My advice, dont drink just because you can. Unfortunatly, its apparently more weird to NOT drink alchohal than to, which is sad and pathetic. But that doesnt mean you have to drink. If you actually like alchohal, then fine, but dont over do it then.
Drinking and getting drunk are two different things. Also it's better to learn ones limits than not to learn them.
I know, but I personally dont drink alchohal EVER. I choose not to (plus it tastes like shit). But surprisingly, I find people expect everyone to atleast drink it sometimes, and some even view people who dont drink so negatively, that it disgusts me. Plus, my dad's side of the family all are very stereotypically Irish, and I often am pressued to drink with them, despite how much I decline.

Or you could come to Australia and drink REAL beer. I'm always mystified by why American beer is so light. A light beer here is 3.5% ish a regular can be anywhere from 5-6.5% and they taste infinitely better.

Ok just to dismiss the American beer "myth", their microbreweries make some of the best beer in the world. Given their larger brands (cept Samual Adams and Sierra Navada) are mainly poop and taste like water with alcohol.

I think I can recommend a fairly decent assortment of items:

Beer: Guinness or any hefeweizen or it's dark cousin dunkelweize

Vodka: Monopolowa is very smooth and tastes great, it's also quite cheap for a spirit. Also it's actually made from potatoes, unlike most big name stuff.

Whiskey: I haven't had much but I do recommend either Jameson or Bushmills.

Bourbon: Maker's Mark, smells of honey and has a slight vanilla after-taste.

Liqueur: They're all good in my book, but if I had to choose just one, Frangelico all the way.

Gin: Bombay

Tequila: Jose Cuervo Especial, sweet with a slight afer-taste of spice.

Other: Hard cider is a must try in my book, strongbow being the best. Mead is also a great thing to have around, especially around the holidays, goes great with any feast.

Wine: I rarely drink it and know nearly nothing about it, but I do recommend trying to find a good Spätlese.

I honestly just prefer vodka because you can hardly taste it, going to be trying a lot more when I turn 18 in May.

If you live in the states there's no difference between beer and a case of water. Try mixes until you find something you like, also rum is always good.

Visited a liquor store for the first time today. Was completely overwhelmed by the selection. Now I'm new to drinking, so I really don't know what I like yet, so I just bought a four pack of Pabst blue Ribbon because it was 3.50 and I heard good things about it. Please, give me your suggestions for what alcohol I should buy upon my next trip. Though any input is good, beer suggestions are most appreciated.
P.S. I know I FUCKING hate Bud Light, so one of that.
for beer, get firestone or blue moon.

For beer I would definitely recommend checking out what the microbreweries in your area have to offer. The big American brands are indeed shit, but their local labels really do have some great stuff. Also Guiness. Guiness is awesome.

I have no idea if you could find it where you are but Unibroue of Chambly, Quebec makes some great beers. I would recommend their "La Fin du Monde" which is triple fermented (it's 9% alcohol, high for a beer) and tastes great. A little bit spicy.

As for the harder stuff I don't care for Gin myself, tastes like Pine-Sol smells to me. Vodka is alright but I do tend to find it a bit harsh. Rum is great and its sweetness makes it mix well, rum is about the only thing I'll mix. But a good whiskey is a fantastic thing. Jacks is my personal favourite for an affordable brand, but nothing beats a good scotch. Glenfiddich or a Talisker are two labels I'd recommend.

And to anyone who says that you shouldn't try to drink whiskey etc. just to be 'manly' I just want to assure you that many of us truly do enjoy the flavour. I can think of no greater sin than drinking a scotch mixed with something. I like my beer cold and my liquor neat thank you very much ;)

Wine can be great too. It is after all one of humanity's oldest and most cherished drinks (if not the oldest). I have always found wine to lead to a happier more sociable sort of drunkenness too, which can often be a perk.

Personally I tend to prefer reds, more of a rounded fruity flavour to them and they pair well with meats. The price of wine really does make a difference though. You can get some very nice affordable wines it's true, but stay the hell away from anything in the ten dollar range.

How will we know what you like?

You should just try a little of everything when you get the opportunity and bear in mind that some brands are just awful and shouldn't be used to judge an entire type of booze.

Personally, I like:

-White rum. Bacardi is good, but a lot of cheap white rums are good too- just steer clear of Havana Club because it really does taste like paint stripper. Take a slice of lime instead of lemon too.
-Lager. I like Stella Artois, Kronenbourg and Carlsberg Export- don't drink normal Carlsberg.
-Ales. Look for local breweries.
-Wine. Chardonnay and Claret are easy-drinkers. A lot of Hungarian vineyards do good wines that tend to be cheap.

What makes you think that there aren't others whom judged him on his life choice to not drink originaly?
Pretty sure it's an age thing rather than anything else.
Most people enjoy drinking alcohol, because to most people it does taste good.

Glenfiddich 12yr old single malt. About $75-$100AUD. Great drop.
Wow that is expensive, we get them for like 50 AUD, when they are the most expensive (Denmark) and I know it's cheaper in Germany by around 20%.
