I noticed that too, emerald.. I find it especially funny since, as far as I know, large portions of Canada speak french.
Just as large portions of America speak Spanish... Only Quebec is mainly french-speaking.

OT: I haven't played DA2, so I can't say, but DA:O had great bi characters. I loved Zevran.

And for people talking about "Statistics", remember that they aren't 100% true, and the world of Dragon Age has VASTLY different positions on sexuality than many parts of our world.

The guy is an ignorant moron, though I will admit that the game seems to push Anders at you a little too much.
Eh, I thought he was being very friendly very quickly, but it never went into a definite "I'm making a pass at you".

I don't really know my history well, but seeing as these fantasy games are based around Medieval-esque "ages", it seems out of place that homosexuality would be so prominent and openly available. Except if it actually was back in those times, again I'm not really sure, this is just off of what I envision those times were like.

I'm no homophobe or anything so don't take this the wrong way, but it just strikes me as misplaced in the Dragon Age universe. Maybe I'm just brainwashed by all of the macho medieval stories of heroes and knights saving princesses and all of that. I'm sure it would exist, but a guy hitting on you is much less likely than a girl in modern society, so it would be even significantly less back then.

Just a passing thought.
Well, its passed in and out of acceptance throughout history. Ancient Greeks were all for it, and the Romans were, then they weren't, etc.

And just because its based on Medieval England/Europe doesn't mean it needs to reflect that exactly, if not its just alternate history, not fantasy.

And what would happen if one of these spirits had instead become attached to a human like Loghain?
Now that I think about it, maybe if the game had dragged out longer, a horrid thought I know, he was probably two maybe three steps away from signing a deal with the devil if he thought it would save Ferelden from Orlais.

I don't know his character beyond Well Intentioned Extremist, but that could have been possible.

And then only a maxed out Templar or a maxed out Mage would have won the Landsmeet.

Might have made the voting thing moot point once they saw the glowing though.

Maybe that's what could have been Merrill's thing. Sounds like it from her "must restore the mirror at any cost".

At first upon seeing this line: "Unfortunately, those choices are what one would call "exotic" choices." in the complaint post, I wanted to point out the racist connotations. What is "exotic" to you? Are the only women you're interested in courting blond-haired, blue-eyed Southern belles?

Then I saw these characters he was pointing out.

This Merrill is, aside from pointy ears, facial tattoos, and dark hair, the DEFINITION of Western European beauty. High cheek bones, large eyes, delicate nose and mouth, pale skin (that last one has lately shifted because tanned skin now represents health as opposed to poverty(having to work in the sun), while pale represents shut-in as opposed to wealth (not having to leave the house). She looks like a more stylized Natalie Portman.

Isabela, on the other hand, is more reminiscent of Angelina Jolie after lip reduction surgery, and a lip piercing just for good measure. Her skin is a healthy tan, her face has smoother, less prominent features than Merrill, and her hair is not only the most common type in Western Europe (Straight and brown) but is also worn, with the exception of a bandanna, in the most common fashion women will wear their hair: Long and down.

I don't get "exotic" from these characters. I get Hollywood different from them. And in a way, I think this might make that person that much more racist for demarcating such slight differences from his norm.

I suppose I might find out during her act 3 quest, once BioWare finally release that patch...
I have seen this remark before. I finished the games twice with what i think is Merrill's act 3 quest. The game glitched on many things but never on this one. (well not 100% true the first playthrough the "questioning believes" quest glitched after i did her act 3 quest).

At least if the act 3 quest is the one i am thinking about.

I can't help but wonder if he was refering to Isabella with the same "exotic" as we use in "exotic dancer".

Sounds like the people who complain (possibly) don't know what flirting is.

The only thing I noticed was that elf in the Brothel. The actual companions didn't seem to be pushy at all... unless provoked (the big heart next to the dialog was kinda a give away!) : P

Oh yeah, the pirate girl Isabella I guess... she does flirt with everyone/thing.
Which they make a point of in the game itself where anders basically says (not a full quote of course) That everyone sleeps with isabela.

OT: Good for them, freaking homophobes annoy the shit out of me

As someone who had no trouble at all with (potentially) gay characters throwing themselves at my totally-not-gay male protagonist, I'm a little baffled as to what kind of random-ass approach you would have to take in dialogue to be able to relate to that CAD strip.

The only male NPC I can think of who makes the first (verbal) move on DudeHawke is the fruity elf in the brothel - and his every other line is punctuated with "stony disapproval" reaction shots from your party.
The CAD strip and a fair few other peoples reactions are based more along the fact that there is a major "Rivalry" hit if you don't flirt.

