Well I'm not American so I can't name you too many Beers (that will be available where you live) except Corona and Heineken - both are good. Spirits though, I like my Jim Beam, but really I'm a scotch man. Johnny Walker; Red if you're cheap/want to mix, Black or Higher if you have refined taste. Please don't mix those. For the love of God DO NOT mix those.

Just a warning to everyone else, don't buy Jhonny Walker Red Label if you value your taste buds. I bought it once to mix with cola, the cola was wasted on the whiskey.

For me i tend to drink Cider, i love Magners and Bulmers, can't go wrong with them, also a bit of Stout in Guinness is good, Bitter: Tetleys is also good.Beer wise i tedn to enjoy a bottle of Coors here and there, and Carling, Carlsberg. Also you can't go wrong with a glass of Red Wine, I found a very nice red Wine the other day i think it was called Shiraz, give it a try.

My dad drinks Asahi Super Dry. Can't tell you if it's any good but I know plenty of people drink it when we have company over.

Be an American and constantly have a handle of Jack at your side.
Haha. I really think I am about the only one who thinks as far as 80 proof whiskeys are concerned that Jim Beam > Jack Daniels in terms of flavor.
No, I agree. However the Gentleman Jack or the Single Barrel is very good.

I like Whiskey, Islay. Isle of Jura and Laphroaig. Very smoky taste yet delightful. However Highland Single Malts are good too. The 18 year Glenfiddich is heavenly.

In short, try single malt scotch, with a good age on it (15+) expensive but excellent.

Get yourself some good micro-brewery beer. Drinking to get drunk is over rated and stupid. Find a good quality drink you enjoy a lot and enjoy it a lot. If you aren't sure of what sort of drink you like then sample some reasonably priced drinks. Once you have decided what you like buy better quality drinks and you won't be disappointed.

Never drink low quality beer. Never EVER drink low quality liquor. You won't be doing yourself any favors.

As far as beers go, I'm partial to Heineken and Stella Artois, because that's what we always have at family gatherings.

If you want to get into liquors, make friends with a good bartender, and have them make you their best drinks, without telling you what's in them first. So many times have I heard people turn down drinks that they later enjoyed because they were told that "such and such" liquor was in it.

Good liquor is like a good meal: it may cost a little more, but it's a helluva lot more satisfying.
Truer words were never spoken. Also keeps you from going overboard when you know that those 10 drinks won't come cheap.

[...]if not that then try Fosters.
What, are you trying to kill him? Or just ensure that he never wants to touch beer again?

To the OP: Preferred drinks are such a variable thing from person to person (aside from the swill that most people can agree is ditchwater, like the abovementioned Foster's, or similar rubbish like Bud) that's it's hard to recommend something. Just try something different each time you have a drink and you'll soon get an idea of what you like and can go looking for similar things. And drink in moderation, don't binge-drink. No matter what some people say, vomiting is never cool, nor is making a complete dick of yourself. And liver cancer is especially never cool.

My own preference is for Belgian, German and Czech beers, high-end gin and vodka, and port. And with spirits you can generally taste the price difference quite clearly - low-priced spirits usually taste like rocket fuel.
He'll be fine! I mean hey, I could've suggested Stella ;P

Most people also color their hair blonde - and most people did not start drinking because it tastes good.
Peer pressure as a product of the social norm? Maybe but that doesn't change most people like it, the intoxication and the taste.

And if he was limited by age and only recently started drinking legally it certainly wasn't peer pressure, otherwise he would have started before.

Rolling Rock! It's a very pale beer but it has excellent flavor. It goes GREAT with food too. Also try Olde English malt liquor. The 40's are cheap. And effective ;) haha

And one whisky everyone needs to try once is Campbell & Cooper's. It's quite harsh and I didn't care for the taste much, but it just felt... right haha. However, my favorite brands of whisky are Seagram's and Jack Daniel's.

Try everything though! Haha it might sound weird, but try keeping a journal/log of what you like and don't like.
