in Australia a life sentence is 25 years damn...
Not only there.

In Belgium this is the case as well... or at least it comes down to 25 years.

Death sentence automatically gets redirected to life sentence (though they simply do not 'hand out' death sentences anymore).
Life sentence automatically calls in the king's grace, lowering the effective sentence to 25 years.

In Houston, it is required to notify the police 24 hours before you commit any crime. Thought this is really just an excuse to hit criminals with tougher punishments.

In York, it is legal to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow if he is inside the city walls before 10am.
Also it is still mandatory for each man in the UK to practice with a bow and arrow for an hour every Sunday.

In some Middle Eastern and Islamic countries, women who are raped are stoned to death.
The punishment of many crimes is to have a sister/female relative raped, and then stoned to death, as being raped brings shame upon the family...

It is illegal to stab yourself to gain someone's pity.

It's against the law for a man to seduce "a chaste woman by means of temptation, deception, arts, flattery or a promise of marriage."

It is legal to drive the wrong way down a one-way street if you have a lantern attached to the front of your automobile.

It is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.

It is illegal to wear a fake mustache that causes laughter in church.

You know what's really funny about these laws. They are in place because someone committed an act, that was clearly wrong, but they couldn't prosecute him because their was no law against it.

theres one (I don't remember where)where it is illigal to cross the street while walking on your hands. Then there's a law in Conneticut where it is illigal to serve a person two alcholic beverages at the same time ie boilermaker (shot of whiskey and a beer) which unfourtunatly doesn't stop bartenders from overserving people

Or someone of very high authority wanted to fuck with people.

Arizona: You may not deny a request for a glass of water.

Understandable, and would like to try it out sometime. I would have to get my lawyers warmed up first though.

Ah yes. I will now quote someone, and anyone who can guess who I am quoting gets a virtual cookie.

"It brings tears of joy to my eyes to know that this world still breathes such madness."

Oh yeah did you know that in the state of OR, it is illegal to go out in the water on a boat and make whale noises. I guess someone did that in the dark and got a harpoon tossed at them by a confused whaler. I wonder if the law still holds up if you go swimming in the water and make whale noises.

You may be arrested for vagrancy if you do not have at least one dollar bill on your person in Illinois.

If you're not aware of politics in Illinois, it's mostly shenanigans with occasional legislation(just look at our past three or so governors, including Blagojevich, in case you needed something to google), so I'd imagine this is so the good people can be asked for bribes at any time.

In Champaign, Illinois, it's illegal to urinate in a person's mouth.

Was that such a problem that they needed law enforcement to get involved? Although it is essentially a university town. I really have no idea if it's a party school or not.

In Chicago, and I'm just reading off a website, I'm no law student;

It is forbidden to fish while sitting on a giraffe's neck.

That one may sound weird, but considering how often animals escape from the Chicagoland zoos, that's very understandable.