If you want to make Anders the best healer... the game mechanics say you need to be max friendship or whatever its called.... you get punished in this goal for not being interested.
1. Friendship makes him better at nuking, actually. Rivalry increases his personal health regeneration.

2. The outfit change for romance (if even available) is cosmetic, and you can romance someone with rivalry as well as friendship.

3. If you want the friendship bonus, you get that halfway from the center, which is really easy to achieve even with the occasional setback.

I'd make a witty comment about... hell, I dunno, something like being a bit too vocal about your straightness or whatnot, or a quip about how this person's crying how TEH GAYS are oppressing him or something, but I'm tired.

I'll just instead say that none of the romances or romanceable NPCs are exactly hugely intresting and he should man up and not expect anyone to take anything that contains "I, as a straight white man, demand that the gays get less attention" seriously.

Yes, I took it out of context. And it's still true.

Ahhh, I didn't realise these things since I barely really used Anders except as a healbot.. didn't like the character and really didnt like him later in the game.

I personally take it as a compliment to my character. My Hawke is such a babe that she attracts lust from both genders. Bring your timid elves, busty pirate babes, tortured elves with bad haircuts, and redhead mages! THEY WILL ALL BOW BEFORE HAWKE'S SEXINESS!

... Sorry, got carried away. >>

I see nothing wrong with adding a sexual preference when making your character. This would fix any problems like this I think. Also Anders and Fennris both act like a dick to you when you tell them you don't swing that way as a male character.Take Zevrin form DAO.You tell him no and hes totally ok with it,no mean looks or angry responses from him.I know its only when you first tell them no after that its pretty normal.
I find it funny how people call this guy a homophobe just because of his opinion.Of course Bioware has to stay politically correct in all this and its great that they give this options for everyone to enjoy. However it could have been presented better in the DA2.Its seem its always the homosexuals that get the knee jerk reactions to post like this.Sure I may disagree with your lifestyle but I don't hate you for it.Its your choice and I can respect that as long as you respect my choice to be straight.

Um, people do realise this is a game, not porn, right?
The romance options are not put in there for you to get it off!
Idealy, they should be there to enhance the character interactions...
True, thinking about Isabella makes it hard to take seriously, but it still stands.

If you are a straight male and all you can play in a RPG is yourself, I really wonder why you bother with the genre.
Its not about you, its about the character.

As for complaining, that there are to many options in a game, wow...
Next I want all those pesky people that don´t have blond hair to go, please...
sheesh!

And just for the record: Nothing is stopping your Hawke from just acting like a dick to the males comming onto you... ;-)

What I find annoying in Dragon Age 1 & 2 is that to get a romance with a male NPC, it takes almost no effort but you have to bend over backwards to get a romance with a female NPC. This is regardles of what your gender is.

I nominate this as being the corniest Dragon Age come-on ever.
I nominate this as being the come-on I will use at my local Anime/Gaming con this year. Kudos!

You know who really got left out? The asexual gamers. Sure, there is Sebastian, but he is only for a Female Hawke. We demand an Asexual romance for men!

It may not be realistic, but what I would appreciate it if Bioware made every character respond to rejection with a cheerful okay. I hate the game making me feel like a jerk because I was interested in a character's story and/or polite and they made an unwanted advance.

A lot of people seem to be making a weird assumption.

Friendship points aren't 'good'. Complaining that you lost friendship points is only important if you specifically want the friendship bonus the companion gives you. This is something the game designers have been very specific on.

Friendship - an intense bond based on mutual agreement and your willingness to go along with the person's choices. Presumably this includes giving in to them when they make advances on you, or at least not specifically shooting them down on the spot.
Rivalry - an intense bond based on mutual disagreement and you asserting your will over the person. Rivalry is not antagonism, it means that you do what you think is right and the other person can go fuck themselves.. but they respect you for that.

In game terms, they are effectively the same thing. They give you a different bonus, but really the only important thing is that you are consistent. Rivalry doesn't mean a character doesn't like you, if they didn't like you they wouldn't drop everything to go and trapse through a mossy cave with you looking for goodies, it's just a different sort of relationship. As far as I'm aware, you can romance characters with a high enough rivalry just as you could with a high enough friendship.

A good example of rivalry in action would be Anders and Varric. They snipe at each other constantly in dialogue, then invite each other out for drinks afterwards.

So no, you didn't 'lose friendship points' for shooting Anders down, you gained rivalry points. You should only feel like a dick if you feel bad for disagreeing with your friends or occasionally hurting their feelings. The rivalry position assumes that it's okay to disagree so long as there is underlying respect.
