I have my dramatic "NOOOOO" moments with Pokemon games. Usually when I have put in 500+ hours into one of them, gotten all the way through it, caught most of the pokemon and leveled a lot of them too lvl 100 and then I load it up to play only to have it say to my face. "the data is corrupted" a few seconds later my save has been lost.
"NOOOOOOOOOO"
Same thing happened to me with Crystal. Except, I found out later that it wasn't corrupt. The thing's internal battery had ran out. And that's when I broke and decided to use emulators.
I'll add to the corrupt save game list too.
Just when I thought my days of corrupt save game data were over, I played Fallout 3. A game that can easily suck your life away. I usually keep two saves, alternating between overwriting each one as I go. I tend to save every couple of minutes as well, you never know what's waiting for you in the Capital wasteland.
I was playing as a character I was particularly proud of, around level 20 or just under. I had Fawkes and Dogmeat with me and was happily exploring the wasteland until I got to Fort Constantine... and stupidly saved twice inside after battling some particularly trigger happy robots. The game crashed and both saves, including the auto, would never boot again.
I litterally wailed NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! There were almost tears as well, but... I was strong...
EDIT: The NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! moment also applies for every time Mozilla Firefox crashes in the middle of a forum post, which seems to be every bloody five minutes! RAGE!
