Well dragon age is a huge time consumption. It takes forever and sometimes you have to replay the same boss over and over because its also very hard. You basically need to know what your doing if your gonna succed to get through it all on anything but easy.

Lots of dialogue and text to read but it doesnt take that long to get started and the combat part is greatly done. It isnt really fast paced game atleast not for me that sat through and planned out the characters before hand wich i thanked god for later cause my guess how the game was gonna play out was correct.

It is the best singleplayer RPG out there at the moment but if your not into RPGs i would probably take another game.

PS you didnt say what other games you where thinking of buying.

Try to become involved with morrigan....the result was one of the most heartbreaking endings ever...We were good friends...lovers i did all her side quests....

Only in the end for to ask to have my baby so that the archdemons soul would be absorbed by it and spare my life...Oh yea the kid would be fine but she left and i never got to see her or my baby...

Or i could kill it myself and die...

Or let someone else kill it but morrigan leaves anyway...

there is a lot of talking a lot. the combat is good even thought i have no idea what the f*** is happening. i walk into a room and we start hitting each other the other people all fall over. thats all i really know right now. if you can handle the massive amounts of talking then you are good

Fake: Really? Spoilers much, especially for someone who hasn't played the game.

Anyway: I binged on it. I loved it. Playing as a human noble warrior. There are some pretty heartbreaking moments in the game. You don't realize how much you care for some characters until something happens in the game. The other nice thing is the complete lack of a morality meter. It lets you be more ambiguous; doing the right things aren't always the most tempting in this game like they were in Mass Effect and KOTOR.

Dragon Age is easily one of the best games of the last couple of years. If you don't like RPGs or high fantasy, this might be the type of game that makes you *start* liking them.

It may sound dumb to say so, but the key to enjoying an RPG is in the RP part; they're not called "role-playing games" for nothing. And yes, involving yourself in a story and game-world and truly trying to live in the protagonist's skin involves a little suspension of disbelief, and involves taking off that "I'm a super cynical gamer looking to critique every tiny detail" hat that a lot of us are constantly wearing. There's nothing wrong with letting ourselves be carried away by the magic of a game that has an emotional story to tell, is there?

I havn't passed the starting area yet but it already bored the shit out of me.
If someone can claim that the game gets better I might play it again.

EDIT: 24th hundred post ftw ^^
I felt the same way. I choose a human warrior and I thought the game sucked until I got past Ostragar where I got lots more abilities, I got into the story, I got lots of party members of different classes and got to dungeon crawl.

Best RPG of the last decade, it has amazing story and depth which alone demands a playthrough!
Nope. BG2 is. The story of DA:O is boring and generic, and it cannot even touch the depth of BG2 in any aspect.
About that.

I played it myself for about 30% through, then put it away. It's fun while it's new, and running around blood-splattered also can be fun if you like this sort of thing or need to blow some steam off. But after that, it's just a graphic engine that got a story, some archetype characters, some characters that are different in a archetypical way, and spellcasting boobies. Yes the sex in it was made up to be one of its selling points, which was one of the reasons I was disgusted enough to put it away.

For fuck sake at least put spoiler tags. You've probably spoiled the ending for a good few people now.

If you don't like fantasy games or RPG's then your not gonna like Dragon Age. It's still a great game but you need to be happy in your gaming purchases. Find a friend who has it and thy their copy first.

I'm with you on BG2 being better in some respects, but I don't think it's fair to call the DA:O story boring and generic after only going through 30% of the game. A quarter of the way into BG2 I wouldn't have thought it would be an all-time great, either.

Also, I get that a lot of game developers are using sex as a cheap marketing ploy, and that the way it's implemented is often silly or otherwise ludicrous. But, shouldn't we push them to keep at it until we get it right? If we want our games (especially our RPGs) to be "realistic" and for art to imitate life...don't we really need the sex/romance aspects? Granted, I know sex isn't a huge part of most gamers' lives, but still...

The WRPG is a rare genre, Dragon Age is a step in the right direction and I want more games to play, so I'm going to be selfish and recommend the game to a complete stranger asking for advice.

Dragon Age is awesome! Buy today!
What's funny is that it's not really a step in the right direction. Instead it's a resurrection of the old Infinity Engine style of games. But since it's been a long time now since we last had one of those, a lot of the new batch of gamers are kind of unaware of their existence. They are just now realizing how ridiculously awesome they are with Dragon Age: Origins. The classics will always be the best.

Hmm..i say get it anyway you never know...it reminds me a little of WoW with the class system they have but obviously it's not as big as WoW so i wouldnt be judging it on that. However i recommend it due to it's story, and characterization

I haven't been playing it for very long, but from what I can tell, it looks fantastic so far. A little difficult, seeing as I'm playing as a Mage, but nothing I can't handle. The whole atmosphere of the game is both epic and deep, and I just hope the game keeps it up 'till the end.

Summary: yes, you probably should get it if you're a fan of Bioware, RPGs, and/or Mass Effect.
