<spoiler=Summary>You are a Powerful lord of a Dungeon! To be more exact, you serve a lord of a dungeon (minions view you know?). Create your Fiend/Tribe/Summon/etc. and try to create the best dungeon in the world is the basic idea. Set in a land of magic and early steam punk you'll be put against odd facing "Heroes" and others in an effort of EVIL (though there really isn't an actual idea of good or evil an- oh you get the idea).

So basically I was wondering why an rp like this never popped up in general and a friend of mine who liked this kind of Theme of a story (as do I) said I should write one out as a big explanation for an Rp to use a template of sorts, I agreed and so this came in to plans. Inspired by popular fiction and numerous other things, I thank them all

<spoiler=The Dark Lord>Your mighty Dark Lord! Is pathetic really, he is an alchemist and a summoner and is good at creation and forming things with his power, sadly he isn't so great at fighting and the whole Dungeon set up. Recently he decided to hire out of his own Lair for new talent and people.

If your wondering why he is "Dark" or "Evil" you'll just have to read his history, or it might be a mystery.

<spoiler=Setting>The land you are in is a mix of medieval fantasy with magic and knights, and mild steam punk and other contraptions in play. Nothing complicated and gun powder is very crude and yet to become main stream and in lethal measured use, bombs on the other hand yes.

As for the next lair location, you the people will get to vote/suggest a lair, and if no clear consensus can be made I choose.


<spoiler=Your Character/Tribe/Summon> Now this is a bit more difficult considering, but I'll do my best to explain, you have the choice of the following three classifications.

-a Character a single or very few amount of people that are basically like any rp person in general (A living creature)

-a Tribe, or group of people that work under and for the Dark Lord and live in or near the Dungeon in a set up home, this can include multiple people and is very open, the only bad part is the fact of your power level can't be high on the rung of the universe. (living creature)

-a Summon-Demon, elemental, this to is varying in degree but goes towards the undead (summoned, not a ghost/spirit of any sort), and spirits. Depending on your preference this can be single, a few, or an entire group of beings brought to the land.

This is just some outlines of races in general and by no means prevents you from creating your own as long as it fits the setting and does not ruin certain gears and cogs.
Human-Obvious and average
Troll-Nearly any and every variation out there is allowed more or less, big or small, some smart or not at all
Orc-Yup still there, you get the idea average like human almost
Goblin/Goblins-Same as a Troll in variation, but less smart in most creations
Beast men/women-Werewolves and other things included, this includes fish people, wolf people, tiger people even, you name it.
Demon-Do I really need to say more on this?
Spirits-These are Technically Summons, but can branch off to nature, or slide in to darkness, or rise up to light.

-Builders-Through joint efforts or trickery they are the common building blocks of any dungeon and how it functions through their efforts at foot and hand.
-Defenders-Support and otherwise single or special they act as turning points and pivotal actions and reaction
-Attackers-A "Boss" unit and person that is good on their own but can easily be swamped or overtaken in a sense.

Each varies and say a mage who can make solid objects appear can sometimes be more handy then the one who can hurl a ball of flame down a tunnel.

Personality-Varies greatly due to the fact they are multiple and quite insane, each is an aspect of his/her self and while, anger, sadness, creativity you name it.

Sexuality-More confusing then a Troll's idea (Homestuck reference, it has me hooked), with so many renditions and ideas they tend to jumble and mix, he/she does indeed have kids...

Political-Hates "Heroes" and feels misunderstood in the core of things, and yearns for safety with vast comfort as well ergo a Dungeon to rule in, along with a great deal of other things.

Strengths/Skills-A Very powerful Mage and Alchemist in a sense of creation and formation of different enchantments, spells, potions and other things he/she can easily draw forth items and tools from a null space in a sense.
Despite this surprisingly fragile while in Human appearance, can morph in to a stronger form of a giant Shade like Abomination.
Psychic or other forms of control and trickery are next to impossible to occur with the fact that he/she is so split.

