Why would they show off

Casca's rape scene

and not some big epic battle?
This is the same publisher that put out DOAX3, and I absolutely would not be surprised if they're trying to court controversy again.
Oh, Jesus, that's all we need. Bouncy boob physics on Casca during battle. Why can't berserk adeptations receive the pedigree they deserve?

I honestly don't want to see Berserk become the center of some controversy. Though, given the nature of the story, I'm somewhat surprised it hasn't garnered more controversy already.
I imagine they won't. They pretty much keep the source material as close as they can. They did with One Piece(a series that does have fan service but wasn't really shown in the games outside of costumes) and Fist of the North Star(a series with no fan service). My guess is this is another MN9 pizza trailer fiasco. And if they do sexulize it in game we can always complain to make it more like the source.

I'm so mixed with this one. Guts is so awesome, and his tendency to go up against large numbers of enemies all at once seems suitable for a dynasty warriors game. However, I'm not really a fan of the Dynasty Warriors franchise. I prefer tension to power fantasy. Regardless, I can't think of a better type of game to put him in. He's a berserker, so mashing square and triangle against a bunch of enemies with little regard for defense seems like the best way to capture the Guts feel. Perhaps I just wasn't meant to play games as Guts.
You could play it on higher difficulty.
In Dynasty Warriors games, doesn't that just mean having to grind longer due to low damage output? I figured the game's real challenge was trying to kill guys fast enough so that you can turn the battle in your favor.

Publisher, not developer.

OT: Well, I was never really into Berserk or Dynasty Warriors (though I have been wanting to try some iteration of the latter just to see what it's like to actually play) and this teaser isn't exactly making me excited for this particular version of either of those things. It's tasteless, tone-deaf, and pathetic.
Do you like Dragon Quest? Or The Legend of Zelda? Or One Piece/Heroic Legend of Arslan/Fist of the North Star/Gundam?

Wow, there are a lot of Warriors spin-offs, now. XD

But if there's one thing I'm concerned about, it's that Dynasty Warrior games are supposed to have massive casts of characters. I can see Guts, the Skull Knight and MAYBE Serpico pulling off Dynasty Warriors roles, but I struggle to think of any other characters that could fill the roll. Maybe the villains, because it would kick twelve kinds of ass to wade into a horde of Kushian soldiers as Zodd the Immortal, but even if we used every major character from the Neo-Band of the Hawk, it'd be a fairly small cast.
I think you have to look at it as every character that has "the Hero's Aura". So Ishidoro is definately going to be in it, maybe with Puck as a sidekick. And Shierke too most likely. They'll probably throw in all the major apostles, Mozgus and his torture disciples, maybe even that one troll general that Ishidoro fought. Then there's Silat, his two bodyguards, Azan, Boscogn, Adon Coborlwitz, Bazuso.

It's basically gonna be Fanservice the Game anyway, so why not throw in everyone you can. I mean Hyrule Warriors had the freaking bug princess from Twilight Princess as a fighter. So yeah, we'll probably be seeing Theresia flipkicking monsters in the face.
you forgot about aborted demon fetus.

I'm liking this confirmation.
I cannot wait to slaughter men, monster, and demon alike with the sweet Dragonslayer.

So excuse me...

TBH, the Dynasty Warriors games are strong sellers in Japan, which is why KT gets these licenses. Unfortunately, I've found their other Warriors-style games (Gundam, FOTNS) to be rather lackluster at best. Like, I suspect the main reason they sell is the combination of the Warriors pedigree and the strength of the licenses.

Also, the last couple of DWs have had jiggly boob physics, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't in this game.

It's x100 worse if you're familiar with the work too. The teaser undermines the gravity, maturity, and mood of the scene. It's a mockery, put simply.
I'd say it's only really bad if you're familiar with the work. I didn't know what it was referencing, so it just looked like the same dumb, baseline pandering the market "demands." I've never seen Berserk, and was mostly curious as to whether the gameplay looked good (of course it didn't show gameplay. Gaming isn't about playing games, it's about ass and tits).

That's really only the case if we limit the discussion to the weird and the disturbing and assume that otakus are representative of wider Japanese society.
But...that's basically what our culture does. It boils things down to the most simplistic terms and assumes that any group is a homogeneous collective.

