I wish more people would take Duke Nukem less seriously. It's quite obviously a parody of everything the FPS genre ever was and always will be. The game is ridiculous in its execution and its plot. However, you cannot deny that the attention to detail in its humour is fantastic. Self depreciating humour in games is something I want to see more of.

I also feel like I'm the only person who can't wait for FEAR 3. I know I'm never the only one, but I have seen no one else mention it. I think it looks pretty awesome.
I'm looking forward to it. I was sceptical about the co-op as it means the scary factor will be completely gone. But it'll probably be a good fun, meaty action shooter, just like F.E.A.R. 2.
I'm still waiting for your DNF song... Come on, I'm your fan from the days when you posted that COD song! ;)

Not alone. I too am looking forward to FEAR 3. Hope it captures some of the magic from the first game. Second was quite awful, really.

OT: The Duke was always going to get number one spot. The media build up-for and against-and the fact most people actually want to play the game since its been so long coming. I know I do, despite the reviews.

its suffering the spore effect. NO game can live up to 13 years of waiting. And when i game changed hands this many times. I'm not sure why reviewers are surprised that its not a slam dunk...

Duke Nukem is, in my useless opinion, a novelty game, after playing the first access demo I announced to my friend that it was average, hobbled by agonising load times and terrible visuals, my friend simply responded with "still though, I'm buying it."

It's just on of those things that's apparently immune to criticism simply because "It's DNF"

Did you play it?

All things considered, it kinda deserved the mauling it got. A lot of people bought it, some will be happy with it but many will be disappointed.
After the demo, I figured that the feelings on the game would be mixed. Looking at review scores, majority of bad reviews are on consoles while PC is getting the highest. Whether it's due to nostalgia or not, the PC reviews basically say along the lines of "There are a lot of problems, but I had fun none the less".

Duke was always gonna sell extremely well. By no accounts does that make it a good game. Lets face it, the only reason so many people trashed it, is because they all bought it and were disappointed. But they still bought the game.

If it stays on top next week when OoT 3D is released, fair enough, but as some people have said, DNF is a legend among gamers. People will buy it simply because it's actually been released.

I meant that more like "What's the point of reviewers? They absolutely kick the shit out of the game and it still does fine from the looks of things".
Because fanboys will always ignore reviews until AFTER they buy the game. Same shit would happen if, say, Skyward Sword managed to suck horrendously. The fanboys would still buy it up...
OR people would rather see for themselves than have someone else tell them, because other people's opinions aren't always trust worthy. When Bioshock first game out for the Xbox everyone was going on about how it's so great. Skeptical, I gave it some time and rented it. I thought it was boring, atmospheric and all that shit, but I couldn't play longer than a few hours because it was too easy. It wasn't until I got it on Steam sale for 5 dollars that I finished it.

Well, we can't blame the massive wave of sales in this game. It was extremely popular twelve years ago, and was expected to be even better now. The game obviously did not achieve this goal.

If we're talking about reviews. People like "Yahtzee" do great ones, but they make a load more sense if you actually play the games he's talking about, as you have an opinion on the game and he will either agree or disagree.

Really? Because I went in Gametsation yesterday and DNF has five pre-owned copies already and three stacks of new copies behind the tills.

People score DNF not very well, DNF takes top-spot, you blame reviewers? Right then.

(Also, I believe a few studies have shown that reviews hardly influence people at all.)

As for my thoughts: it clearly shouldn't be up there, but there you go.
I meant that more like "What's the point of reviewers? They absolutely kick the shit out of the game and it still does fine from the looks of things".
You do know that reviews are more than the score, right? Sometimes people actually READ the reviews, figure that whatever the reviewer thought to be problems don't sound such dealbreakers to them personally and enjoy the game.

Of course, vast majority of people just skip to the score, so whatever. DNF is kinda big deal in gaming for some reason, regardless of its quality, so people probably buy it just because it's Duke. I just wanted to point out that being able to read other person's experience with a game is helpful.

Its a pretty bad game with some good ideas. I had some fun with it, and I think there is a place for the Duke...but he really need to be in the hands of someone who knows how to treat him right.

Rated as just a game...I'd say...6 or 7/10. At least it was entertaining enough that I bothered to play through it, thats more than what I can say for Crysis 2 which while it looked like a dream, was so boring and uninteresting that I just stopped playing.

Duke Nukem could fall into a volcano and I wouldn't care.

If you like Duke Nukem as a character or a franchise, that's your bag. Everyone has different tastes.

Personally, I don't see how he has any relevance in this day and age. The archetype of the "tough guy action hero who kills the bad-guys and gets the babes" that he is meant to be a caricature of no longer exists. That character archetype died out in the early 90's, nearly TWO DECADES AGO.

Socially speaking, we have evolved past that. Duke Nukem is a neanderthal of the gaming world.

Reviews should eviscerate games otherwise we'll never learn! Lol. Anyway, review scores hardly translate to sales, and DNF has so much hype and so many fans/ex-fans waiting to play that of course it'll do well.

My only complaint so far is for PC, Vsync causes excessive mouse lag.

I might be the most preowned game in the UK but does anyone really care about 'top sellers' ?

Does it run on Unreal engine? If so just go into the system.ini file and cap the FPS, unless what you're doing it avoiding screen tearing.

I don't think it's Unreal... not sure though. If I turn Vsync off my FPS shoots up to 120-150 but no screen tearing, the only thing I don't like about that is my GPU and oddly my CPU usage shoots up really high. I don't mind the GPU usage (80% +), except that I have to turn up my fans, but it's wierd that my CPU usage hits up to 50-75% usage and I'm using an i5 750 at 4ghz. Anyway it's just kind of shitty that instead of being able to play with low power and quiet fan speeds I'll have to crank it all up just so I don't get mouse input lag.

I'll check the system.ini file out tonight.
