So I have a bit of a conundrum and I was hoping I could pose it to you, the Escapists, and hopefully get some guidance.

Dragon Age 2 is coming out very soon. I'm planning on pre-ordering it before the 11th so as to get the free content and upgrade and what-not. I'm a rather large BioWare whore, so I don't think I can wait the year or so to get the Ultimate Edition with all DLC at a bargain price, so please keep that in mind. I'm planning on getting the game on day one, if not sooner.

My conundrum has to do with what platform I should get it for. I bought Dragon Age: Origins for PS3, but have recently been getting back into PC gaming. I consider myself primarily a PC gamer. However, I don't know how well Origins played on PC, nor if there were any worthwhile mods that came out for it or anything like that.

So I pose this question: Should I pick it up for PS3, sticking with what I already know works and possibly carrying over any save game things that might play a part? Or do I switch over to PC, in hopes that my PC gaming preference will pay off and that I will be able to play the game better that way, in terms of graphics and controls?

Any thoughts?

You have a much greater level of control in the PC version (at least you did in Origins). You can pause combat without having to bring up a radial menu, look around with the tactical camera, move your party members like RTS units, and so forth. I have origins for the 360, and I feel like I missed something. Get it for PC.

Then the world he crafted over a long time in Origins would be for nothing.

Am I the only one thinking about the saves carrying over?
Carrying saves over is all well and good, but since you're not bringing over a character I think it's a fair trade-off for improved gameplay.

well I'm a console gamer
but I've heard DAO was way better on the PC
so the PC version of DA2 might rock balls

and I'm having a ***** of a time posting because of the fucking Captcha

I would go with PC. I've played it on console and PC and while I prefer, generally, the way the controls work (it's been a while, so I could even be wrong there), the PC version is just... better. You can pause, as someone noticed, and you get a sort of giggle moment when you zoom way out and have sort of a Diablo version of DA:O going on. Plus, with DA:O on PC, you can download countless user-made mods that really enhance the game overall (for instance: there are multiple Leliana mods that make her look as cool as she does in the original CG trailer as well as mods for the rest of the companions and a hundred other things, one of my favorites being 'Skip the Fade' for anyone - and I mean everyone - who hates the Fade).

PC is always going to be better for mods; I don't mean PC is a better platform altogether, but when it comes to customization, it's always the best bet. You may not be able to transfer your prior games over, but... I've honestly rarely played a game and then gotten another where who I was before mattered so much to who I intend to be. DA2 is another game. I'd get it for PC.

(sorry this is so long)

In my opinion DA:O was best on the PC. With the xbox and Playstation ports graphics were sacrificed and it lost the versatility of the keyboard & mouse setup. I saw the same situation with ME2 so I have no reason to doubt that DA2 wont have a similar problem (if you consider it a problem).

That said, I would recomend getting DA2 for the PC before any other system but it does come down to personal preference. If you really want to get it for PS3 then get it for PS3

If you are fine with the fact that switching platforms means no save game import, go for PC. Dragon Age was made for it. I realize DA2 will have some big differences from its predecessor, but I still think it just plays better as a PC game.

If your saves really mean a lot to you, stick to PS3.

It depends on how much you care about carrying your character over. Although if that really is a big problem you could just buy DAO on PC, which is fairly cheap these days, and go through it again on PC before you play DA2.

The differences between control schemes basically comes down to whether you want fast flowing action on a controller, or a more strategic system on a keyboard. I'm actually of the very small minority who actually prefers playing Dragon Age Origins on a console, due to a preference for using a controller.

I just recently picked the first one up on the pc during the steam sale. I haven't seen what origins looks like on consoles. Trust me when I say this, I have a VERY strong preference of controller over keyboard, but I can't even fathom what a translation of this interface might look like.

I say go for PC.

Dragon Age Origins on the PC was far superior to the console versions both in terms of graphics (assuming you had a decent rig) and mechanics like the top-down view. If you're worried about you choices in Origins carrying over, the story of 2 seems to be very self contained and seperate from the one you played in Origins, at least according to the info I've had a look at. Personally, I'm getting it on the PC because Origins was so much better on it.

However, according to Bioware the different versions of the game are actually going to have slight tweaks in the emphasis placed in combat. For example, console versions are going to be tweaked to cater slightly more towards fast paced action combat, whereas the PC version will be slightly more suited to the pause-plot-play style of combat, where you pause the action a lot to line up your characters perfectly and to set up the perfect combos.

So yeah, I'd recommend getting the PC version, because the PC version of Origins was superior, but the console versions will have something in its favour as well.

I have seen DA:O being played on PC and I have played it on console, I think the only advantages are free raoming camera thing and you can put alot more abilities on a hot keys. Which I don't think are that great.

You can still have both styles of play on a console (I did it all the time in DA:O), so why not see how your story continues on the PS3?

PC, hands down. BioWare said they're overhauling the combat on consoles but have been pretty tight-lipped about what that actually entails. The original Dragon Age played alright on consoles, but keybinds really made the combat flow better - especially if you're planning on playing a mage, who havee 10^3 spells to keep track of.

Long story short, BOW DOWN TO THE ALMIGHTY PC GODS!
