With Christmas coming up I recently lashed out and bought myself a DS. At the moment I have two titles: Disgaea DS and Advance Wars: Dark Conflict.

Are there any others my fellow Escapists can recommend?
I'm into Puzzles, RPGs (Japanese or otherwise), Strategy games etc.

Thanks in advance.

Sonic Rush
New Super Mario Bros.
Contra 4
Pokemon: Diamond or Pearl (if you like that sort of thing)
Bangai-O: Spirits
Ninja Gaiden
Space Invaders Extreme
Geometry Wars: Galaxies

I really like Sonic Rush and Bangai-O. A lot. Sonic Rush is my favorite Sonic game, 2D at least.

Pokemon
New Super Mario Bros. is a rent, not a buy, to be honest. Didn't last long enough to engage me. Same goes for Kirby: Squeek Squad. Awesome games, but not keepers.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2. I haven't played it. but if it's anything like Advance, you won't be sorry for buying it. It's similar to Disgaea.
Of course, there's the Ace Attorney series, which are just excellent.
If you didn't play it the first time around, the DS port of Super Mario 64 is good. Not as good as the N64 version, but still rather good.
There's also a DS port for Chrono Trigger coming soon/already out (depends on where you are). If you like JRPGs I cannot recommend this game enough.
Oh, and if you liked Advance Wars, there's a DS port of Fire Emblem (the first one, the Japanese one that never saw release outside Japan up till now) coming soon. In a similar vein, Final Fantasy III is out worldwide and available on the DS... hell, there's a lot of Final Fantasy games on DS. Not to mention other SquareEnix games.

How on earth does that work?
Considering I loved both games, my interest is officially piqued.

Not DS, but Yggdra Union for the GBA is a different take on turn-based strategy. If you like Advance Wars or Fire Emblem.

Pokemon is good if you want an MMO style/scale time sink, better than other RPG's in that sense because of the customisability. If you want story-driven ones, however, you need to look elsewhere.

Elite Beat Agents should be rented/borrowed before you buy it because it's really quirky and it's not fun if you don't like the wacky humor. Trauma Center and the Phoenix Wright games are simillarly recommended.

Picross and Tetris are both awsome puzzle games, and WarioWare is a good way to burn a few minutes. There was a Kirby game where you used the stylus to draw rails to guide a rolling Kirby around, but I can't remember what it was called.

Really? I heard it was pretty good, if you liked the original Tactics Advance, at least.

Honestly, i'm suprised no one's said The World Ends With You/ It's a Wonderful Life.

if your okay with an at times irritating control, it's a great game.

Nah, it's fine, really. So long as you don't go expecting an epic plot. An excellent OCD game along with Etrian Odyssey, I thought.

Planet Puzzle League, Picross, Meteos and Tetris DS are nice block puzzles.

Warioware Touched is the worst of the Warioware games, but you can run the original and Twisted on through the GBA slot, so if you can find them... get them!

What else...? Advance Wars: Dual Strike is very different from Dark Conflict, so you might like that too. The DS Fire Emblem surprisingly eschews the whole "don't get your troops killed, since you can't get them back" since you always get new troops after each chapter and you can also switch character classes before each chapter. A friend of mine hated that change, but I liked it, since it means that I don't really need to restart missions that often.

Elite Beat Agents is fun, as is The World Ends With You (I recommend not trying too hard to control both characters at once, I couldn't do it)
NSMB and SM64 DS are both fun. I love the phoenix wright games, you should definitely check those out. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time is good if you like the first one. It's not as good, but I still liked it. So yeah, there's a ton of stuff out there.

You do your farm thing and there are also dungeons you can go to where you can capture monsters to help run your farm. Actually, the dungeons are sort of like a cross between Diablo and Gauntlet.

That looks very awesome.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The FF Tactics sounds good, mostly because the GBA version was one of my most played games a few years ago. I didn't even know there was a DS Fire Emblem but I'll be sure to look it up as I've really enjoyed the FE series.

While not out as of time of writing, I'm really looking forward to it.

Other recomondations:

Kirby Superstar Ultra: Actually really good, I bought it out of remembering the SNES one.
It's essentially 7 or 8 Kirby games compiled into one card. Highly recommended

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney; Awesome, in Phoenix Wright, you play an attorney that has just exited law school and is ready to take on his first case. While at a first glance seems utterly boring and plain, the game is a lot of fun and has a coheirent storyline that feels very compelling. Highly recommended.

Other than that, I have no reccomendations. I have not yet explored the depths of the DS libary, so that puts me at a slight disatvantage.

Hotel Dusk, nice story line with some basic puzzles and searching needed.

The whole Ace Attorney series is gold, in my opinion! I also enjoy Elite Beat Agents, Trauma Center, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III- IV, and Kirby Canvas Curse! All five star games!!! :p

Trauma Center is a definate pick up, the second one is the better of the two, as it has difficulty settings, the first one likes to kick you in the nuts.

Chronotrigger, Need I explain it.

If you like crazy japanese games, The World Ends With You is a good one, the combat makes really good use of the touch screen functionality.

Sonic Chronicles is another good one. I personally enjoyed it.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is alot of fun. Really goofy, but alot of fun.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village, If you enjoy puzzles, this is a good one for you.

Those are just a few of my games, but they are my favorites.

Don't forget Dragon Quest V is coming soon. Also Dragon Quest: Chapters of the Chosen is a wonderful remake, sure to give you loads of JRPG goodness.
