probably ffxiii

i love both games, but man...ff just takes the cake, i love everything about it (sure its more linear based, but does every single game have to be open world to be enjoyable? no, it has a wonderful story and awesome characters, so im fine with it)

So I'm pickin up a new PS3 pretty soon and I love me some RPGs, I've seen reviews of these two and my friend who has both has told me about both of them but he's a die hard FF fan, so his opinion is obviously biased more to FF. What I want to know is which one should I pick up with my PS3? I am going to pick up FF13 no matter what eventually but should I pick it up first, or go with Dragon Age? Or is there another RPG more worth my time? Some feedback would be great because I'm really split on these two
Final Fantasy XIII Hands down, purely for the fact that if you're getting DA:O, you need to buy it on pc. It's horrible on consoles and just doesn't work.
Go with 13, and if you have a decent enough computer, grab Dragon Age.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate (if this applies here) and say neither. I've played both of these and I honestly didn't care for either of them. Final Fantasy XIII's characters were far too annoying to get to know and Dragon Age's fighting kind of annoyed me. No matter how often I updated my party's armor, they always ended up dying or something, but I may just be doing something wrong. I would either wait to see what comes out, but I've heard a lot of good things about God of War III from a friend of mine.
Firtsly, did you play as a rogue in Dragon Age?, and secondly... God of war isn't an RPG. This guy is asking for the difference between two great role playing games. Not some high definition repetitive hack and slash that's main clientelle is virgins and sadomasochists.

Yes I did play as a rogue and it was probably the best class I played as. And I know God of War III isn't an RPG, it was just a suggestion. Relax pal, no need to be a ass about a simple suggestion.

Dragon Age: Excellent WRPG
FFXIII: Good JRPG, bad FF

I have played both and will definitely recomend DA:O (and I love FF). Saying that though, I have heard that DA:O is not as good on a console.
Perhaps Resonance Of Fate, a new release JRPG that is getting very good reviews. I haven't played it myself, as it hasn't been released yet in UK (2 more days), so I can't personally recommend it, but have a look at reviews and check around to see what people say about it (has been released in NA already).

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. I did see a review on it and it did look pretty sweet. Dammit, another one to consider.

Dragon Age is an above average WRPG, but FF13 is an amazing JRPG.

I'll take FF13.

That said, Dragon Age IS worth a purchase down the line.
Hey you just saved me a lot of time, by saying what I was going to. So I just have to quote you say "That" and carry on.

But it'll come down to what kind of a rpg you prefer. If you don't make your decision from the forum, I'd suggest renting them both and then buying witch ever you liked more.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either choice. I will say this, FFXIII has a very action-y kinda feel too it whereas DA is decidedly more old school. FFXIII is exceedingly Japanese and perhaps a bit more mysterious, and DA shows off it's pen and paper roots with reckless abandon. Either way, you're likely to be doing a lot of reading.

Both good games but what made the decision for me is that Dragon Age Awakening is an expansion rather than a whole new game, meaning there won't be nearly as much gameplay as in Origins. I could be wrong but I'll find out when I'm done with FF13 :)

I own both, and trust me that Dragon Age is better. I'm an FF Fan, and FF13 was a letdown. I checked my playtime, and save playtime blocks out cutscenes.

Here's what it was:

4 hours. Of cutscenes.

I'd watched 2 movies of pretty cutscenes.

Dragon Age gives a bunch of freedom, and my Dad has watched both games, says DA has better graphics, and is better overall.

Just my opinion.

To the People saying that DA:O Is Bland And Generic: Oh yes. Totally. You know what else is bland and generic?

"Hey, lets go save the world!"

That's the beginning of FF13. Here's what I've got from it so far:

"Hey Person-with-weird-hair! Let's have an epic backstory that will be slowly revealed, start a game where the player for the first 1 1/2 hrs is going "WTF IS GOING ON" and when halfway through disc two feels the linearity closing in on him make it even MORE linear!"

The real question is do you love actual RPGs, or fantasy based games loosely based on D&D rules?(JRPGs)

If you don't know what I'm talking about, FF13, Dragon Age will be too complicated for you. Plus, it's the console version which is easier and not as good. No PC elitism, do the research, the console versions got dumbed down since you can't control the combat as easily.

But if you've actually played games like the original Fallout entries, Morrowind, or Baldur's Gate, wtf are you waiting for and go play DAO.

Congratulations, you actually do fall into the category of FF fan! So tired of all the fanboys that will take any shit that SE throws them. Though I have to say you're liar about graphics. =p DAO is really kinda shoddy looking, but they were going for that aesthetic.

Personally, Dragon Age.

I got the new Dragon Age expansion the same day I got XIII. I opened and played XIII first. I got about an hour and a half in before I gave up and started playing Awakening.

Not that XIII is bad, it just didn't hold my interest the way I knew Dragon Age could. I will go back to XIII once I finish awakening. Twice. (Gotta do a good and evil run)

Dragon Age, the combat is less boring than traditional WRPGs using the D&D ruleset. + with the mod-friendly nature of the game on PC, I doubt I'll be bored with this anytime soon, must finish 3rd character play-through, then Awakening time.

I tried DA:O for the PS3, and it was pretty meh. I have heard that the PC version is worlds better. So I would say just rent DA:O to see if you like it. I haven't gotten a chance to play FF 13 yet, so I can't in good conscience recommend buying it. Although it does look pretty kickass. And it was originally a PS3 exclusive. And there is a black guy with a chocobo in his wig.

Do you want an RPG or a partially interactive movie? That should pretty much answer your question. If you want a more direct answer, however, go with Dragon Age. :)

I'd say whichever one you are itching to play the most. If you're gonna get FF anyway, then this is pretty much just asking if DA is worth getting, so yes. Yes, Dragon Age is very much worth getting. Should you get it first? I have no idea, how long would you be waiting to get FF if you didn't buy that right away? If it's a long time then DA could definitely take up some time for you.

I've been hearing this myself. A friend and I both got the PC version and loved it, but anyone I've talked to with the console version has been much less enthusiastic.

I had almost made up my mind to get FFXIII then you guys come along...so, seeing as my computer is a POS, would DA be worth gettin on console? Alot of people are sayin its not as good as the PC version, so I'm not sure if I want to pick it up now, or wait to upgrade my PC, if I ever get around to doing that
