I have stopped playing Dragon Age Origins, and I'll tell ya' why. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with gameplay, graphics, story, ect., it has to do with a fatal glitch that many of the game owners encounter. At the "Final Onslaught at Redfield" level, even after killing all of the darkspawn, the waves will not appear. It won't spawn any of them, nor the Alpha Ogre needed to defeat the level. I did some research and 25% of players get this glitch, and roughly half of that are not able to continue. Neither EA or Bioware have attempted to fix thus game-breaking problem thus far, and I, like many others, will have to accept reality and stop playing.

I was lucky enough not to get that one but I was still pissed off a Origins for the fact that giving a man a second chance and not wanting to give birth to the anti-christ cost me two of my best people; 5 mins before the last boss!

:O God that sucks - have you got a previous save you can reload or something? Have you talked to all the people you're supposed to?

I never had a problem with that, the ogre always turned up in the courtyard - so I'm not sure what you should do. If you do want to complete Dragon Age, though, maybe you should try contacting bioware or something.

EDIT:

I was sort of lucky with that one. Luckily for me, even though my character was kind and all, I reasoned that she despised that person for killing her family... plus I didn't need another fighter.

Side note: I worried at first that that ^ was a spoiler, but I think you were ambiguous enough for it to not matter.

I suggest checking the Bioware forums. Often you can find error fixes in there. Trolling forums is how I managed to fix a bad install of Borderlands.

I heard about that problem and it even happened on me once but on another play it went fine. What I hated was loosing Morrigan right at the end with out a way to get around it. I had built her up as my healer and minor ranged damage. Totally messed with my stragity to have her yanked out of the game no matter what I did. Had to totally build up that other woman, who I didn't really like and found a bit annoying to deal with.

Oh yes I had this once, after pulling the darkspawn way down below to the fighters at the top. I restarted the event and did it the right way (which was a bit harder) and it worked. I thought it glitched because I was not doing it the way I was supposed to.

But you get it everytime you attempt it then? Reload save and try again?

what's redfield?

Redcliff at the castle gates then? The boss ogre spawns in my game.
Maybe reload an earlier save?

I just generally cannot stand games with stun effects, if I loose control of the protagonist, I don't feel like I'm playing a game at all, more like I'm watching a bloody movie.. and the movie generally blows...

I invested very heavily on this game, played in nightmare did everything talked to everyone i truly believed and expected Bioware to deliver on their promise of a return to the days of Baldur's Gate II.

They didn't. The story cant be anymore clichéd, its embarrassing, not to mention the plot-canyon that is the whole idea that touching darkspawn blood can be fatal and turns people into one of them unless they become Grey Wardens. Yeah, that really makes sense, when you get all your able bodied man and women to fight them and have darskpawn blood spurt into their faces all day log.

I wont even say anything about turning Whynne into a Blood mage or the fact that Alistair would kill any blood mage on sight but is A-OK with you sacrificing elven slaves in a blood mage ritual to increase your HP bar. And that Golem character? F*cking christ, all i want of agolem is for him to be big and mean, imposing and such, instead i get a xenophobic pre-school philosopher who just won't shut the hell up!

So first you complain because of the cliché, and then complain because they didn't pull off a cliché?

No pleasing some people is there?

No i complained that they didn't pull off a cliché, in a very annoying way.
If at least the golem was an interesting radical thinker or had a nihilistic point of view like the robot from the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. It would be fine and could even be good. This has been done before, the assassin robot in KotoR was fun but this time they tried and failed.

As it turned out, it was such an obnoxious character i would have preferred if the golem was mute, and communicated through grunts.

I even say this character is worse than the Gnome Bard in Neverwinter Nights 2, hes extremely annoying and useless but at least you didn't expect anything from him, whereas when you see a Golem character you want him to be awesome.

So in other words "I'm fine with people playing clichéd ideas repeatedly as long as I personally like those clichés, but if I don't like those clichés then I HATE THEM USING IT."

Glad to see we cleared that up.

Make a new character/make the same one again - play through the game again and save just before the dodgey part.

Whilst this may be extra effort; you can play the game in a different way AND unless you do it, you've wasted your money.

I had a similar issue with a "boss fight" while playing Neverwinter Nights 2. Fortunately for me, reloading and trying again allowed me to actually trigger the cutscene. Cutscenes seem to "break" too easily during these days of advanced graphics. It's why I save liberally and in many different slots.

God forbid you start a new game and see if it works the second time right?

That really sucks. I didn't see that happen in either of mu full playthroughs. Hopefully you can get it resolved somehow.

I actually liked that about dragon Age. Hard choices are meant to be hard. Or put it this way, how important is your integrity to you? Going through as the human noble, he'd caused me enough harm that I didn't hesitate. He wasn't getting a second chance from me.

My pious elf will see things differently.