I used to own a Beserk game on the Dreamcast (don't laugh, twas young and foolish with no tinterwebs!). It seemed ok-ish I guess. If the IP is what truly inspired Dark souls, then a Warriors game is a hell of a downgrade, isn't it? Eh, shouldn't be surprised those games are KT's bread and butter though, fulfilling cheap fantasies with little brain processing required does at least appear consistent. :p

Welp, if that's the case then it sounds more like a parody then an adaptation. I was interested, but it looks like that ship has sailed.

I'd say it's only really bad if you're familiar with the work. I didn't know what it was referencing, so it just looked like the same dumb, baseline pandering the market "demands." And this really grates my nerves for two reasons. The first is that, as Fappy said, the trailer took one of the most sensitive scenes I've ever seen in a work of fiction, and used it to shamelessly promote their game. The scene road the line in the book, but I would argue that Miura managed handle sensitive material pretty well through the strength of his writing. Out of context, however, it doesn't work so well.

The second is that it spoils the biggest plot point in a trailer. The end result is that people who haven't seen the show, or read the book, are going to have a pretty negative view of what Berserk is. Berserk can be somewhat gratuitous at times, but every act of sex and violence in the golden age arc contributes in the narrative. It's not a fanservice driven narrative. That's more then what I can say for something like Game of Thrones. Instead Berserk is incredibly nuanced and intellectual. It alludes to greek tragedy, like Oedipus Rex, or the works of Shakespeare, like Macbeth. It tackles hard philosophical questions. It isn't some cheap action adventure romp with lots of fanservice, and it shouldn't be treated like one. If I had to compare it to a game, I would compare it to something by Fromsoft. Not a jiggly physics battle simulator. I'm worried that this will leave a bad impression, or worse, muster needless controversy.

Speaking of GoT, I'd say the trailer is akin to making the Red Wedding look like a children's birthday party, complete with clowns and balloons.

Musou style games seems to be Japan's 'default' genre when it comes to turning random IPs into videogames. Like how open world with collectibles seems to fly for the West.

Which is kinda unfortunate really. Mashing a billion things to death in open fields is quite boring.

Considering how Koei Tecmo is going more DarkSoulsey with NiOh, couldn't they have tried the same with Berserk? But I suppose it is cheaper and easier to fill a big empty environment with enemies that totter around and attack once every 5 minutes than it is to build a proper game.

That and enemies deal more damage.

But it shows Guts with his Black Swordsman armor and his metal arm. This is post-Golden Age Guts. There's even a screenshot of him firing his arm cannon.

Not that I expect this game will take the story's logic to heart, but still...

Looks like it's going for the whole story, pre and post Eclipse. This raises the question on just how far they're going to go in the storyline.

And they've got an image of Guts first meeting Zodd. Wondering how THAT'S going to play out. You know...moments like this make me wish the license to make a Berserk game went to From Software. Christ, they've basically been making Berserk games since 2009. If they could just slap an official coat of Berserk paint on and make the main character strong enough to be on Guts' level...man that'd be one hell of a game.

Looking forward to doing a Gascogne/Casca coop campaign!

I have very little experience of Berserk other then watching an anime series, and then a remake of that same anime series which wasn't as good, so this game is probably how I'll find out what happens after the Eclipse.

I think the Souls games are as good as this gets -- Games generally do a better job replicating well known stories then they do adapting them. You make a straight-up game adaption of Berserk and I doubt it'd be more than the story beats from the manga with hack 'n slash gameplay strung in between.

There's YT videos that tell you how to do that. But you're right It's usually Namco Bandai and/or Koei Techmo that hold the rights and refuse to give it up.

They could do like the Dreamcast game and have it be it's own story.

Yeah, but then it would play second fiddle to the main plot, like the Dreamcast game. It could possibly lead to a cool story game, but in the back of your mind you'd think 'This is not the main event, this is just some filler specifically for this game.'

Possibly but it could be considered memorable. That first Shaman King game for GBA for example.

Anyways new screenshots: http://m.imgur.com/BhColjD?r

Apparently they also said they're not gonna take out, change or add in new stuff, so high hopes that shit trailer stays just that.

It also looks like it's going to go from Black Swordsman to Falcon of the Millennium.
