The AI is what ticks me off most about this game. The party members willfully and gleefully run and sit in the middle of the AoEs I use to block the enemy off or quickly cut their HP down, but the enemy does the smart thing by running out of it and trying to stay out of it.

Oh yeah, and the archery specilisations. I have got more than a few characters maxxed for archery, but I am still no where near as powerful or effective as the enemy archers. And whats with the enemy mages seemingly infinite supply of mana?

And yet Scattershot has such an amazing punchline....

Here's a hint for those who think their archers' AIs are gimped: Switch their tactics to the Archer tactic, and include one that autoswitches them to their ranged weapon. And stop sticking them in heavy or massive armor! That gimps them!

I had Lel as an archer-rogue the entire game, focused on her ranged talents and her mastery of unlocking, and she was a beast. Scattershot that does AoE damage, no friendly fire, AND stuns for a decent duration? Her autoattack did very good DPS, so who cares if she has some other abilities, she's on AI anyways! Gave her ranger so she could toss out a bear, she was doing DPS comparable to my main who was a 2-hander beast of damage.

Let's see, archers get one AoE stun, and a slew of abilities that are damage+debuff. Two-handers are an AoE stun, and a slew of abilities that are damage+debuff. I don't get how archers are gimp... maybe you're just not doin' it right.

Take your party members off of independant movement when you're setting up ambushes. I know this because the game told me to do this in them loading screens.

Have you tried using the afformentioned AoEs on said ranged enemies? They have a tendancy to form distinct groups--AoE mezzes work wonders on archers each and every time.

As for mages, that's what your templar specs and your mana drains are for. Any enemy you can do almost 1000 points of damage to with a single cheap spell is not that big a deal.

The answer to both these problems is very simple: Mezz moar. Mezzes win combats in DA:O.

Not talking about ambushes, was refering to general combat against large groups

Then set up your tactics so that they're attacking and targetting the same foe your tank is.

It's not hard.

OP: Exactly how is Baldur's Gate any different? While it does have a greater variety of monsters the fights are just as frequent.

Here's the thing your not getting, I set my tank to hold the melee mobs while the ranged take out their archers and mages, but the moment I set up the AoEs the tank forgets what he is doing and charges the archers even if I don't have his tactics setup that way.

Do you use Enemy: Any, or Enemy: Nearest? Makes a difference with the tank.

Also, if you have an Enemy: Targetting Wynne tactic up, she might have pulled that agro and that tactic triggered.

Also, enemy could have just agroed the tank. Do you have an Enemy: Nearest > Attack set up in there?

Tanks should all have Combat Tactics skill maxed out unless they are player controlled.

Why do some RPG designers feel the need to make you go through fight after fight of the same fucking goddamned enemies?
Wow, man, think what it would be like if other genres of games made you do that! Oh, wait...

Also its worth getting thew DLc, Shale is the most awsome character you can get and retaking the keep has a lot of back story plot to it... and since the game without any dlc is 20gig i don't think they could have supplied it with the game.
Given that Shale and the Blood Dragon Armor DLC is Free until april... I'd say it's very much worth it.

The only paid DLC that they've had so far was the Warden's Keep, the rest has all been -free-...

...if you bothered to pay for the game.
Yes I did pay for the game. Also thanks for bringing up the Dragon armour, cause i have to say summin about that... What a pile of shite. not only does it look awful the stats are crap... I mean, it would be a good suit of armour if 1, it didn't cost as much and 2, was usable from a lower level. Cuase by the time u can use it better gear is dropping from mobs and is purcasable from vendors.

as I said b4, wardens keep is worth it and the upcomming retern to ostigar look promising as well.

There is the fact that some of the content, in particular the golem (who was basically HK-47 in stone), was cut in order to bilk money out of the people who would do the right thing and buy the game, as opposed to those who pirate it.
Except that Stone Prisoner is given away free with the game purchase?
On Xbox360, the Stone Prisoner was an extra only if you paid the extra money for the limited edition.
The last line is a lie. I got SP and got an off the shelf regualr edition.

Until you've played an MMO for years coming out in the end with nothing to show except a bunch of epic gear that just got obsoleted in the last patch...you don't know jack...0o

I love the story of Dragon Age, and I really wanted to like the whole package.

But after Mass Effect's wonderful, lovely combat system (perfect blend of shooter and power wheel) and its fully voiced main characters, Dragon Age felt like one step forward and at least three steps back.

I've never wanted to skip combat in a game before. Dragon Age combat was a bit entertaining until I realized I did the same routine for most, if not all, enemies. It was like playing a D&D session where the GM just throws loads of bland orcs after you and hides his mechanical incompetence with lovely description.

Sorry, BioWare. Mass Effect 2 oughta be good, at least.

Yes. Do not listen to Cuddly tomato. SP is free if you buy the game UNUSED.

The Escapist had an NewsRoom thing on it. Bioware wanted to give extra to those who bought the game NEW.

Fact Check guys.
