Before Inquisition there was a game Greg Tito loved.... [sub](me too!)[/sub]
And before that there was Dragon Age: Origins

And it's free on Origin right now
https://www.origin.com/en-gb/store/free-games/on-the-house

Now don't say I never give you anything!

Before anyone else says it:

"That is awesome, too bad I can't because of Origin. Origin is evil, blah blah blah."

Okay now that that is out of the way... Dragon Age: Origins is awesome in my opinion and I heartily recommend it too everyone (however I recommend getting graphics mods for it, as it is a straight up ugly game). However, I feel the need to point out that this doesn't include DLC with it, so you won't be getting Awakening with it. Still a good game, just thought everyone should know.

The more and more games Origin releases, the more I'm warming up to them. Their library isn't impressive and they're no Steam, but I'm not complaining about free games every month.

If I like it I'm more than likely to end up buying the ultimate edition on steam since I'm sure the ultimate edition on sale on steam is cheaper than buying all of the DLC on Origin.

Ninja'd. The last time Ultimate Edition was on Steam sale it was less than $5. The DLC is too much to ignore. I don't think I could enjoy DA: Origin without it. And Steam is also a lot more convenient than Origin.

I gotta hand it to EA theyre trying to compete with the other digital distribution platforms and thats good. Problem is the best way to compete with them to make your service actually better. Origin still has to many issues that are consumer unfriendly or just plain dont work when they should.

Anyway, I still have my retail copy of DA:O so Im not interested but for the other people out there DA:O is a great game if you like a character driven RPG where your choices actually matter (DLC is kind of hit or miss though and all of that is overpriced IMO). If you havnt played it I recommend you pick it up and try to tolerate origin (wow I feel dirty saying that)

IMO Good DLCs are: Shale the golem which i think is called stone prisoner, Soldiers peak, and return to ostragar. I think the others are mediocre

Gonna take advantage of this, and when I put more cash on my Steam account I'll get the Ultimate Edition. As much as I hate EA I will take advantage of a free game.

Well that's a pretty good on the house deal. Sadly, I can't really take advantage of it because I already have the Ultimate Edition on Steam.

It's in the top 10 RPGs of all time. Why would you not download it free if you don't already have it. It would have been better if they didn't mess up the sequel because DA:O came out the same time as ME and DA was a superior game with better companions and better features and story. I keep Origin on my computer just so I can get free games.

EDIT: Let's all just agree that DA2 isn't a DA game.... it's a totally different unrelated game that just coincidentally took place in the DA universe.... so for it was, it wasn't bad.... it just wasnt a DA game

It seems like a nice deal But I already bought the Ultimate Edition on stream while it was on sale quite a while ago. I would say If you have not played Dragon Age: Origins then it is worth playing. It's by no means even close to being perfect but I like the game overall.

This going by my personal taste of enjoying greatly games that offer the ability to roleplay in some kind of meaningful way while not having shit writing.

While I loathe using Origin (terrible storefront), those "on the house" deals are really good. The sales aren't bad either. You could get the Mass Effect Trilogy for under 10 euro in a recent one.

But take note people. They use "Bioware points" as payment for DLCs and they (both the points and DLC) never seem to go on sale. Total price for JUST story DLC for ME trilogy is ?60. It's actually ?54, but Bioware points only come in packs of 800, 1200 and 1600 (?8, ?12 and ?16 respectively) meaning you have to spend ?6 more then the DLC is valued at, just to get enough points.

I recommend avoiding any skin packs or weapon packs, as the cumulative price is well into the hundreds. If you aren't planning on doing a full playtrough, then just skip them altogether. Some of the DLC quests are really good, but paying 8 quid for 4 hours of extra content is a bit much, especially when said content is between 2 and 5 years old.

That's quite a deal but alas, I already have the Ultimate edition for PS3.

On a related point, does anyone know how any cannon discontinuities between Origins and 2 are going to be handled for Inquisition? I know that the Keep system is supposed to allow you to import saves over console generations, something I would like to take advantage of, but I've *also* heard that 2 retconned certain things from the original (chief example I believe being that the Andrastian Urn thang and Leliana survive regardless of how heretical you were).

Now I would like to play 2 and do another grand Bioware trilogy playthrough....but I've heard a lot of horror stories about the sequel.

As far as I know, the only truly retconned thing between the two games is Leliana's survival, and they have hinted that that will have an explanation. Other than that, DA2 only contradicts the epilogue slides of DAO and DAA, which apparently are to be taken more as rumours of what happens than fact anyway, so those things are not set in stone and can alter. So from what they're saying, on the whole inconsistencies between the games should not be a problem.

Care to recommend some graphical mods?

Origin provides better service than steam. for example steam is the only online retailer that does not have a return policy. its costumer support also is miles better than steam. i agree that it lacks a lot of features that steam has, but as far as their service goes - its fantastic.

True but last I heard origin still has connectivity issues for multiplayer and abyssmal customer service (their answer is always to reinstall the service and not address their shoddy servers).

They also dont offer refunds on non-EA products.

Don't get me wrong, theyre trying to compete with steam and theyre doing a lot of things right but at this moment its not really enough to compete with steam and they are lightyears behind GoG

I've never understood the complaints about the graphics to be honest.

I'm currently on another run with a female human noble with the intent of romancing Alistair and becoming queen.

Personally I think the game looks pretty damn good for its age, a little basic in some areas to be sure but in others the views can be breathtaking.

I did try the white teeth mod but I couldn't keep on it, for some reason my eyes just kept getting drawn toward the teeth before anything else going on in the scene.

Mods wise I do have a few installed. 'Dragon Age: Redesigned' for Leliana version 11 with the pretty version of Zevran. 'Improved Atmosphere' gives a little more life to the places you visit.

Also on there are 'Dialogue Tweaks', 'Morrigan Restoration Patch', and 'Zevran Dialogue Fix.' There is a fair amount of dialogue that can be added back in with these.

'Tucked hair' is another mod I use because I like hair tucked behind the ears on woman.

I also have 'Skip the Fade' installed, the section is fun the first time but quickly loses its charm on replays. There is another mod for the fade which unlocks all the forms from the start but I'd rather just get to my companions dreams as soon as I can.

Another skip mod that can be handy for replays is 'Skip Ostagar' which kicks in when you finish the origin story. You get the option to go straight to Lothering with Alistair and Morrigan or play Ostagar as normal.

'Extra Dog Slot' is another good one so you can bring Dog along all the time, though disable it on the Fort Drakon rescue or things will be messed up. Also you will miss out on party banter for the Dog, as the game will see him as a summon.

I have the 'Natural Bodies all in one' mod installed because it makes the love scenes far more interesting, and can get you a hilarious screen shot in one mission.

Got to head back to work, so I'll visit again later.

Edit: A quick warning before I go. Never install the 'Sexualised Ogre' mod. It is a sight that can never be unseen.

Ah, Origins. I loved the game. Except the "sex" scenes. I installed a mod that replaced them with Youtube Poop videos; then game ended up perfect.

It looks like EA is actually trying to get some shit done instead of fumbling around, and somehow still making money. Even so, Origin is still far too uncooperative and un-user friendly to be recommended.

It's cute that they're trying, though.
