But it isn't funny like Naked Gun. The humour of the old games was on level with the kind of shit the "[insert word here] Movie" series does. Granted, the guys who made Borderlands are developing it now, and Borderlands was kiiind of funny.Atmos Duality said:Context.
What Duke 3D did at the time was groundbreaking and fun.
Besides, as long as the humor and cultural references are there, I think it would be a great counterbalance to all of the "Serious business" big-budget shooters we currently have.
Sort of like the "Naked Gun" of shooters, though I'm hoping it doesn't turn into the "Epic Movie" of shooters instead...
Eh, I found most of the references to be funny; especially in context. The Doom space marine pun was a direct jab at Doom, being DN3D's defacto competition at the time. Also, I Love the Duke Burger level.warm slurm said:But it isn't funny like Naked Gun. The humour of the old games was on level with the kind of shit the "[insert word here] Movie" series does. Actually, Randy Pitchford has stated the game will be around 17-18 hours long. Not counting multiplayer.Tipsy Giant said:MY PREDICTION
It will be rad but short and they will pump out two shit sequels in 2012 and 2013 and then it will die forever
Trolling right? In the age where 'realistic' modern-warfare shooters reign supreme this is generic? Really?! Nowadays this is anything but generic, a whole new shooter-era has taken hold of the market, if anything DNF is a breath of fresh air.warm slurm said:I don't really care about it. ...I...I...I'm sorry I just...I just have something in my eye, that's all. Really.Triforceformer said:Actually, Randy Pitchford has stated the game will be around 17-18 hours long. Not counting multiplayer.
Well, I was talking about the old games, not DNF. I can't judge on a trailer, but I meant that the old games were generic '90s FPS games.Cowabungaa said:Heh, I was already preparing a speech about how thanks to the long time waiting it's no longer dated etc etc etc, but it appears I don't have to.
Anyway, can't wait for it. Played enough 'seriuz bizniz' shooters, time for some good ol' fashioned fun.

I suppose. Doom-like shooters were all the rage back then. Not seeing such a problem with that though, Duke Nukem 3D was a bucketload of fun. It certainly didn't take itself so seriously as many other shooters already did in those days. The first 2 or 3 (can't really remember) Duke Nukems were fun too, but those were 2D platformers.warm slurm said:Well, I was talking about the old games, not DNF. No really, he's just pointing out your ignorance and how it's more than a little careless to throw a judgement about a game you know little about.warm slurm said:A little condescending there, huh? I've been playing games since the SNES; maybe I'm not old enough to have played NES/Atari/whatever, but I didn't just jump in around the PS2 era, you know. I just wasn't old enough to be allowed to play Duke Nukem games when they were out.TheComedown said:Well young one, its pretty obvious you haven't been playing games for a great deal of time. Duke Nukem is a legend for a reason. Saying that Duke Nukem is generic is like saying Abe Lincoln was just another president.
I know enough about it to pass judgement, tyvm. And I couldn't play mature games back then even if my parents weren't around. Someone has to buy it for you.aPod said:No really, he's just pointing out your ignorance and how it's more than a little careless to throw a judgement about a game you know little about.warm slurm said:A little condescending there, huh? I played the Duke 3D games when i was about 10 when mom and pop werent around. It was pretty awesome.
Maybe you think so, but you're ignoring the fact that Duke 3D didn't come out in 2010 it came out in a different era. In fact i would say many shooters seem generic because they've taken so much from Wolfenstien, Doom, Quake, and Duke. It's not that you can't make a judgement it's that your judgement is skewed because you are comparing it with everything that has since come out without realizing Duke Nukem was a fun ass ride with some classic one liner.warm slurm said:I know enough about it to pass judgement, tyvm.