In explanation, he/she is so damn old that he/she can't remember his/her original gender. Some time ago when he/she was rising to fame and fortune (I'm just going to refer to it as a him) he decided to split his aspects of humanity and general emotions and aspects apart, bad idea. He can technically exist in many forms and is immortal in the sense that killing an Aspect results in it returning to the nearest shape, to kill him/her would mean a series of mini-boss battles leading to one great big one in a game sense.

They have a very loose sense of communication and can exist without any real defined limits in distance and life actions, thought seeing 5 of them work in one room is like a tornado just ate a Costco.

Weakness/lacking-Easily diverted and split he/she has bad skills in fighting with the nature that his aspects good and bad are easily exploited or guess out by heroes and this usually leads to his/her downfall.
Power is split between aspects and some gain better control of some then others.

Equipment-N/A on person, but usually has a null space linked to a lab or storage room set up within the dungeon in his main chamber and ante chamber.

History-The Dark Lord is mysterious for certain, but lets shed some light on him/her, born long ago (not sure how long) he went through a moment of creation, divination, and information with science and magic working hand in hand through common forms. Sadly this led to the Split of his aspects and would lead to evil actions as his aspects turned to a darker nature.

He would later become the Dark Lord through the fact heroes wanted his creations and experiments for wealth, to plunder secrets deep, this caused him to make a keep and hire or summon up minions to man it or help keep it under lock and key, usually of the commonly frowned upon by decent "Society".

While very powerful he still failed in managing a generic dungeon and recently has branched out his hiring range and quota with loyal minions at hand, be begins the search for a new Dungeon.

<spoiler=Dark Lord's Many Persons>I'll keep this here as a list of all the ruddy Aspects branched off from the Dark Lord at any given time.

The Scientist-Bald and blue eyed, this aspect his mostly centered in science, theory, magic, and creation, kept in the background and mostly used in keeping potions and summons up and running and in stock for other aspect and their use. Is neutral and a bit of a coward, nervous, but has a state of mind with such zeal to the arts. Speaks quietly, calmly and rarely looks anyone in the eye except for science/research!

The Leader-Spiked black hair and dark yellow eyes, this aspect is centered in relationships, social interaction, being a leader, and teleportaion/transportation and management. good nature and positive attitude as an Evil lord with the flair for dramatic and show, he is considered the Face of Evil. Specialized in a form of rapid teleportation for numerous weapons and equipment along with mild telekinesis and magically moved objects. Speaks confidentially and well mannered. Associated with earth, and is good at transforming and Terra-forming for buildings.

The Witch-Blood red hair (is white but she dyes it with blood brew), and white eyes like a blind person, she is mostly associated with pain, gain, and love, her explanation is the fact of child birth and how women are associated with it more in aspects rather then men. A Masochist, Sadist, and a bunch of other sinful sights of searing scorn, she is chief assassin, torturer, Minion Relations, a cool curse when it comes to negotiation like a lawyer, she is considered to be the most "Evil" for real in any aspect.

The Silent-Locked in a box and then a cage, enchanted three times over by seven with wisdom of a sage, kept from the sun yet never in shade, he is considered the two sided blade. Safe and secret it is the heart, the first aspect to die and the first to live at the start. Innocence kept away in case all else die one day, never opens its eyes or has a word to say, kept from time and decay.

This aspect is the most guarded and kept hidden of any aspect and is an emergency storage when aspects are killed and is the last one remaining. There are more that can be split and are easily determined on sight and most have a rule of stating what or who they represent in any case (some more willing then others) through a title.

Please note for background of the world development it includes the entire worlds culture and people in some for or manner, this way you can even have things foreign to European myth and other things. For another matter playing the Anti-Hero, or even creating an actual hero to oppose the dungeon may come in to play later...

Name- Known collectively as the Sparkle.

Age-The Colony its self could be thousands of years old but no individual member will be older than 25 years.

