Ok I am a very big fan of Dragonage as a franchise and I maintain that Origins is one of the best RPG's out there. But Dragon age 2 really shook my faith in Bioware's ability to produce top quality RPG games.
My major issues with DA2 was laziness. The copy paste scenery was really obvious and more apparent then ever before. Yes I am aware that it was also used in DA:Origins but it was less obvious because of the scope of the game. That is my second point. Having the game focused in one small geographical area is absolutely fine. But that is not compatible with the copy paste syndrome and the very real way in which Bioware limit your ability to explore Kirkwall.
Next on my list was bad story telling. It lurched from 1 protagonist to another which left little focus on what the main issue was. Is the third game going to be focused on the mage-templar war? Are the Qunari going to be involved? It looks like they are treading water and I don't appreciate being treated to a game like that.
Legacy answers all of these negatives and also provides answers to where they are taking the 3rd game, if you look carefully. The new scenery was more varied (although still clearly lifted from other parts of the DA2 game). It was a new area. A big one. And it wasn't in Kirkwall.
Most importantly it is a major stepping point in Biowares defining of the darkspawn who have undergone a complete transformation (ala Qunari). It also fills in some helpful gaps about the darkspawn origins and a loose explanation why Kirkwall is so horrendously bloody and unable to compromise. All of these are important story elements that were neglected in DA2 and contributed to the ambiguity of the game.
So did anyone else play legacy and come out of it thinking that this piece of DLC has helped redeem a game that is clearly the most lacklustre produced in years? Thoughts?
