When it comes to medical use I say legalise as long as it have better effects then current medical drugs.

When it comes to personal use I say no, hell I'm even somewhat weakly for making tobacco illegal. Also my objections for legalising cannabis is as weak as how I feel about tobacco.

Legalise the lot, thereby allowing the whole supply chain and quality of the drugs to be regulated, sold and taxed.

WAIT A MINUTE!!! We do that already with cigaretes, alchohol and all pharmaceutical drugs! Not only would the cause of death (toxic additives) in illegal drugs be removed, thereby saving the health system lots of money it would reduce crime by not driving it underground.

Why don't people look at what happened during prohabition in America, it provided masses of money to crime syndicates and did little to anything to stop people drinking. Do people really think that the situation with other drugs is in ANY way different?

The key is to legalise, control, regulate and educate.

Personally I've tried Weed and Salvia, I smoke weed on a fairly regular basis (weekends when my friend is home from university) and In terms of health, well I've been smoking regularly for about 2 years now and as far as I know I'm fine mentally and physically. I wouldn't say I'm addicted, I've thought I'd quite like some a fair few times. Key words be "quite like" not NEED.

You CAN'T overdose on weed. I don't think it's physically possible to do so, you'd have to smoke a ridiculous amount in a ridiculously small time it just isn't happening. As for psychological issues. Well I've had none. I don't know of anyone who has. I've never even HEARD of anyone that has developed them through smoking weed nor have any of the user I know. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's bloody rare. Hell the closest I've come to psychological issues is finding Inglorious Basterds a bit disturbing while high, yet oddly enough more fun.

What I'm getting at here is that yes I think weed at least should be legal. I'm not going to throw around facts and figures. They're a penny a dozen in this thread but what I will say is that from my experience weed is less harmful than alcohol or cigarettes. Which is why I find it ridiculous that former is illegal yet the latter is fine. In the words of my cousin "It's like banning kitchen knives but selling katanas"

All of them.

If you did that in the USA we would be out of debt completely within ten years I predict. Just tax and regulate it just like tobacco and alchohol.

I wish people would read wikipedia (yes i know anyone can edit it but its more or less good for general information) more often about the various drugs that they want legalized. i.e heroin being allowed already in medicine in the UK however requires it to be in an oral form and can only be administered by doctors. Also that it is still incredibly addictive and that if "heroin" is to be legalized it would be done so in a tablet form which would remove any rush effect and at the legal dose would probably not have a very powerful effect. Not only this but a tolerance to the drug is built up meaning that the effect of taking the 1 tablet dose would end up having only a minor effect to the user. Thus it would just end up being that people would just take more tablets and melt them down or break them down and inject them. Thus making the whole regulated point a waste of time. As far as im concerned no recreational drug should be legalized including alcohol and tabacco as they all end up being abused.

For the people who keep talking about it being an economy booster, it may be a boost in the short term but in the long run the people who take the drugs will end up losing all their money paying for them, end up losing their houses, be unsuitable for work and in the long run the economy would collapse because of it.

For the people who keep saying ecstasy causes no harm on the topic of long term use: "The top side effects reported were difficulty concentrating, jaw clenching, grinding of the teeth during sleep, lack of appetite, and dry mouth/thirst (all occurring in more than 50% of the 74 volunteers)."
If overdose occurs mental damage occurs including effects such as delirium, insanity and paranoia and also ecstasy can be used to spike drinks so, no this is a stupid arguement.

I fully support the legalization and sale of weed, it does no bodily damage and has essentially zero negative effects.

Now harder drugs, they are a bit trickier, I fully support personal freedom of choice, I believe I should be able to do whatever the hell I want to my body, but hard drugs man, its the addiction that will kill you. I watched the couple of videos im gonna post now and it scared m off ever even going near heroin or anything like it. Intense shit.

For those of you who dont know, Phil Anselmo was the singer for a band called Pantera who developed a Heroin addiction which ultimately destroyed the band, and led him into a downward spiral. The breaking up of the band also lead to a crazed 'fan' murdering the guitarist (RIP Dimebag), which Phil has had to live with. Phil is now clean from hard drugs and was asked to talk about drugs and there effect at the Loyota University.

I have watched it twice and it is a hugely emotional piece of film, and I would urge everyone to watch it or at lest some of it. Go on, you have nothing better to do.