Appearance: Sparkle is a colony of about 140-160 flash beetles. Each individual beetle is about size of a mouse with 6 limbs, 4 smaller ones used only as legs and a pair of larger spade like claws used for borrowing and fighting. They are all see through giving the impression of being made of glass (of course trying to smash them as if they were glass doesn?t work). Their heads have a pair of small retractable horns that can be fired with some force but take quite a while to grow back.
However this isn?t what you?d see if you looked at them, you see flash beetles are masters of photo-kinesis (the psychic manipulation of light). As such they have evolved to cling together in large colonies and disguise as other species. It helps they are mildly psychic and can read other species minds to find out what would look the most attractive.
As such most adventures would see Sparkle as a human (probably female) and not just as a human shaped mass of creepy crawlies. If she?s lucky they won?t even notice how she occasionally gets a little blurry around the edges.

Gender-Mostly looks female but doesn?t really have one or at least not one a human would recognise.
Race-Flash Beetle.
Weight-Heavier than she looks. About 300 pounds despite having the figure of a pretty normal person.
Height-The beetles are just about strong and well balanced enough to reach heights of 5?3
Body type- hourglass figure without much muscle but generous assets (after all how else is she supposed to attract prey). That is unless the heroes would prefer someone with more meat on their bones in which case she can get quite fat.
Hair color/style-No fur but she has her hair just how you like it.
Eye Colour- Varies but usually a glowing almost neon blue.
Skin color- Again depends what the people looking at her want you to see.
Facial Structure/Notable Features- Slightly blurred around the edges sometimes especially when she?s moving fast. Also has an ever so slight gleam sometimes giving the impression she?s been polished.

Clothing/Typical Fashion/Outfit of Choice- Likes long flowing dresses, especially this lovely bright blue number found in a carriage she raided. It?s amazingly elegant and looks the height of class. Even if moving around in it isn?t easy and she keeps tripping over she?ll do her best to keep it on.
Luckily blood comes out or she?d have had to regret what she did to the troll that tried to take it from her.

Accessories-A few coloured stones here or there that look pretty expensive but nothing else of note.

Personality/Culture-
The Swarm isn?t so complex mentally and even less so as individually. The main question on their minds when greeted with a new thing (like a puppy) is as follows.
1-Can we eat it.
1-If yes eat it.
2-If no can we manipulate it into a situation where eating it would be possible.
Not to say there is no personality there Sparkle is a pretty complex person being as she is a combination of thousands of years? worth of collective memories and the memories of their prey.
She likes pretty things and cares deeply about what others think of her. She does sometimes feel depressed that she is essentially just the imaginary friend of a swarm of individual bugs. Like she?s just the result of their wants and desires as opposed to her own person. She wonders if they even notice her sometimes.
What doesn?t depress her however is her diet, she doesn?t feel guilty about the countless people she?s eaten because she feel she couldn?t have done anything to stop the bugs. It?s like a form of fatalism.

Sexuality-please she?s way too smart for that. Of course that doesn?t mean she won?t fake whatever sexuality would be the most useful but the closet thing she feels to attraction is the desire to have someone as part of her collective mind (which normally involves feeding them to the bugs).
Politically-
What?s a politic?
(Think that about sums up the extent of her political philosophy).
Strengths/Skills- She can manipulate light just by thinking about it fly (but only if she jumps or falls off something and even then not very fast) and change her appearance though that is by instinct and not in her control. Also she is able to take the minds of people she kills and make them part of hers gaining their knowledge. The bugs are also able to dig pretty quickly. She?s pretty durable thanks to all the shells she contains and she?s also literate at least basically. She is able to divide herself up into individual beetles.

Weakness/lacking-
She?s completely mute because the bugs can?t manipulate sound meaning she has to resort of mime, using her mild psychic powers to make them feel how she feels or trying to show others with her light manipulation. She doesn?t understand lying (ironically) and she can?t swim (or for that matter fly when wet). She lacks the dexterity for weapon use of any kind beyond hammer smash. She has a strong attraction to anything colourful or shiny (which is why she can?t take of the very impractical dress) and she lacks the mental capabilities to think about the past and future as effortlessly as humans can. For example thinking about the past would take up to an hour of intense mental work just to detach herself from the here and now.
When dividing herself up she becomes less and less mentally able as her intelligence is based on the cooperation of all beetles. She also becomes less and less defined as a personality since again she only exists as a collection of many beetles not as an individual. For this reason the swarm is far from a precision instrument. I?ll refer you to the time she broke apart in the middle of the heroes and goblins fighting only to reform having eaten both sides.

