I for one am happy about this. I want to see Cortana and Master Chief get back to Earth. Maybe Halo 4 will tie in with the books, and all the Spartans will finally be able to go home.
Could you perhaps enlighten me a bit? I never read the book, would be interested in a bit of knowledge outside of the games, though.

Hmm... I never thought Halo was in any way finished as it's one of Microsoft's biggest franchise. If this new thing has a 4 in it's title it means there will be Master Chief and the Flood. It's about time, 'ODST' was an OK distraction, 'Reach' a terrible game in terms of dramatic pacing.

As much as I like the idea of making more games to explore the world and setting of Halo, I really don't like this. Reach did it right: Halo 3 is really the end, there's not much more you can do with the story after that. Prequels are definitely the way to go; there's like 20 years of the Human-Covenant world to explore, after all. As much as it makes sense for Microsoft to milk this cash cow, there's far, FAR better ways to do this. This isn't just greed, it's crass, stupid storytelling.

You've got to be shitting me... The ending to Halo 3 wasn't much of a cliffhanger, more like a way to get rid of him without killing him off.

I hate it when developers claim to be done with a tired IP only turn around and make anothe-

Bungie is not making this game. When they announced Reach was their last Halo game, they meant it. This is being developed by 343 Industries, a development team Microsoft created specifically to make more Halo games.
...Oh. FFs. Thank god for corporate hive-minds.

Microsoft!! Leave Halo the hell alone! Bungie gave it a ending, don't screw that up.
that was not an ending! you can't "end" a series with "wake me when you need me". c'mon!
You can if the ending's main intent was to get RID of the main character simply so the series would end.

Seventh game in the series.

Seventh.

I don't care what anyone says, Halo Wars counts.
Exactly, I haven't played Halo Wars, but yes it counts I don't think it was a bad as people make it seem
I've played it, and I really liked it. After all, this was Ensemble's last kick at the can. I just had to appreciate that. Not to mention the story was pretty cool too.

I always knew they were bullshitting when they said they were done.
I mean hell. They make too much damn money.

Well, that's what happen to most popular games. People want to get more money, so they make more of the same. Hopefully this won't be a shameless cash-grab, but something cool to look forward to.
Well see, i guess.

Ya know... Halo is absolutely boring to me. The same goes with CoD. There's really no emphasis on teamwork, you go around, pick up a weapon and shoot. The goals will be forever secondary to just going out, killing all attackers with any manner of gun, without anything in regard to strategies for the game.

You can't heal other players, you have a shield that is only stationary, you also get an individual jetpack...

Where's the options to actually have a team game in Halo other than driving people in a Warthog?

It's too early to judge I suppose, but this doesn't sound too good. Remember that other good franchise that had around 4 games and then got tossed to new developers? Oh yes, Silent Hill, one of my favorites. Notice how after Team Silent left they started to suck? I have a feeling that this will be the same with Halo.
Now, I would like to see what happened to Master Chief. He was drifting towards some weird planet or something. Perhaps he'll be stranded with no help to fight off hordes of strange creatures. That actually cool, Master Chief becoming sort of a survival guy.

Actually, yes, you can heal other players. In Reach, they added an armor ability that drops a bubble shield that heals any teammate inside it. There are other examples of using team work, but hey Just saying, not gonna try and convince anyone to like Halo, just thought I'd correct that point of yours.

OT: I dunno about this game. I mean, it could be cool, so I'll give these 343 guys a chance....but they aren't Bungie, the guys who made Halo. Historically, taking a franchise out of the hands of the original creators hasn't gone well. I hope this is an exception, since Halo is one of my favorite franchises, but I'm skeptic. Fingers crossed that it's good, and I will probably be getting it, but no expectations yet.

I'm not really surprised that Microsoft is making another Halo game. Why let that cash cow die? Besides, aren't they pleasing the Halo fanboys?

Can people top 'accidentally' leaking stuff for fraks sake?

Either its a fake leak in which case they have bugger all imagination when it comes to early advertising to generate hype (with bugger all real details).

Or its real in which case people at MS can't count the days on the bloody calendar.
Both of which paint a rather dismal picture really.

Is anybody else getting more skeptical that these are accidental reveals? I mean, this many happening in the last few months...these companies doth protest too much.

Looking at the hype generated, I think a lot of them want to jump on that popularity bandwagon.

Sure. Short version: Master Chief wasn't the only Spartan made, and over the years the rest have all been killed, save for him and a small number. The only one I remember by name is Kelly. Kelly, some other Spartan IIs, a few Spartan IIIs, the Gunnery Sergent that trained them, and the doctor who created Cortana and the Spartans (can't remember her name) are currently trapped in a Shield World built by the Forerrunners. The book is called Ghosts of Onyx, and it ends with them still trapped in the planet, trying to find a way out. I've heard there's going to be another book, but I'd rather see that tie into the video game myself.

Wow......And to think they said they were done with Halo with the release of Reach.

Way to back up your words Bungie.

Seriously......I want to know what happened to the Chief and Cortanna but I was fine with what my imagination was coming up with.

I have a suggestion. If you have a problem with Microsoft milking the Halo series then don't buy Halo 4. Really. It's that simple.

As long as it's good I'll buy it. Mindless fun with a fun universe plus paper thin plot is always welcome.
