Well I did my first lot of driving in an abandoned field/wasteland with few if any obsticles, cars or people. That mad me feel a lot better when I finally drove on a road. Though I still panic at junctions now and again.

Driving a car always felt quite natural to me- but I grew up always looking forward to learning to drive. Admittedly yes the first time I sat behind the steering wheel I did feel nervous and never reached speeds of much above 20mph but that?s what it was like.

On top of that I was also training for my Private Pilots Aircraft license- the first time you take control of the aircraft from your instructor is properly scary. Despite the safety features and the fact that there is a trained instructor who can take control at any time it is still unnerving. And even now I?m half way through the course, doing all the flying myself and set to go solo soon there still remains that element of danger, that little voice in your head telling you that the plane might crash, engines going to fail etc. But when you?re behind the controls of a car/plane, whatever, you don?t have time to feel scared because there?s so much you?ve got to do- controlling the vehicle, checking speed, being aware of your surroundings. The worst thing you can do when you?re in that situation is be afraid of it- because that is when you make mistakes.

Every time I travel to the airfield I feel a lump of fear in the pit of my stomach, every time thinking that I could end up in an accident (Despite the fact that literally doing anything in life involves some degree of risk). But every time I get in the cockpit, I take the controls and fly and when I do it is so relaxing, very Zen, mostly because I simply don?t have time for fear because I?m so occupied with what I?m doing.

Your fear will pass with time- all you need is to experience and face your demons.

I like it. There are times when you feel insecure at the start but as soon as you get the hang of it you'll love it. I know I do. Driving is awesome!

Okay, i have an confession to make.

I'm 18 and today i tried my hand at driving for the first time. I don't think i have been that scared since i was a pre-teen. I felt so powerless. I didn't crash or anything, and the teacher told me i did alright but despite that i was mortified.

2 years ago i stood on a podium talking to 200 people, wasn't even 1/10th as scary as this was. Neither was the time i was chased by a large dog when im my mid-teens.

Was it this terrifying for anyone else? Admittedly the ground was quite icy and you had to manually change gears on the car, but still.....
If you live in Southern California, or anywhere near the I-15 around 6 AM, I know your pain.

I've been in a wreck (thankfully not my fault), and I have to admit, that shook me up pretty bad. I was able to brush it off 'cause no one was hurt really, but it still made me tense for quite awhile. I drive a lot more carefully now because of it.

If you are scared behind the wheel DO NOT DRIVE.
That is all.
everyone is scared their first time. don't just quit if you are scared after driving ONCE.

but still, I know how that feels. It just takes a lot of time before you are comfortable with your own skills. I started driving when I was 16, and I was probably scared for the first month or 2. Now i'm 19 and I have my license and driving has become fun.

What a pity, I loved every minute of learning to drive. Taking the engine to just under 2000 rpm, then finding biting point, it used to take me like 10 seconds to find biting point, now it's second nature. You'll grow to love it, you'll also grow to love the pain in your ankle you get from starting to drive.

im 18 as well and havent tried driving yet.

and getting chased by dogs is freaking scary. my family actually OWNED a dog that wanted to murder me, but they refused to get rid of it. every time i wanted to go swimming or jump on the trampoline, i had to look out for the dog, and take shortcuts out the windows and crap.

I didn't shit my pants but it was a little nerve wracking. You'll get over it.

My first opinions on driving were "oooo, fun."

After about 3 driving lessons, I could drive. I hate driving. So fucking much.

I enjoy being a passenger, but I can't say that I'm a fan of driving. It doesn't help that, in learning to drive, my mom thinks it's so helpful to yell at me when I do something wrong. It puts me on edge and only serves to make the situation worse.

I was rushed by my parents to get my full license before I came to university. I'll have you know I wasn't so much sh*tting bricks at the end of the first lesson but I DO hate driving and here's the reason why. All throughout driving I was deemed "The Top Dog", constantly having my teacher go, WOW you're so good at this and on some occasions he even brought along other students just to show what they needed to do to get better. Then the test day came and I remember being so scared but decided "eff it, you've done excellent so far so this can't be so bad", then when I stoppped at a red traffic light (as you're meant to) a lorry, and I'm not making this up, ploughed into the back of me and really dented the back of my teacher's car, all within 5 mins of the test. As soon as I got out the driver of said lorry (who looked like he ate concrete and shat bullets) claimed I was in the wrong because there was no indication that I was going to stop...BULLCRAP!!! DID HE EVER READ WHAT YOU'RE MEANT TO DO AT A RED LIGHT!?!

Anyway the test was deemed void and I got a free re-test, which I failed and then took a third time where I passed (go me), but that's besides the point. I am so scarred now just because of not me driving, but everyone else on the roads. If people crash into you on a red light which I gave plenty of warning that I was stopping (ya know, slowing down incrementally), then who knows what arse-holes are out there.

Point is, driving is scary, but only because everyone else is a dick. If no-one else drove while I was driving, I'd be a-ok with it...in fact I'd go so far to say I'd enjoy it!

The first time I drove on an open road, I was pretty intimidated by it. After a few months of practice though it isn't as bad. The scariest experience I've had driving though was when some idiot turned left on a red light while I had the right of way, and nearly rammed into the side of my dad's car.

Dude, I can totally relate. All I can say is with time it gets better. You get more confident and everything seems less scary. Remember sometimes being super cautious is a good thing.

Drive stick in a nice car with some decent power under the hood. You'll enjoy it a great deal when you let that baby roar. I know I do. Its just a shame I live in the city.

Well, I didn't actually drive in real-life traffic conditions, but driving a car in the countryside on the fairly shitty road wasn't particularly scary. I guess it's all traffic.

So instead I would like to contribute to mention how truly scary it is to be the passenger of a horrid driver.

You know. Like, totally made-up example here, when you're playing Gears 2 and your coop partner can't drive for crap?
Yes, it's especially bad when your driving suffers because your partner is so bad at shooting the locusts that it puts your steering off.
I didn't shoot at anyone. I fell victim to horrible driving. I DROWNED IN ICY WATER!

Uhh... I mean, hypothetically. All of this happened hypothetically.

Yeah.
Well, at least hypothetcially speaking you'd be past one of the most annoying parts of the game on insane mode.

I think sometimes I am the scary driver; at least when icy roads are involved. I am careful when driving in such conditions and all, but compared to many other drivers, I am much more casual about it. I have slipped over ice countless times before, not necessarily carelessly but I just kinda go with the flow when it happens.

Needless to say, I have become quite the ice-drifter in Colorado. xD

Driving is one of my favorite things ( in a good car anyway ), i was a bit nervous first time when i was driving in the city because i kept thinking how angry people would be if i dinted their car but it was all fine after a few hours. Riding motobikes my whole life also helped i suppose