History-Swarms like Sparkle?s have existed in some form for thousands of years. The history of this one is nebulous to say the least. Then again you don?t see nearly as many flash beetles as you used to so their numbers must have been in decline for a while now. The Dungeons of the dark lord are probably one the few places they?d still call home after their native swamps.
As for Sparkle as a personality she can?t really tell. She doesn?t remember only just coming into existence. To be honest she doesn?t dwell on her past much as she isn?t really mentally able. She remembers a Queen, which took her in and fed her and clothed her. But that queen ended up eaten.
She remembers something being taken, something she knew she should feel more incensed about something she vaguely thought might help sort out the chaos in her head. The Dark Lord was somehow involved; maybe he knew who had taken whatever it was from her. He might even know how to get it back. She also remembered the dungeon. She remembered her task, to infiltrate and deceive groups of trespassers. Maybe they had what she was looking for. She would have to check the next time she met some.
A bit strange and overall interesting though I am a bit confused, is the "Sparkle" (=p) a single being comprised of many beetles, or is more of a host to many beetles of the sort? Next in the agenda is any suggestion for a new Lair? Forest fortress, mountain, river and island, castle, etcetera as very open.
Also tell your friends or anyone you think might be interested in this.

Garath Den



Age- 128
Appearance: A towering hybrid of man and bull. It's forehead is low and mounted with horns, the body covered with hair. It's arms are thick, ending not in hands but rather in huge misshapen paws. White foam runs from the corners of its thick lower lip in twin streams that dripped from its chin.
Gender- M
Race/Ethnicity- Beastman (minotaur)
Weight- 577 lbs
Height- 7' 2"
Body type- Hulking and muscular.
Hair color/style- Dense brown fur that curled and coiled like wire.
Eye Color- hollow and orange. Filled with horrible awareness.
Facial Structure/Notable Features- Jutting jaw with a thick neck and scant fur.
Outfit of Choice- Loincloth. Wears chainmail if preparing for a pitched battle.
Accessories- Everything he owned has been left behind.

History- Garath Den was a great warrior. No, not a great warrior, but the mightiest of warriors! None from his clan could best him. But for all his strength, he was obsessed with his own mortality. He lived in fear of the great beyond, and searched for any way of making himself immortal.
A blood sacrifice gave him a vision of the dark lord, one who could grant him his desire. So Garath Den set out in relentless pursuit. He fought through every obstacle, braving rain and sun until he reached the Dungeon. And though Garath Den is now unaging, the enchantment came with a terrible price- total enslavement to the dark being.

Personality/Culture- An odd mix of bestial and calculating, savage and rational. Fully obedient to his master, and will obey any commands as long as he is still standing.

Strengths/Skills- Skill with all weapons. Can rip trees out of the ground and tear men apart with his bare hands. Can scale cliffs with shocking speed and his endurance is inhuman. Can track by scent. To mistake Garath Den for a dumb beast would be a woeful error, for he also is adept at strategy at scales large and small. Does not age.

Weakness/lacking- Can still die if he takes damage. Lacks grace. Much heavier than a human. Very difficult to "blend in". Disadvantage when fighting in tight quarters.

Equipment- A six-foot claymore, a large battleaxe, and torches.

Appearance: He/it is a bizarre creature, similar to a very dark purple (almost black) humanoid dinosaur with wrinkled, pruny skin, and a hideous face. Like a chicken, it walks on two legs and balances by a stubby tail. Its hands are weak and flimsy, multiply jointed but obviously designed for very light work or very low gravity. The jaws (which have no lips) are tipped with metal.

