grandpa gohan was already dead in the original, only floating around as a ghost for awhile, apparently he's still alive in the movie which once again takes away from the original story.

There have always been flashbacks to Grandpa Gohan in the what you're calling original story...but it's not really original at all. >_>
I blame "Journey To The West".

Even though I think DBZ is crap, I enjoyed it when I was 13, and I appreciate that 13-year-olds will enjoy it. However, I also think that 13-year-olds are likely to be offended by such radical changes from the original source material. However, I understand that they're all going to go watch it anyway, and that it will therefore be profitable, and that is, of course, the studios' main goal.

But this isn't DBZ. Also, why didn't Goku ever see Grandpa Gohan when he was in Heaven or whatever you wanna call it?

Ok well first of all i found out that this film was goner be about piccolo vs goku very cool but then i found out that goku in the film is leaving HIGH SCHOOL ok on that note alone i was pissed i mean goku never went to school he lived in the mountains and traind all day

this is a complete remake of dragonball lore in my opinion and at best it mite be as good as transformers because they did it in that film by changing the story allot but it worked rely well

This is pretty much entirely my point. It doesn't matter to the producers any more than it does to me which series it's based on, but people like you are going to get angry about it, and since you're the target audience for the movie, that makes it a bad idea.

I'm sure I'm going to make good friends with this statement but hell... here goes.

Stop complaining you stuck up Bastards/Bitches.

Just because it isn't going to stand up to your exact idea of who should be making it and who should be in it, doesn't mean you should complain. Don't like it? Don't watch it.

I am a DB/DBZ/DBGT fan. I'm sorry but I get a little tired of people complaining all the time. Stop thinking you'll be cool if you act like "Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw".

"The character started out looking young and beautiful. I went to the make-up artist and said, ?The producers want the character to be beautiful, but the producers ain?t here. And we?re going to put back with paint what they took away with the sculpt [prosthetics make-up].? The director agreed with me. I would rather have been fired than mess up Piccolo."
-James Marsters (piccolo)

You messed it up right there!

The whole goku is a teenager and piccolo is white actually got me thinking.. Maybe this isn't about (the original) Dragonball.
Maybe this is the mythical Dragonball AF that fans have been waiting for (I know this from my sister, a major DB fan) but they are just covering it up since GT ended with a kid goku maybe now this is about him.

Sorry if this sounds contrived but it's my brain's natural defense mechanism to finding sense in what could be a colossal waste of funds.
Then again most(scratch that, all) live action adaptations of animes tend to fail horrendously and have yet to find one that didn't. Either way, I doubt the director would pull a move like that.

But still, I'll look for a few reviews, see if it'll be worth my time then watch it.
Wether it will bring the fanboy out of me again(I was one.. now no longer), only time will tell

I don't think anyone is trying to be like Yahtzee here, and I don't think its fair to say we're being stuck up. We're simply voicing our collective opinions that this movie is likely to be shit, and that they've fucked over the interlectual property of DragonBall.

I can accept that they'd take the big of the story with King Piccolo, and don't mind that they might make Goku a bit older then he actually was when fighting him. But changing fundamental things such as having Piccolo white. Its like the crap they pulled changing half the vehcles for transformers (Tho that wasnt their fault for the most part, VW wouldnt play game, and optimus prime needed to be "big").

We're not trying to be "cool" (hell, we're talking about an anime series to live movie on internet forums about computer games... cool should never be used here!) just talking about something we like. Feel free to join the debate, no ones on your side yet, so could enhance it, but don't just start trolling and whining about how we're lame. Tells us why it wont be utter crap.

^^ Agrees with above statement.

Plenty of us have already stated why we aren't looking forward to it, not just because Piccolo is white.

It's not a case of me not being happy with the exact members of cast and crew but that fact there is a cast an crew.

The DB/DBZ/DBGT universe spans hundreds of hours worth of watching and there is REALLY no need what so ever for a live action film. Well, apart from entertaining the morons who can't pay attention to something, unless is has real people in it. (that mentality of Anime=Kids Stuff, obviously)

Sequels and remakes etc. are supposed to be something for the fans and it seems that their progression check list avoids all actual fan pleasing.

To me, it's ALL about the new audiences and that's what they care about.

If they'd just made a film based on the 1500's tale 'Journey to the West' then that would be one thing, but it's digging up DragonBall, sticking a dick in it's ear and then telling it to make some new friends for them.

I'm not going to the cinema to watch it, but they're NOT going to stop making shitty sequels and remakes of things I love just because I haven't been to the cinema for 3 years. They're going to KEEP making them because there are just enough stupid people who'll go and check out DB Live because of the bright shiny colours, or for Marsters, or for the man-woman playing Goku or just turning up to the film because the TV/radio/internet told them to.

