Finally. I so want to finally play a classic style FPS. No limited weapon amounts or rechargeable shields. I'm excited.
Hate to piss on the parade but you can only hold two weapons. Also, regenerating health is sorta in... health has been replaced with 'EGO', which is restored by killing enemies. As if Duke would ever run out of ego.

I just hope that they retain the cool level design and humour of 3D, and maybe make the enemies a little more interesting.

What can i say? So they have finally finished the LEGENDARY Duke Nukem Forever - but what's the point? I bet it's not that good of a game, which means they couldn't possibly recoup any significant amount of money.
I agree...Wasn't Too Human in a similar position? Unless memory fails, Too Human was originally slated as an N64 release which fell into development purgatory. Once released, we were treated to garbage. I really hope the new Duke game is better off but, maybe this is just one of those things that we should have passed over, like BC.
Toss up. Couple of other long time anticipated games results:

1) Prey... I liked it
2) DaiKatana: I don't think anyone liked it.
Mother 3 took eleven years to develop.

If we go by that, DNF is going to be godly.
What is Mother 3?
It is a highly unconventional RPG and is outstanding in nearly every aspect. The only downside to it is that you can only play it in English on an emulator, but I recommend it to absolutely everyone.

It was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, as a sequel to Mother 2 (or Earthbound as it is known in the western world) released for the SNES in 1994.

The game went through a very hellish development, first being developed for the SNES, then the N64, then the N64DD... which failed spectacularly, leaving the game in limbo for a couple of years, then it was picked up again in 2002-2003, being developed on the GBA.

It's time to laze on our ass for years and finally make a fucking game.

and my ASS HURTS.
You realize that the finished product was not by 3D Realms, but by Gearbox? Meaning it wasn't the lazy asses who finally made the game, but an actual competent dev team?
Didn't pay enough attention, but I still don't really care much about it - not to mention thhat the hype about it probably died a few years ago. Except if you're a "die-hard" Duke fan.
Oh, I know. I'm not particularly excited about it either. I'm just pointing out that it's not really fair to diss Gearbox for this.

Honestly, who cares? Duke Nukem is an obsolete, washed up, game series.

Oh well. I guess I congratulate those of you that actually like him.

I don't know if you're trying to be a dick, or trying to be funny.
So just follow my little chart that I put down there.

IF BEING A DICK: No, you blow it out your ass. Duke Nukem may have been cool in the 90's, but so was Vanilla Ice. Now they're both jokes.

IF BEING FUNNY: No, you blow it out your ass. Duke Nukem may have been cool in the 90's, but so was Vanilla Ice. Now they're both jokes.

If you followed the lawsuit at all this news shouldn't be shocking. Additionally, it won't be shocking when the game turns out to be crap. As the game only recently started being developed. No matter who develops it, it has more to do with releasing it for title's sake than for the sake of a good game. The name of the game concerning DNF in this case is fast release date, not quality game. There is too much investment already lost and everyone concerned with the title is in a panic frenzy.
Have you even seen the demo? Or read about it?
I have only followed the legal crap when stuff was released. I find this case interesting as to I didn't even know it was possible for this type of thing to happen in the industry. Which actually is being proven that it can't now, it's just taken forever to confirm my suspicions. This whole case is swarmed with thoughts of "They can't do that, can they?" Game Informer had a pretty good article about it here a while back. 4-5 months ago maybe? It was actually their article that made me realize the game would be released within 2 years of me reading that article. The case was actually getting closed and resolved. Either 3D realms would release or they would have to hand it over and you had best bet 2k is going to release with allt his hype.

They may pull it out of their asses and make a good game. But with all the legalities involved this game doesn't stand much of a chance as it has been thoroughly tainted by the business end of the industry. Gearbox is has a pretty decent track record but they are famous for their babies and they will probably not be allowed to push back DNF. Thus when release date comes, it will probably be time to open the curtain no matter what is there.

My guess? The game starts out as a fairly generic FPS, with regen health and only 2 guns at a time. All that good shit. But as time goes on, Duke starts to realize he isn't enjoying himself as much as he used to. He spends a few levels taking time to question what's changed about him. Then he realizes, he isn't doing everything at about 100 times more manly than necessary.
Then...the game REALLY picks up. Regen will be replaced in favor of an actual EGO system. You can carry 10 BFGs of your choosing at once. Gearbox will take a few tips from Yahtzee and Duke's gonna become the worlds most manly Veterinarian. So and and so forth.

Going by the demo, I'd say its shaping up to be a very fun, mad title, regardless of legal complications. I've decided not to follow all the legal situations involved, because I don't think its the main part when it comes to games.

meh.

i find it hard to care about games that take this long to develop -- whatever the reason. i feel as excited about this as i did about starcraft 2 (really blizzard? over a decade in development?). i have similar feelings about diablo 3. by the time it's released in 2015, i doubt i will care at all.

This is awesome lol. Im sorry but I will buy this game just to own.

I played the first 2 DN games on my Windows 3.1 when I was a kid, they were my favorite games until I was 12.

Different company is finishing it. All they had to do was buy the rights.

No, the rights weren't even transfered anywhere. Both 3D Realms and Gearbox Software are studios owned by 2K Games. That's who i meant when i said "they", and i dread to even imagine just how much money was lost on that project.

EDIT: Wait wait wait... i'm not sure about the Gearbox actually... there's a news post declaring that they've bought the rights, so they're probably an independent studio just working for 2K. And now that i think of it, maybe 3D Realms was owned by Take-Two after all...

I hate my leaky memory.

3d realms was the village bycicle if you get my drift.

but whoever payed whoever 12 million dollars to get this game out and then 12 years of delays happened which is why they probably had to sell it for a fairly low price. That Im assuming is because of that whole surplus freemarket thingy.

Im pretty sure gearbox is independent
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gearbox_Software

Edit: gearbox isn't run by idiots, they wouldn't buy the game if they didn't think they could make a profit off of it.