Gender- M
Race/Ethnicity- Ai
Weight- Easily a half ton.
Height- 11'
Body type- very, very strange.
Clothing/Typical Fashion/Outfit of Choice- Wears no clothes. Uses no weapon. Presumably, Spiriah is powerful enough to simply create a weapon out of thin air if it desires.

Personality/Culture- Spiriah's real name was Imaeus, and he belonged to a race called the Ai. Little is known about him, but it/he serves a malevolent being and seems to have supernatural powers---presumably lesser than his master, and probably given to him as a gift for service. Spiriah is truly evil, and expresses a desire for war, genocide, and pain.

Politically- Spiriah is often sent on missions for his master, whose proclaimed goal is to eradicate all reality and replace it with nonexistance. Spiriah appears to his enemies, playing mind games with them, and seems to hold a special "fondness" for those that possess viciousness and drive.

Strengths/Skills- Spiriah seemed to have some influence over matter. He collapsed a structure by will and teleported from place to place. He claimed to be able to strenghten others and extend their lives to unnatural length. Spiriah also was able to cast illusions to disguise himself in human shape, although the illusions looked like they were made of melting wax. Even from far away, they barely passed as human.

Weakness/lacking- Spiriah's weaknesses are unknown. However, he/it was defeated in melee combat against a team of human warriors, and forced to retreat.

I see what you did there (-_-), and you can use either or both if you wish, though I should note to hurry up and post the Dark Lords profile as soon as possible so interactions between him in others history is a bit more clear. In other notes I'll be adding in some more detail.

I've already thought about this greatly in lengths but it's more like this...

A-You are a long term loyalist to the DL because he can supply you with a better standard of living protection in groups and numbers, not to mention monetary wealth and other things are next to nothing with his/her power.
B-You sign on for revenge or desire to strike back at "Civilized" Kingdoms and others lured by the DL's loot
C-You just like to kill and be happy

A-Through Trickery he/she has somehow gotten you on the leash/hook by a Dark Aspect
B-In exchange with one of his Darker Aspects then yes he/she grants you a wish for servitude and loyalty

Depending on who you've met or interacted with Aspect wise determines really how you were taken in, with the Scientist you were created, with the Leader you were Hired, and with the Witch you were most likely tricked or given your "Hearts Desire" in any case.

<spoiler=Sparkle>Here's a simple idea if you wish, the Witch found "Sparkle" colony long ago and aptly named her for funnies, with the help of the Scientist they managed to steal something that would eventually have evolved in to something akin to what would be "Human" transformation, or perhaps an insect achievement of species continuation.

Name- Wilhelm

Age- 26

Appearance:

Gender- Male

Race/Ethnicity- Human, white

Weight- 123 pounds

Height- 5' 2"

Body type- Fundamentally ectomorphic, yet has a fair amount of muscle. Not much body fat.

Hair color/style- Brown hair, cut extremely short. He also has large amounts of facial scruff.

Eye Color- Light gray eyes (much like those under #3 on the chart)

Skin color- Tanned, approximately shade #23.

Facial Structure/Notable Features- Wilhelm has a normal human face (if a bit narrower than average, and his nose looks a little odd from having been broken a few times). He has several smaller scars on his body simply from living in the wilderness, but no particularly egregious markings.

Clothing/Typical Fashion/Outfit of Choice- Typical clothing would be fairly ranger gear: the usual brown hides, covering all of his skin below the neck (save for what archery gloves leave exposed), as well as a dark gray cloak. If he's to dress up nice, he does have a suit stowed away somewhere. He got it from a place that had a lot of steam blowing around.

Accessories- He's got a belt, archery gloves, two bows, and a quiver. No personal mementos, though.

