many people have different opinions but rent both and see which one you like
rpg's are much better for pc because you have more access to the game like if you didnt loke a certain part of a game you can look around and you most likely will find a fix for it and even if you dont im sure a program is available to modify it yourself (might take a long time)

All of my friends got Dragon Age for PC.

I purchased it on PS3.

I am the only one who did more than one playthrough, the only one who then purchased the books, the only one who got the DLC's, and the only one with Awakening.

I tried the PC version once. There were some things I liked better, but I like the PS3 version more, actually. It may have just been that I was already used to the PS3 controls when I tried it on PC though.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate (if this applies here) and say neither. I've played both of these and I honestly didn't care for either of them. Final Fantasy XIII's characters were far too annoying to get to know and Dragon Age's fighting kind of annoyed me. No matter how often I updated my party's armor, they always ended up dying or something, but I may just be doing something wrong. I would either wait to see what comes out, but I've heard a lot of good things about God of War III from a friend of mine.
Firtsly, did you play as a rogue in Dragon Age?, and secondly... God of war isn't an RPG. This guy is asking for the difference between two great role playing games. Not some high definition repetitive hack and slash that's main clientelle is virgins and sadomasochists.
Yes I did play as a rogue and it was probably the best class I played as. And I know God of War III isn't an RPG, it was just a suggestion. Relax pal, no need to be a ass about a simple suggestion.
The rogue is a broken class. I know, because I finished the game as a rogue. It makes the game unbearably hard, and not even like a fun frustration. Just bone crushingly impossible. For me that's why I didn't enjoy Dragon Age as much. I hear the other classes are alot more fun.

This entire discussion is now pointless, because he's already gone with FFXIII.
So, what do we talk about now? How about the collapse of society in the western world?

It really depends on what type of RPG you like to play more.

FFXIII is a big epic story with a pretty linear play style. It looks beautiful and has a really interesting battle system. But I didn't find the characters to be very engaging.

Dragon Age is an open style RPG that encourages exploration and relationship building. The characters stand out really well, and the story, although typical fantasy fare, is actually pretty engrossing. In particular the quality of the voice acting and the dialog is really great. But I found the battle system to be a little lacking and fights became very repetitive rather quickly. The graphics are also not all that great on consoles.

FF13 is like opening a story book, it's very linear but extremely well presented. Dragon Age is a great RPG where you truly role play, lots of freedom and many choices. If you're going to get dragon age, make sure to get it for the PC, as this version is superior to the console versions.

I had almost made up my mind to get FFXIII then you guys come along...so, seeing as my computer is a POS, would DA be worth gettin on console? Alot of people are sayin its not as good as the PC version, so I'm not sure if I want to pick it up now, or wait to upgrade my PC, if I ever get around to doing that
Okay, I played it on the PS3. And although I understand the argument that the PC looks really beautiful, the graphics did not bother me that much once I started playing.

I don't really feel Dragon Age is about the graphics, it's about the gameplay. I honestly don't think I would have enjoyed it all that more if the graphics were better. But if graphics are of prime importance to you, then you should probably wait.

But Dragon Age is one of those games that can stand on its own. It's just that good.

I've only done 7 hours or so of FF13, but my vote goes to Dragon Age. PC version though, so the vote almost doesn't count.

I'm going to toss an absolute curve-ball here and say that I think Valkyria Chronicles is better than either of those two games. Should really consider picking that one up sometime. Best WW2 (without actually being WW2) game this gen, easily (at least until HoI3 gets TRP and CORE mods).

FF13, but get Dragon Age somewhere down the line. The 2 are very different games despite being in the same genre.

I would go for FFXIII. I played through DA on my own PC and it's a great game too but I didn't like the controls for console when I played it on my buddies 360. FFXIII handles excellently and plays very fast. Either game would be good, I'd just go with FFXIII if given only one choice.

This is crazy. I've almost half a mind to say screw it and buy both. Don't think I can but I guess I'll find out in a couple of days

Which was pretty subpar, (at least, on consoles) IMO. Ah well, too each his/her own. Cheers!
Yes, the gameplay is not fantastic. To be quite frank, I loathed the battles in the Deep Roads. I just wanted to be on with the story. The fighting and leveling in FFXIII is far better in that aspect.

But, if the story of Dragon Age was good enough for me to finish that game, then for me, it must have been pretty damn good. I really didn't care for the FFXIII story or characters. And there is only so much grinding I can do before I have to hear Vanille speak again. BTW, I'm a long time FF player and have played may JRPGs, so there's no WRPG or JRPG bias here.

You are right though, it would be really hard to know what the OP is looking for since these types of opinions are very subjective. Renting to decide would probably be their best bet, and I would add, play at least a few hours of each before you decide, because neither really pick up until you get a little more into them.

I blame the pledge of allegience.
It could be doing so much more then creating a country of xenophobes.

On topic, I have DA:O for the pc but my pc broke so whilst it's getting fixed i'm on my awful laptop. (the things nearly ten years old.)
I didn't get far enough into it to make a judgement either... Will things become unbearably hard for me if I keep playing as an archer/elf?

Also is FF13 only out on consoles? I'm tempted to get a console just to get it... The downside of having a lot of money that i'm trying very hard to save up for Uni...
If so what should I get it on, PS3 or Xbox 360?

Dragon Age. It has a stellar story, stellar gameplay, and stellar characters.

FFXII on the other hand, has transvestites with too much hair jell and giant, apparently-weightless broadswords.

I think you can guess my opinion on Final Fantasy.

Well, I haven't played Dragon Age sooo......yeah, get Dragon Age.
As Yahtzee said, "Getting better later is not a valid excuse". A quote I wholeheartedly disagree with...except when "later" is 30 hours into a game.

On console? Well, Dragon Age is a PC game at heart, but depending on your perspective on control schemes, that could be a minor point. Still worth considering, though. As for the game itself...well both are great examples of there respective genres. Do you want to be told a story? Go with Final Fantasy. Do you want to create a story? Go with Dragon Age. Both are legit approaches, just a matter of what your looking for now. And of course, you likely already know the Final Fantasy tropes and the High Fantasy tropes your going to deal with in either, so take that into account as well.
