Dungeons and Dragons, where do I begin?

Never played it, but a few of my freinds have and they all say its only as fun as the people you play with.

I do want to play someday, any game where you can drop your pants and dance around at nearly any point in time sounds like the game for me

It is also possible to find PDFs of the books if one of you has a laptop. Also I would suggest playing something like Neverwinter Nights 2 just to get an idea about attacks of opportunity, combat casting, hiding in shadows and so on.
