What's a stupid law you've discovered? I've got a few. They all come from Lawrence, Kansas.
1) It's illegal to cross Massachusetts Street with a beehive under your hat.
2) Upon entering Lawrence, KS, you must honk your car horn to warn the horses.
3) A woman who is driving must have a male escort walk in front of her with a broom to alert everyone a woman is driving.

EDIT: All are still in effect.

In my town it's illegal to have a red roof on your house or building. I believe it was because they were trying to lose the rural, farm kind of look. You know, since barns are red. That one's not that interesting but I know it off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to look up any better ones.

And I have to say:

I know that no one obeys that law or is expected to, but shouldn't someone do something about that? That's pretty sexist.

I've read that Whaling is illegal...in Kansas (completely landlocked, for those who didn't get it).

According to the Danish Jyske Lov (The Danish Jutland Law) failure to report a dead person(the body of a deceased, regardless of affiliation) can and will result in a 20 Danish crowns fine. (Equal to an amount of aprox. 4$).

I'm sure they have an aquarium somewhere. Wouldn't want anyone harpooning the dolphins, now.

Oh my god, the Dollar is actually stronger than some form of currency?

I am alwasys getting these type of emails and they never cease to bore me. People often are amused by the outlandishness of the laws, but many have been grounded is reason, just a reason that no longer exists in a modern age, such as laws allowing a person to beat their spouse on the courthouse steps. Other laws were purposefully passed as jovial moments in a assembly of lawmakers knowing full well that they would never be enforced.

That being said. The law that i think it the funniest is not silly but just unfair. That is that in Illinois if you are pulled over for a SUSPECTED dui, you license is automatically suspended for three to six months even if you are later acquitted of the charge. Oh and heres another gut buster. The cops in illinois are allowed to call a drug sniffing dog over to your vehicle to search for contraband without any reasonable suspicion that you have anything in the vehicle so long as it doesn't take too long.

perhaps this isn't in the spirit of the original posting so how about this one: In Chicago it is illegal to eat in a place that is on fire.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in Oklahoma, too...

(Also landlocked. (But has more coastline than the east coast.))

Detonating a nuclear device in any city in California will result in a $500 fine.

It is illegal to have a pet rhinoceros in Califronia without a license.(that means you can get a license for a pet rhinoceros!)

There's one in some American state regarding cows and it being obligatory for you to stop for them if you find one by the side of the road.

I'm sure I have a book of these somewhere.

Phew, so the warrant for me in Denmark is only for $4 because I didn't report that dead body. I was afraid that I was going to be extradited! j/k

That's a pretty strange fine, don't you think? $4 for not reporting a dead body...

I believe it's in Kansas that you are not allowed to carry ice cream in your back pocket.
Got that from a milk carton in middle school.

No, isn't that perfectly normal? Hence why the thread is named "Dumb law"

At a time before the dollar, 20 crowns was probably a large amount of money for your average Joe.

A state senator came to my middle school and somehow got on this topic and told us that the silliest one he's heard of was that if you encountered a horse while driving, you have to dismantle your car.

I guess if you did it anyway jail is probably a comparable safe place as opposed to their own responsibility!

2) Upon entering Lawrence, KS, you must honk your car horn to warn the horses.
Admittedly that's a bit antiquated but obviously back in the 30s or something makes more sense.

3) A woman who is driving must have a male escort walk in front of her with a broom to alert everyone a woman is driving.
All I'm saying is that it would reduce accidents (by halving the number of drivers going at a dangerous speed).
