I'm half-way through my second playthrough now and I think it might be my new favourite game.
Damn you with your ninja.

The most annoying thing about this game is the FIVE threads i've seen in the last 2 days. But other than that, i kinda think blood sucks mah balls

I just want to say I really love this game, and I don't think it deserves all of the hate it's getting, but there were quite a few things that annoyed me.

-Like others have said, the spawning issue where enemies would appear from corners right on top of you. You guys are acting like this is new, but it's not. I was playing Awakening the other day to import a new save into DA2 and there were a bunch of children spawning out of corners on top of Anders, some even getting stuck inside of the wall. Granted the game did come out a year ago.

-The fact the dungeons and caves were sooo over used was really disappointing. The mini map wasn't even changed to show that you couldn't go past closed doors!

-The fact that you could support the mages throughout the entire game and you would get attacked by them non stop. Reminiscent of KotOR and supporting the Sith and still being attacked by them, although they have a leader who is trying to kill you and the mages don't...so that is a HUGE difference.

- Too much Kirkwall. I want to see the rest of the world that had been affected by choices in the first game.
I thought being a blood mage was pretty good, they could've used one less healing and one more damage spell though.

I agree on the Kirkwall thing though, at the end of Awakening the epilogue says it's not the end of the Warden's story, but then we don't see him. And it seems like the choices from the first game were all for naught except whether or not you meet Alistair. I was disappointed in the ending...Are we getting DLC of the Warden maybe? I'd assume they'd continue the story in Dragon Age 3.

What makes me the most angry about Dragon age 2 is all the whining and complaining about it from people. Yes it's not perfect, few games actually are, and that includes Dragon Age: Origins, but it's an enjoyable experience which is for me what a game should be at it's best. If you like it or dislike it though, you are entitled to your opinion, but why people feel the need to go on multiple threads starting a whiny hate fest I shall never understand.
Well, it's not like we force you to read it. If there's something nagging you, it's best to get it out of your system and be done with it. We all have a right to bash the games we buy, being critical to games is just as important as being critical to a movie.

CARVER RIVALRY (+9001)

WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM CARVER
Yes, because let us pretend that Carver's rivalry stat with you actually matters to anything ever.

In my first playthrough, I ended up sending Isabela off with the Qunari, and killing Anders because seriously, guy, no.

Tho: Fenrir and Anders are easy to get to Friendship/Rivalry--stop being a mage. If you play a decidedly anti-mage stance, they'll fall in line nicely and quickly.

If Verric is moving around so much, manually tell him to stop moving. Also, invest in his Agro dumps so he gets hit less.

I found the game to be very satisfying. Dragon Age is a crap sack world. You're not supposed to think one side is better than the other. Both have their points, and both are right... and at the same time OH SO VERY WRONG.

Besides, how many games replace 'save the world' with 'break the world'? It's not the usual BioWare ending, that's for damn sure.

Frankly, threads like this make me the angriest. While I haven't finished the game yet, it obviously has its issues, but it's certainly superior to its predecessor (if for no other reason than that the combat no longer makes me want to stop playing every time I have to slog through it).

So yeah, what pisses me off the most is this: An ambitious, thoughtful game like Dragon Age 2 can waste some of its potential while still being a lot of fun and the fans will turn on it wholesale, while other games can be (in my opinion) anywhere from lazily mediocre (Halo) to patronizing, half-baked utter crap with a decent paint job (Bioshock), and those same fans will argue rabidly that they are examples of the best works the medium has ever produced.

I get it, wasted potential IS intensely frustrating, but let's try to keep some perspective, shall we?

Priceless yes KOTOR made sense because not only does the leader want to kill you but also sith are "EVIL" in pure form more or less and so them wanting to kill you despite trying to help them comes as no surprise.

All the hate. I'm not saying DA2 perfect or anything, dont get me wrong. Its just that the hate makes me wish I had bought Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2 or DA:0 instead of DA2. And maybe I should have, but its too late now and reading about how terrible DA2 is has the effect of dampening the enjoyment I get out of my $60 game.