So yeah, I have a right to kick up a fuss thank you. People who don't, and just stick their thumb up their ass and accept everything with a smile on their face are to blame for crap like this.

Well I'm just so tired of people always saying everything is going to be horrible/terrible/crap so on and so forth.

No... maybe it's not the same people that say it about everything, I mean everyone likes something but all I seem to hear is how bad stuff is.

I have a very open mind. I liked and own the Dungeon & Dragon's movies and others like DOOM the movie. All I ever heard from anyone else I ever talked to was... "That was so horrible, I hated that. It was utter crap.".

I own them and I like them... were they great movies? No! But I just get tired of all I hear is complaining. Sorry. I shouldn't get on people for how they feel but I wish everyone wasn't a critic.

Okay just stop. If you don't like it... don't watch it. They won't get your money. I get sick of people bitching. Just keep your ass out of the cinema then. I mean how does it bother you then? Does it destroy the real DB/DBZ/DBGT? No? You mean the real DragonBall Z will still be out on DVD and on Tunami every once in a while... well hell... I don't think they hurt you in any way so just shut up about it.

Like I said... I like a lot of stuff... I think you could say I like more then I dislike.

How does it effect you if you:
1.) Don't go see it?
2.) Don't give them any of your money?

Explain that and if you have a good reason why it still effects you then I'll understand.

No BS about how it effects you because you don't want them to make it or it effects you by its very existance. If so grow up and act mature.

Firstly, read my post, you know, the post you quoted. It states that I don't go to the cinema anymore in protest.

Secondly, DB is something that I am a huge fan of, have been since I was a child, and spent hundreds if not thousands of pounds on various types of merchandise over the years. Obviously I'm rather committed to this so I should naturally be interested in anything else they decide to do, seeing as I'm the target audience.......so you'd think.

I always assumed that the benefits of being a fan of something and sticking by it for well over a decade would be that I'd be rewarded with continuing CREATIVITY. Not cheap-ass cop-out, live action Hollywood bollocks.

But you're obviously right, it has nothing to do with me or people in the same boat.

Ultimately, just because you're able to see everything as being either good or non-existent, it doesn't mean everyone else will follow suit and bury their head in the sand until something good comes along. If someone pisses all over something that you liked, you should say something about it if you dislike it.

I can't wait to see this series piss itself like an old labrador, mainly because i hated Dragonball. Not Dragonball Z,just Dragonball.Vegeta isn't in it.

The main problem with this film is that the characters (mainly Goku) are so unique in looks, voice and personality that it is physically impossible for anyone on this planet to replicate them (especially Goku....).

Also,Krillin was in the Dragonball series right? Why is ther no appearence of him mentioned in the film? Because nobody on this planet(or mars) looks like him.

I agree with that dude, and I don't expect them to be able to find people that look just like animated characters. But why didn't this thought come into their heads, instead of getting white make up for James Marster's face, why not use, you know, green make-up instead?

This is a simple (yet stupid) mistake with an even simpler solution. If they are willing to settle for this to simplify it, imagine what else they'll bastardize.

Maybe they'll get Iron Man to have a guest appearence (HAR HAR HAR).

I bet when a trailer comes out they will start using Jet Li as the best excuse to promote the film.

I reckon they'll say "Dragonball(s)" in the most epic fashion about 20 times in a minute long trailer. Like the English translated DBZ "theme".

DRAGON.....BALL......blah blah blah.......DRA.....GON......BALL........blah blah blah......7....DRAGON......BALLS......blah blah blah......(etc.)

James Marsters - Lord Piccolo
Character Description - An ancient being who despite his humanoid appearance, is from an alien race determined to take over the world. Piccolo is the cursed ruler of a demonic race who nearly destroyed Earth 2000 years ago, and with the coming of the eclipse and the possession of all seven Dragon Balls, he?s prepared to free himself and do the job right this time. Crafty and smart, Piccolo has some disturbing news for Goku, namely that the boy is actually a Saiyan who?s destined to join Piccolo as his right hand in destroying and enslaving the planet.
I think they want to imply that piccolo is a saiyan....
Sweet dear zombie jesus.

Oh, no...its getting closer isn't it? >.< I loved the Dragon Ball/Z and such series...had posters of it and everything....

Maybe it will be good, maybe it will shock us and fill us with awe with its awesomeness.

Or maybe it will suck so bad that I will laugh in psychotic sadness (more likely). I'm not having a negative outlook on things, just gazing over the evidence. I wanted to see a Dragon Ball movie when I was younger, I really did. But I know I would've hated to see one where Piccolo is not that lovely shade of green.

I'll probably end up watching it anyway because I'm that sort of girl. My bros will most likely come along as well. I'm sure Alex will have somethings to say after its done...

Edited for: 'it's becoming 'I's
