Fret wankery.

Occasionally catchy fret wankery, but fret wankery none the less.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't all metal essentially fret wankery? It was my impression that this was part of the attraction.
Listen to the black album by Metallica and think again. Dragonforce are great, although silly and I really wish they hadn't been on Guitar Hero. And I think they can play their songs. Many, many people can play faster.
I didn't think you could compare DF and Metallica. One is playing fast for the sake of playing fast. The other is playing fast because "I'm a fucking badass and Napster sucks."

What I'm trying to say is that the musical styles are different.

EDIT: On reflection maybe you CAN compare them seeing as how I just did.
Well, you said metal as a genre.

The Black Album? That's where you're going to show Metallica's mastery of metal? How old are you, Sally?

That being said, I do listen to Dragonforce, but the same way I listen to Type O Negative, with a sense of humor.

Dragonforce: unable to play live.

Look around YouTube, there's absolutely tons of videos comparing their live and studio performances.

Also, it's really not that hard to play as fast as that guitarist does. You just hold a shape and pick really fast. He misses half the notes he plays anyway.

Saw them live, wasn't mimed because they wouldn't have screwed up so much if it was pre-recorded. I actually got bored while watching them though. Everything sounded identical and their set was far too long.

If you want a power-metal band as fast as Dragonforce but are actually good live, Check out Japanese Power Metal band Galneryus.

They honestly kickass.

Well other than Load, Reload or St. Anger any Metallica album. The Black album just happens to be the firat one I thought of.

it's hard to memorize that many songs that are that long and such which is why live show quality sucks. but i enjoy their music myself.

The problem with Dragonforce is that they have a -lot- of talent.
They do...?

They seem like another generic speed metal band to me, with an egocentric guitarist and all.

I believe he was referring to their magnum opus Master of Puppets.

Otherwise... I -really- like their stuff. Its unique.
The drummer has talent. The other guys....not really.

Are a silly band that make silly music with silly lyrics about fairly silly topics.

...though once you accept the silly they're fairly fun to listen too.
And in the end, that's all there is to it, and all there should be to it.

People shouldn't judge them by youtube videos. I saw them live last year and they were pretty good. All the videos we saw of them from the same concert sucked. So don't bash them if all you've seen of them is some stupid video.

I saw them live twice. They sucked both times. I have also watched some live versions from different concerts and they sucked too.

What more do you want?

I'm sorry to say this, but you all suck. I have seen them twice live. They rocked both times. They can play their songs, good sirs. I know this from experience. They are mental and insane and so much fun to watch, you can jump around like a lunatic and wear a samari headband without looking out of place. Their lyrics are good old fashioned, irrevalent fun. I am not a huge fan of protset music, as I can get depressed by watching the news. Music is my fun time. Bring me tales of dragons and epic heroes, with silly guitar solos. I enjoy that, I really do. Also, popularity is a good thing, because it means less people will rag on me when I put on their record. I'm not posting a video because no video can do it justice. Youtube videos=crappy sound and video. Why the hate, I don't know. Maybe you refuse to listen to them because they are popular and you want to be different. You know, like everyone else. And don't go stomping on my parade and yelling fanboy. Those of you with that thought flashing through your mind can frack right off. This is my opinion, I like them, and this is why. Good to give the other side of the argument. Everyone else seems adverse to this.

i saw them live, and they definitely do not mime their songs because i heard them alter their songs, and make mistakes at times. your friend is just jealous of their awesome godlike power

RE: "They only suck live cos they are drunk of their tits"

That only makes me lose even more respect for them. Kids, getting drunk on stage isn't cool, it makes you look very very foolish.

Seen 'em live twice (once as a part of the Inhuman Rampage tour, once at Download),

They were good live - no noticable mistakes (apart from the singer neeting about 9lr of water every song), the music was pretty much studio-quality (my only gripe was they got the balance of the insturments wrong for the accustics of the venue, and at times all the guitar playing caused the sound systems to sorta pack-in) and, above all, they had the best, funniest mosh pits and crowd participation of any gig I;ve been to.

I think they're the "cool" thing to "hate". People tend to give you a lot of stick for likeing them in public, then admit to liking them later on when no-one else is around to hear.

Maybe one or two gigs sucked, maybe I got lucky and saw 2 good gigs - either way, they can play some good gigs, so don't suck live 100% of the time like some say - personally, I think that now they've developed a haibt of playing live they are better performers than a year or two ago, but they're not a bad band.