I have no problem with legalising drugs as long as there is a good educationl program in place right across the board, letting people know of risks and genetic predispositions to mental illness that can be permanently exacebated by some substances, Plus I would want it to be heavily regulated, monitored and distributed through pharmacies. The thought of a large multinational private corporation been able to market 'CRACK' or steroids to society at large scares the shit out of me.

Kids already have educational programs though, Most high schools teach the harmful effects of the drugs however it doesn't change anything all it takes is a little bit of peer pressure or whatever and thats it they take the drug and voila another drug abusing teen.

I tend to just follow the "if it's not harming anyone but yourself" rule as far as personal behaviour's concerned. Immediate legalisation I'd give to marijuana and entheogens (mushrooms and the like), otherwise, case by case.

I think pot should be legalized and cigarettes should be illegalized. I smoke neither but due to facts smoking does a hell of a lot more damage to you and the only reason that pot is illegal is because if it was legal the pulp mills would be in such a shitty position they would all crash and a bunch of people would lose there jobs.

Weed can be a very powerful form of pain medication with few side effects and issues other pain medication carries. I would like to see it legalized simply because its a lot safer to give to people recovering from injuries then T3's and Morphine. Honestly its no worse then alcohol for damage to a persons mind. If manufactured and produced legitly there would be no risk of it progressing toward hard drugs. If you use a bong its also a bit safer for you as well.

Cocaine. this is a toughie to explain.... In my chemistry and biology classes i learned that pure, untainted cocaine taken in small douses (1/4 teapsoon) a day can increase you energy, metabolic rate, muscle growth, and keep your mind clear. As well it carries nill side effects to the average person. Pretty much imagine taking a drug that made you 2x better at everything and lose weight doing it with no bad effects.

The problem is... seriously how long do you think it would be till people were swallowing whole bottles or shoving it up there noses. This is one of those, humanity is still to stupid, sort of deals. The amount i spoke of above would have no getting high effects(A lot of what you get high from with cocaine is the fact your inhaling it through your nose not swallowing a small amount and ingesting it naturally). It would pretty much just make you feel a bit better. The drug has to be pure as well not tainted like the shit you find on the streets. Meaning people can easily OD if they try and take a hit of it.

In short Cocaine is that wonder drug everyone is looking for. To bad your average human would abuse it harder then a red neck mother.

Which i think is why they are holding back on weed to begin with. The governments already have a metric ton of shit about letting alcohol and cigarettes be sold.(In Canada, or at least BC, the rules about smokes are freaking retarded. They must be hidden from sight at all times. Absolutely no pricing can be listed at all. Cigarillos are now illegal, and flavors now have to be called colors. Captain black cherries are now captain black red. Menthol is now green etc. etc.)

Now imagine the sheer mudslide of lobbyists and conspiracies the would be started if Weed was made legal. it would just be a political shit storm and not worth it since the average user doesn't vote.(That's my opinion based off who i know personally, please don't scream at me)

Edit: i should probably state for the record I'm a not a user. The hardest thing i take is Kokanee, because you know. Its the beer out here.

Make it all legal, educate people on its effects in as unbiased a way as possible (psh, yeah like, but a guy can dream, right?) and then let people make their own choices.

Basically, I'm pure pro-choice. I would never taken heroin. But if someone's gonna do it, it's their choice and who am I to argue with them? Its their body, no-one elses.

I am not a user of currently illegal drugs, and nor do I support their use. Still, I know if a person really wants drugs, they are probably going to get them somehow. If they are going to abuse them, they will abuse them. I cannot change that, so I can see that there might be benefits to legalizing drugs. If legal, we can tax it, we will make more jobs (people have to make or collect the drugs), and I suppose there could ? and I only say could ? be less drug related crime because people do not have to break laws and commit acts of violence to use or deal drugs.

Still, we have to regulate it somewhere. If we are going to legalize drugs, like cannabis, we will have to set some limits. We cannot have bus drivers or pilots high on the job. You can use it, but not in a situation where the use could cause harm; similar to how we do not allow people to drink and drive or drink and operate machinery. We defiantly have to set laws.

As for what drug should be legal, I think ? as a person who does not support illegal drug use ? cannabis might be okay. It is damaging, but so is alcohol and tobacco. Cannabis gives you a high, but it doesn?t make you as violent or as dangerous as coke or meth-amphetamine. As for other drugs and hallucinogens, I really don?t want to mess with them. They do weird things to your head, and can turn out badly. I say, just don?t mess with that stuff. I don?t want to be under the control of some chemical, or do something I will regret later.