Well, I actually liked the kane and lynch games to a certain degree. Mostly because I love the "Pusher" movies and IO interactives initiative to give you some different protagonist than the blandy bland mix that's apparently in this time of the decade.

Plus I love Brian Blooms voice in a totally hetero way.

DISCLAIMER: It's still bad mind you, but I'll give it credit for creating the same atmosphere as the before-mentioned movies.

Well it never seem to me that it never made sense in DA2, if only because the mages oblivously are very much divided in small groups that all have their own agenda, siding with the mages IMO basicly saying "the status quo no longer can stand"

I hate that Leliana makes a meaningless cameo towards the end even though my Warden-Commander killed that preachy **** in DA:O.

Couldn't possibly be that I'm just mentioning it because I think it's funny.
Or perhaps that I'm avoiding any actual bitching because we've already had so fucking much of that.

Simple.

Bioware, a beloved developer, screwed up BIG-TIME after critical successes like ME2 and DA:O. Currently, DA2 stands at the second lowest rated Bioware game on Metacritic (81 not bad but well below Bioware standards) and is seen as a the ruination of a working concept.

I mean Bioware had it all with DA:O but then decided to screw it up by releasing a unfinished product that had an abrupt ending, poor writing, and lack of big consequences with the choices you made.

I mean honestly can anyone tell me the difference with the choices in the ending? Both sides still turn on you and war still comes despite everything you do.

I think this game is awesome and Bioware really did not disappoint in terms of story. But what really annoys me is the needless and crappy glitches. Specifically with the DLC. Firstly the achievements are not unlocking. And secondly the terrain sometimes doesn't render properly leaving the maps a bland greyish white.

Female Hawke:

Two homosexual options - Merrill and Isabella.

I am not sure what you are getting at here.
Didn't the elf from the first game feature a cameo? Where you could ridicously make passes at him? Maybe I was a bit quick on the trigger, but I do seem to recall a lot of uncalled passes only to get loyalty points. And Anders had changed far too much from Awakening to DA2. He totally lost a big part of his humor.
He did, and if isabella is in your group, they can go off and have sex. If you want to, they can include you too. Yeah.

Anders hit on me the first chance he could.
Fenris is a whiny prick.
Isabella is a whore. She even goes to Anders to have "disease" taken care of. If it wasn't for magic, this woman would have so many STds they would combine and for a Super STD that would kill you in about 5 seconds.

Merill was funny, and Varric was the best character in the game.

I hated the respawning enemies, because it was pointless, and I ended up killing dozens of people while on my way to kill dozens of people. I hated how the Orsino was a jackass at the very end, and I hate how theres no real closure to the story. Nothing was accomplished. I also hate how I walked through the same cave, warehouse, and tunnel about 30 times.

I hate that they took everything that was awesome and involving about DAO and dumbed it down for Ritalin-popping 12-year-olds who can't stand it when things like strategy and story get in the way of button-mashing and gore. This was my most-anticipated game of this year and turned into the biggest disappointment.
Good to know you can still talk about a game you obviously didn't play.
Well, I didn't finish it, but I have indeed played it and played quite a bit of it. Does it actually turn into a decent game further down the road? Maybe in the last chapter? Are there some ZOMGAMAZING end credits? I haven't uninstalled it from my PC yet, but the fact is, I'm STILL replaying DAO but am reluctant to go back and finish DA2 even once.

The environments. Not just the reused ones, the whole game world. For instance the alienage is supposed to be crammed with elves, but it has like five houses. And when you think it would be horrible to cram hundreds of elves into such a space, you see Merrils relatively large home in which she lives alone. And she complains of the horrible conditions of which there are none evident. And she says her house is always a mess even though it looks quite neat. Stuff like that.

The reused caves also make the game rather predictable, and the second someone mentions a mage, you already know you're going to be fighting an abomination. My character, a blood mage himself, would sometimes freak out at the prospect of a desperate mage using blood magic.

Its not a horrible game, as disappointing games go it is fantastic, but the original set standards too high and the sequel had no hopes of achieving them in such a short development time. And its really unfair to say that one should ignore the bad stuff because its a Bioware game and still fun to play. Other developers don't get such treatment, neither should Bioware.
