***UPDATE: SEE POST BELOW. SNES isn't functioning properly. Could use some assistance.***

Yesterday this arrived in the mail: 1 SNES, 2 Controllers, 4 Games: Super Mario World, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Shadowrun and Street Fighter II. The console had been in storage in my parents rec room since the late 90's.

The SNES was never really 'my' console. I was a Genesis fanboy through and through, it was my brother who loved the SNES. This resulted in me having played only a very limited number of SNES titles.

I'd like to pick up some of the better games for the system - genre is irrelevant. I know there are several excellent RPGs (Chrono Trigger & Earthbound) out there, but they are difficult and expensive to acquire. What might be some other games I could start with that are more common/less expensive, yet still of high quality?

Thanks!

Secret of Evermore,
Super Metroid,
Super Mario RPG,
Mystic Quest,
Final Fantasy II & III,
Kirby Super Star,
Megaman X, X2, and X3
Are all very good ones to look into, although I don't know myself how difficult it would be to get your hands on any of them.

FF6 times a billion. And you already got Street Fighter. Only 2 games you'll ever ever need.

Super Metroid.
F-Zero.
Donkey Kong Country.
Star Fox.

they all should be pretty easy to find(except for maybe Super Metroid).
But all are excellent games.
And i would also suggest Marvel Super Heroes.
An excellent Marvel fighting game made by Capcom.

definitely seconding super metroid and donkey kong country, although i think you might be surprised as to how much some of these games can go for nowadays.

also if you can get UN Squadron for relatively cheap ive always had a great time playing that one.

Thanks for the input.

Can anyone recommend a good place to find used SNES games? I usually look to Half.com/Ebay or Amazon used.

Had a bit of bad luck last night. Hooked the SNES up to the TV and it doesn't work. Powers up, games will start their load screens/music, but the video is all &*%^ed up. Is it worth it to try and take it apart and fix it?

:'(

I don't know about its availability but Sunset Riders is great (but ridiculously hard). Some say it's "Contra in the wild west". The label fits. I also suggest the Megaman X games. Final Fantasy IV (the best one) and Final Fantasy VI are great too; although, I think their numbering is different for the American versions. I think IV is II and VI is III or something like that. Kudos for keeping the old games alive.

Good timing on making this topic, I just dusted off my SNES earlier this afternoon as well and hooked that up to my 32" HD TV. The only problems are one broken controller and a slightly faulty D-Pad on the other, but other than that it works alright.

As for games, I recommend:
Strike Gunner S.T.G.
Super SWIV (a.k.a. Firepower 2000 in some countries)
Super Mario Kart
Starfox
Super Mario All-Stars
Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3
Bubsy 1/2
Earthworm Jim 1/2
Super Punch Out!!
<url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike_series>Desert Strike, Jungle Strike and Urban Strike. The next three in the series are on different consoles and I haven't played them beyond Urban Strike, but give them a look anyway.

I have played all of the above games and I personally highly recommend them. Good luck getting your SNES working again, Tobin. :^)

Damn man you're luckly, I have vivid and fond memories of playing Link to the Past. Fuck that game was damn awesome! The only game you NEED is Chrono Trigger, it is absolutely one of the best games possible to own, period.

Kirby Super Star. I can play that game fifty times and never get tired of it.
This. One-hundred times this.

Super Mario RPG is also a great one, but it may be tricky to find these days.

All the games I would've suggested have already been suggested. So yeah. I will suggest the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers game (and the movie version) because they're fun beat-em ups. So is TMNT: Turtles in Time.

Oh, and the Tick game. It's also a beat'em up. Fun stuff.

Also, Killer Instinct. It's not that great of a fighting game but I had fun in middle school playing it against friends so there's always that I guess.
