "only exotic women option" part of his complaint, I am reminded of a line from Blazing Saddles.

"Where all the white women at!?" It really seems to be the basis of his problem.

I jumped back a bit when Anders was like "Yeah it was so lonely and cold in the circle so me and Karl just fucked like rabbits".

Not that i was expecting any different, and not that i mind, but i have never met a gay person in real life that within two minutes of meeting me tells me about the time he made sweet love with "Jerry in broom closet". REALISM! :p

Also, did anyone else notice the wierd shadows on Isabella (360 version, mostly in the Hanged Man) that make it look like she holds the guiness world record for most armpit hair?

The only thing I noticed was that elf in the Brothel. The actual companions didn't seem to be pushy at all... unless provoked (the big heart next to the dialog was kinda a give away!) : P
Depending on your initial dialog choices with Anders, when playing as a male Hawke merely being nice to him and picking the diplomatic options will present you with conversation branch where you literally have only a choice between two "flirt with" responses and one "end relationship" choice, which makes you sound like a jerk and nets you rivalry points. It would have been better if there had been some kinder way to suggest that you're not into dudes, but the way they designed it now there isn't any way to play a male Hawke and be consistently nice to Anders without flirting back - obviously if you've picked snarky responses prior to that junction you wouldn't find yourself in that situation, but if I see a little heart icon and deliberately don't click on it, the last thing I'm expecting is a wheel suddenly full of hearts and nothing else.

Suggesting that Bioware was neglecting the straight male demographic though is rather silly, because they quite clearly haven't.

Merrill didn't mention that Hawke was a woman once (so far anyway)
Keep playing then, because it comes up - her dialog definitely changes depending on your gender.
I found out that if you choose the humourous/charming response instead of the diplomatic one in that situation, you skip the whole 2 flirts 1 rivalry thing. After that, he never hit on my male Hawke what so ever.

It doesn't help that the Bioware writer thought Twilight had a good romantic narrative.

There is an option for no homosexuality in Dragon Age 2, infact there's 2 of them, you can

1- Not play the game and avoid the homosexual encounters all together

or

2- Just say no to the person in game and go on to who you want.

Whew! Man that sure is HARD to do.
You're so clever! What are you doing here though, you should be spending your time on more important issues that really need solving!!
My God sir you are RIGHT. I'm off to cure cancer and save children away *flies away*

Lol first playthrough i flirted with everyone, had a 1 night stand with Isabella end ended up with Anders as a relation because he was the first that gave the option.
That screwed up my romance achievement though after what he frikking did to the Chantry. Like hell i can still say "I love you" after he did that.

I spit my drink when Anders made the ferelden circle remark in act 3 in the hanged man.
"At the ferelden circle everyone was kissing everyone ... that was before the abominations though."

Also laughed when the male prostitute in the blooming rose complained the templer didn't wanna sleep with him either. Funny bit is if you have Aveline in your party and you take his offer to have sex she gets a bit pissed.

However, it would be nice if the characters in the game were either bi straight or gay. Everyone being bisexual is just lazy writing more than anything else.
Surely if Hawke has romance plots with every character regardless of gender that's MORE writing.

"A disgruntled BioWare fan, who accused the studio of neglecting the "straight, male gamer" with the romance options in Dragon Age 2, has received a dressing down from the game's lead writer, David Gaider, who says that while straight, male gamers might be the majority, raw numbers don't give them any right to expect special treatment."

Now, can we say the same thing to gay people that they shouldn't get special treatment or rules based on their lifestyle? Take Hate Crime Laws for example, if someone beats someone up because they are gay the person gets a harsher sentence than if it was because they just didn't like the person. Neither act should be worse than the other, but it is giving gay people more value as a person in a way. Equality means just that, equal, not you are extra special because you are this or that in your choice of sexual partners. Besides, I've never heard of a crime against a person that was done out of anything but hate.

I've never met a gay person with a spirit of Justice halfway possessing them, either. lol

I think it's supposed to be obvious that Anders is not quite right in the head. If you went so far out of your way to help him, maybe he just needed to vent about the whole having to kill his first boyfriend thing? I don't know, it didn't seem THAT far from realistic considering how messed up he is.

Especially concerning the other, far less-realistic portions of the game.

How dare Bioware accept homosexuality?
As a straight male, I demand Garrett Hawke to be swimming in poon-tang, not occassionally flirted with by other men! tsk.
Ah yes, the Commander Shepard approach to NPC attraction levels.

You have the option to say like "no, I'm not gay" if you feel guilty for pressing it you might be stuck in a closet yourself.

Are you seriously suggesting that going after someone simply because of who they're attracted to, without any other sort of valid reason, should be equal to someone getting in an argument with someone and falling into a physical altercation? That defending a person's right to BE is favoritism? Really?

This is as baffling a thought to be as someone wondering why manslaughter carries lesser punishment than first-degree murder.

How about necessity? Poverty. Being strung out on drugs or alcohol. There are a thousand (exaggeration, obviously) completely non-personal reasons for crime.

Wow, I delivered a hero to the world. I feel I can die happily now, knowing that I made a difference and my life had purpose. Incredible, you just helped someone again by making me think that! Amazing!
Gonna be honest, I've been having a crappy day and these past few comments have been giving me some chuckles, thanks *thumbs up*

Because apparently "straight, male gamers" are not pandered to enough in games?

This guy knows Duke Nukem Forever is coming out this year, right?
Haha I'd actually forgotten about the duke when I was reading this. But joking aside I suppose I could sort of understand if flirting bothered some people. Maybe they should just have it so flirting happens if *you* push for it? Seems like it would solve all of the problems in my opinion but, *shruggs*.

Maybe it's because of Justice!

I'm sure he liked the months he spent actually having a dick in Awakenings, and decided to double-time it to make up for an eternity as a eunuch!