Personality/Culture- Wilhelm would, at first appearance, seem quite cold and distant, but he just more laid back than anything else unless he's hunting (in which case he's just focused on the hunt, which he always enjoys). He'll generally react to situations by trying to stop whatever is causing the problem first, before dealing with any fallout. As for the puppy question, Wilhelm would try to raise the young canine as a hunting dog and only eating it if things went south (he'd kill it first). Wilhelm's general view on things is rather simple: He'll deal with things as they come up, don't mess with him or his... or his hunt... and you'll probably be close enough to alright. His emotions tend to range from approving to apathetic to annoyed and then to calmly intending to kill.

Sexuality- When asked about his sexuality, Wilhelm just stared blankly... unsure?

Politically- While Wilhelm never really had the educational leanings to attach ideology to ideas, he's quite lacking when it comes down to any loyalties to those he hasn't met; however, he does see value in mutual cooperation. Possibly libertine or anarchist, but he doesn't really talk about it much.

Strengths/Skills- Scouting and stealth, hunting and outdoor survival, archery (and the workings behind it) and proficiency in other ranged arms, and he also is a good cook. Has limited anatomical, medical, and supernatural knowledge, as well as above-average acrobatic ability.

Weakness/lacking- He has all the standard human weaknesses, he can't read, and isn't nearly as good at melee combat as he is at ranged.

Equipment- He has his clothes, a knife, a quiver filled with varying types of arrows, a belt that has basic survival stuff in it, and two bows: a short bow, and a strange bow he picked up out east (a recurve bow which is as tall as he is, rather like a Mongolian one).

History- Wilhelm was born in a distant serfdom (he can't remember where, exactly, it was) to two loving parents, and was the oldest of a group of eight children -- he had three younger brothers and four younger sisters. Unfortunately, his serf life would be interrupted by the annual floods one year: While he was preparing, something... happened. He's not sure what, exactly, but Wilhelm remembers that his head hurt and he ended up in saltwater after a while. Happily, he washed up on shore sometime later, and from then on began making a life for himself living off the land, and eventually using his abilities for profit.

How he got to start working for the Dark Lord is a bit of a blur -- Wilhelm was rather drunk, and wasn't sure exactly what deal he made, or with whom, but when he came to... Long story short, he's stuck working here. But it isn't so bad.

At least there isn't any magenta here.

a fine post, if you'd like to work out some background relations with the Dark Lord and how you came in to his/her service I'll gladly PM you some ideas and what not. I'm curious to know how he reacts to general crimes against "Humanity" and the "Good" people, in other words his moral compass really, as you don't exactly state what he thinks of the overall profession in detail.

Thanks, I could probably use some. I doubt the Dark Lord plays poker, after all.

He most certainly would object to pointless overkill, simply because of the waste if nothing else, but he isn't terribly concerned about some good persons dying, as long as there's a point to it. Wilhelm would enjoy his job in a vacuum, but finds some of his peers rather distasteful.

History- Garath Den was a great warrior. No, not a great warrior, but the mightiest of warriors! None from his clan could best him. But for all his strength, he was obsessed with his own mortality. He lived in fear of the great beyond, and searched for any way of making himself immortal.
A blood sacrifice gave him a vision of the dark lord, one who could grant him his desire. So Garath Den set out in relentless pursuit. He fought through every obstacle, braving rain and sun until he reached the Dungeon. And though Garath Den is now unaging, the enchantment came with a terrible price- total enslavement to the dark being.

Personality/Culture- An odd mix of bestial and calculating, savage and rational. Fully obedient to his master, and will obey any commands as long as he is still standing.

Strengths/Skills- Skill with all weapons. Can rip trees out of the ground and tear men apart with his bare hands. Can scale cliffs with shocking speed and his endurance is inhuman. Can track by scent. To mistake Garath Den for a dumb beast would be a woeful error, for he also is adept at strategy at scales large and small. Does not age.

Weakness/lacking- Can still die if he takes damage. Lacks grace. Much heavier than a human. Very difficult to "blend in". Disadvantage when fighting in tight quarters.

Equipment- A six-foot claymore, a large battleaxe, and torches.

What would be something that Wilhelm would be doing? Would the Dark Lord be using him for patrols/recon for example?
